Annoying Commercials

Are there TV or radio commercials that you despise?

What say you, GC?

I'll start:

I hate Bounty paper towel commercials, particularly these:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFQVXPdNHzY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpTC9dy9cJk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTBoE1wuln4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdFpIivom1s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTZ_s1qcoks

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

When did it become cute and funny for children to make a mess?

Since when do parents clean up after children who are fully capable of cleaning up after themselves?

Since when do people chuckle and say "life is full of tests?"

Since when does someone get to bring in a messy dog and chuckle as the other person cleans up after the dog?

Ugh I hate these damn commercials.

Xidelt 03-24-2014 06:26 PM

Those commercials with the damn Charmin bears. I'm glad you enjoy taking a dump and wiping. I don't need to see the look of bliss on your face as you wipe. It's toilet paper, not sex.

LXA SE285 03-24-2014 06:33 PM

The Esurance commercial with "Beatrice" tries way too hard.

DrPhil 03-24-2014 06:33 PM

Do the Charmin bears have coprophilia? Not to be confused with coprophagia.

------

LOL. I like the first Esurance Beatrice commercial. Beatrice is probably how my parents would sound if you talked to them about social media.

"That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works."

------
Annoying Progressive commercial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJjVoOt4F8w

I don't get the joke.

Annoying Discover Card commercial with the twin sisters:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi7VHr_S_MQ

UofISigKap 03-24-2014 06:51 PM

This is dumb, but I can't stand the end of the Papa John's commercial, when he nods/twitches his head as he says the tag line, "Better pizza, better ingredients, Papa John's." I get it's for emphasis, but it drives me crazy!!

Lovethesand 03-24-2014 07:06 PM

Any of the Sonic Drive-In commercials with the two guys.

Swerve: I do like the Lowe's commercial where the guy places the last bathtub tile and then they slowly start to fall down. The look on his face is priceless. My husband said if it was him he'd walk away, close the door, and never enter again.

Some earlier commercials with them were actually pretty funny. Recently, though, they've become really annoying, and they lack any kind of humor.

OMG, these make me crazy, too. Other "poop" related commercials I hate:

- The Clorox bleach commercials, especially the one where two dads are talking in the park and the 4-year old kid sh_ts himself. I don't care how young the kids are, it's gross.

- The Luvs diaper commercial with the kids bearing down to fill their diapers.

And more that drive me crazy...

- The Geico pig - just grates on my nerves.

- The Progressive lady - enough already, she's annoying.

- Kay Jewelers "open heart jewelry" - they are so ugly!!

- JG Wentworth - "It's my money and I want it now" - ALL of the commercials, especially the one with the opera singers

- Disney commercial with the grandfather interrupting the kid's play by singing a song from the "Lion King" - not funny.

- Eharmony commercial with the "granddaughter" with the fake speech impediment. If she really had it, she should/would have pronounced the "r" in the word "teacher" incorrectly as well. She's really annoying.

- The Lumosity. com commercial with the woman with short hair - she just bugs the hell out of me.

- The "Cotton" commercial with actress Hayden Panettiere - she comes across like a poseur trying to be "country".

I read somewhere that's she's the highest paid commercial "star" on television.

Now I have that song in my head... "Call JG Wentworth.. 877 cash now!" Ugh, so dumb.

It really makes me sad that there are people who actually make a decent living coming up with these horrible ideas...

LXA SE285 03-24-2014 08:14 PM

All the ones for dating sites: eHarmony, Christian Mingle, Farmers Only, Our Time ...

I think the Geico pig is CREEPY!!!! And irritating to boot.

I want to slap the eHarmony kid back to last week - as well as the founder guy who is in it with her for thinking that ridiculously dumb commercial is a good sell for the company.

DrPhil 03-24-2014 08:51 PM

The annoying black and white commercial with the kid voice over saying something like "there are mammals in the ocean...but we still" and on and on and on. At the end the kid says something like "doesn't stop us from being...GOOD."

What the hell?

LXA SE285 03-24-2014 09:03 PM

Ooh, here's another one: The HOPPAH.

Sciencewoman 03-24-2014 11:12 PM

I am also sick of the Sonic commercials with the two guys. They're on all the time, and I've never even seen a Sonic around here.

I grew up in New England, surrounded by friends and family with this accent, and these commercials even drive ME crazy. They're pretty annoying.

That would frustrate me to no end in NH - commercials would be on ALL THE TIME, but there were none around! I think they opened some in MA a few years ago, though.

And now I live in TX where I can get some tots anytime I want :D

33girl 03-25-2014 01:28 AM

The open heart jewelry looks like a pair of nads.

Speaking of genitalia, any of the lawyer commercials that mention transvaginal mesh! Bleah!

GammaGirl1908 03-25-2014 01:35 AM

I HAAAAAAAAATE the sound of chewing, smacking, gulping, slurping, sucking, swallowing, crunching, et cetera. I have dumped perfectly nice men for chewing too loud. I have moved offices to get away from a loud gum-chewer.

So, any commercial with audible eating noises is tied for my least favorite.

The Kit Kat commercials with people crunching and smacking to the beat of the Kit Kat jingle seriously enrage me so much I have to change the channel.

There also are an INORDINATE number of cereal commercials that involve smacking and crunching. Gaaaaaaaahhh!!!!!! We get it! It's a commercial for food! MUST the soundtrack consist of noises we spend YEARS training our children not to make?!

I've heard more than a few people say the open hearts look like nothing so much as two butts nestled together. This, of course, means that any time I see that commercial, all I hear is, "If you keep your butt open, love will find its way in."

