What's a strike?
|
I'm guessing that a strike is a disciplinary action taken by the University when a student violates Code of Conduct or gets a Minor In Possession Citation, for example. And if I'm correct, that would make you a risk management concern. That is the one issue that would harm you, IN MY OPINION.
High school grades no longer count when you attend college. The college GPA is what is considered. Hopefully you have volunteer activities that aren't involuntary and you've involved yourself in other campus groups. And from what you've written, it sounds like you might already have your opinions about certain groups, which is unfortunate for you. As an out of state sophomore at Ole Miss, you need to be open to every single group. Period. There are enough threads on GC about Ole Miss that state that fact and many others. Go into recruitment with the knowledge that yes, you may well get released from every single group. OTOH, you may well have a happy ending IF YOU KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Membership is for a lifetime. |
OP PM'ed and asked me to delete the QFP.

Why don't you know anyone in sororities? You have been at Ole Miss since August. You have a few months left before summer. Start making connections now, without being a stalker.

I am completely out of my UT lane, but the mention of a strike peaked my interest. I looked at Ole Miss website and found this:

Well, here's the good news: nobody is gonna care about your high school GPA once you have an established college GPA.

2. PLEASE don't use the term GDI any more. It is impolite, IMHO. 3. Last I heard, there are no upperclass quotas at Ole Miss. |

Good luck, OP. You are going to need it.

I do not think the university usually put disciplinary issues on a transcript, possibly a FERPA violation. If she was caught doing something like drinking in the dorm, the only people who may know are the RA who was involved and j-board members who are not allowed to discuss proceedings, so the infraction may or may not be common knowledge.

You will never know unless you try formal recruitment this fall. And I think the advice given here is very good...your college GPA at Ole Miss will count more than your high school grades.
My main concern is that you don't know very many sorority women. Are there women on your dorm floor that are new members? If so, you need to introduce yourself to them and express your interest in rushing next fall. Most importantly, you need to keep your reputation clean the rest of this year and next fall before recruitment. No getting wasted in bars or at frat houses. I would also recommend going to fraternity and sorority philanthropy events that are open to everyone this spring. Or participating in campus-wide service projects, because I bet there are lots of sorority women participating in them as well. Good luck and keep us posted! |
Heed the above, and let me add 2 more cents. You do NOT need to vomit out your life history when meeting sorority women, whether in real life or during rush. Don't ever lie, but you don't need to volunteer negative information.
Go through rush, and be open to every chapter. I don't think Ole Miss has a THAT chapter, but I'm sure there are chapters that some girls would prefer to not pledge, even over not being Greek at all. Don't be that girl. Any opportunity is a gift. |
You may also want to alter some of your info in previous post. You have given too much personal information and most of the chapters will know who you are. Also, private message the poster who quoted your entire thread and ask her to alter it as well.
Good luck in recruitment! |