Good times.

Sister Havana 03-25-2014 01:45 AM

Oooh boy, do I have a lot of these. I'll add in votes for the Geico pig commercials, the EHarmony commercials (the founder gives me the creeps for some reason), Charmin bears, and Kay Jewelers - in fact, I'll expand that to all jewelry commercials.

Also:
  • All Viagra/Cialis/Levitra commercials - and all "male enhancement" commercials
  • ASPCA commercials. I have to change the channel every time one comes on. They upset me.
  • All lawyer commercials. "Has anything bad ever happened to you or anyone you know? YOU ARE ENTITLED TO BIG MONEY."
  • The Michael Bolton Honda commercials that ran this past Christmas. PLEASE DO NOT BRING HIM BACK.
  • Victoria's Secret commercials
  • Non-24 commercials. These are mostly on the radio. "You can't see me because I'm on the radio, and I can't see you because I'm totally blind." So if you weren't blind, you would be able to see me through the radio? There's also a newer one that starts "Here's something you don't hear on the radio very often - someone who can't see." Apparently I missed the memo that Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles songs were no longer being played on the radio.
  • Party City commercials with jingles to the tune of "Mambo Number 5."
  • T-Mobile commercial about breaking contracts sung to the tune of "Forget You" by Cee-Lo Green.

Oooooh, I forgot about those depressing nightmares. HAAAAAAAAATE. Virulent hate!

Please note, I like animals very much. I essentially adopted my cat off the streets, and he is here in my house even as I type, living a very cushy life. I have done my part. I will not feel guilty, and hearing Sarah McLachlan caterwauling behind shots of sick animals won't change that. Ugh.

33girl 03-25-2014 01:56 AM

The ASPCA and Humane Society commercials have gone from upsetting to enraging me. I bet that 90% of people do as SH and I do and immediately change the channel, which means that it's basically money down the toilet - money that could have gone to actually help animals. This is why they will never get a cent of my money and I will always keep my donations to local shelters. Betty White did lovely ads for them back in the day that were her in her living room with one of her rescued pets - I bet they got a lot more $ from that approach than from the emotional blackmail they practice now.

ASTalumna06 03-25-2014 02:19 AM

Oh, how could I forget…

The old, creepy, bald dancing guy in the Six Flags commercials! Are those even still on anymore?

Exactly. My significant other makes me change the channel when those commercials come on, or he leaves the room.

The thing about hurt, helpless animals is that most people don't have to see those animals to feel compassion and want to help. Some people are actually more inclined to assist an animal before they'd help another person!

They really don't have to show sad animals with depressing music playing in the background.

Damn Sarah McLachlan!

Yep -- it's the animal equivalent of Sally Struthers and the Christian Children's Fund.

33girl 03-25-2014 11:38 AM

All I can think of now with Sally Struthers is South Park. Lol

For everyone who hates Maxwell the Geico pig, all I will say to you is this:

Boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants and boots and pants...

I'll agree with everything in this whole thread - especially that Geico pig! I hate the white hairs all over his body, they gross me out. The male enhancement commercials are gross - especially the "significant looks" exchanged between the man and the woman. Ew. And I've told my husband if he ever buys me any of that cheap-ass Kay "open hearts" garbage, it's going right back to the store.

I change the channel at ASPCA commercials too, I can't take them. And I do donate about $1k/year to local animal shelters, but not the ASPCA.

Some others I can't stand - the Mrbetriq commercial with the animated bladder hand in hand with its owner, and any "don't reuse old catheters" commercials. For some reason, these always air when I'm eating and I have to change the channel. I don't want to think about bladders and catheters during dinner.

The first time I saw this, I was all "Why is one of the talking M&M's in a commercial about incontinence meds?"

1-877-Kars-4-Kids

There is a Radio commercial in the DC area (National?) that starts out with children singing 1-877-Kars4Kids that I will change stations to *anything* (Country Music, Gospel, 700 club, hard rap) as soon as I hear the first 2 musical bars of the commercial come on. The only reason that I know its a K in Kars is because while grocery shopping, I heard the entire commercial in a location where I couldn't get it changed...

WhiteRose1912 03-25-2014 04:51 PM

The pig commercials are annoying but the only ones that truly enraged me were the old sexist Axe commercials. This one seems to be the one that killed them off.

That happened in our area, too, before Sonic arrived. Advance marketing must work for that company.

This may be regional but I hate the Haverty's commercials with the woman obsessed with her chair. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Havertys

The others that bother me is any commercial for a drug like this one for abilify with the huge list of possible side effects?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGymr78FtbU
I'm sure this drug helps some people, but I am not sure that advertising like this will help people get help that need it???:confused::confused:

UGGGGGH! That one is on ALL THE TIME on the radio in Chicago too. That is an instant station-changer for me too.

AOIILisa's comment about the animated bladders reminded me of another one I hate - the Mucinex commercials with the animated boogers. ICK.

Haribo Gold Bears commercials suck.

I'm glad they stopped highlighting the Black girl's stereotypical "soul sista" voice.

There's a certain threshold for buying media in which it makes more sense from an efficiency standpoint to just buy spots nationally instead of buying spots in the markets where you have stores. We did that exercise with one of my clients and we actually went the other way with the buy (they were buying their TV nationally and even though they were sold nationally, it made sense to just go after 30+ big markets that they identified as key sales markets).

/swerve, back to annoying ads

MSKKG 03-27-2014 11:26 AM

Agree with so many of these. If I hear the Toaster Strudel boy pronounce "gooey" "go-ee" instead of "goo-ee" one more time, I will scream!
