rush in 4 days!
hey guys! im rushing in 4 DAYS and i am SOOO nervous! i'm planning on posting my rush stories in here though, because i know how much fun they are to read!;) the sororities at the school i'm attending (i won't tell what it is until after rush ends...) are:
alpha delta pi alpha phi gamma phi beta kappa kappa gamma kappa alpha theta it's a pretty small school and i am a sophomore transferring in (this will be my first semester), so i am especially nervous!:o i think it's good in a way though - i have no preconceptions of any of the sororities and will be able to go through the process with a completely open mind, which will hopefully lead me to the house that i'm best suited to... i'm so excited though, i cant wait!! well, i'll post later but i have to sleep now, i have a big day of shopping for rush outfits ahead of me tomorrow! bye ladies! (and boys too) xoxo |
Sadly you don't have my chapter on your campus, but you do have my chapter's sister sorority, Kappa! Good luck!
|
Best of luck to you during Rush!! I hope you have a wonderful experience. I can't wait to hear how things go for you. Take Care. Sincerely, Martha
Kappa Kappa Gamma :) |
have a blast
follow your heart and have fun.
and keep us in the loop. we're here for you. mmcat :p |
Ooooh! How exciting! Your campus seems a bit like mine (only a couple sororities & small), so their recruitment programs will be very competitive! This is great for you, IMHO, because you are a transfer student! Everyone is going to want to snap you up! :)
I wish you all the best! This is a terrific way to meet the women on your campus, and you are going to do great! We'll be anxiously awaiting your play-by-play (or party-by-party) accounts of your experience! Once again, GOOD LUCK!!! :D |
Have a great time durring rush!! I wish you the best of luck! Let us know how everything goes!
Nichole |
Good luck
Have a ball...
Meet everyone and keep an open mind. lol mmcat :) |
Your school sounds like mine - only 5 sororities. Makes it a lot easier to keep all your options straight in your head. :)
Good luck, and keep us posted! :) |
Good Luck! I can't wait to hear how everything goes.... keep us posted throughout rush if you can! :D
|
Have fun and good luck.

I know you are excited! I wish I could re-live my rush... you will make so many lasting friendships and meet a lot of wonderful people. Relax and have fun, and tell us how things go!

Hey guys! thank you all SO much for all your support! it really means a lot to me and i'm sure it will help tremendously during the process! soooo... i went shopping today and i got my pref dress, and one outfit (i loathe shopping for long periods of time...). i already have another outfit im going to wear for the first night...anyway, my rush schedule is as follows:
day 1: panhellenic open house from 7:00-8:30 pm (i have NO clue what to expect from this? anyone have any ideas? i think the pnms have been divided into 2 groups for this, and they go to the parties at different times?) day 2: skit day attend all 5 parties day 3: philanthropy day attend max. of 3 parties day 4: pref night attend max. of 2 parties day 5: bid day!! ah im so nervous! but i heard its not too competitive, so thats good... i'd probably be having a nervous breakdown if this were lsu or something... haha. anyway, thank you again for all your wonderful support! i PROMISE to update you every day and keep it as exciting as possible! k well i'm going to bed, talk to you later!! xoxo |
its sounds like you're having a blast, but i have to ask you this...does your name come from the song by the Big Bopper?
|
hahaha yes Optimist Prime!!! my dad used to sing it to me all the time when i was a little girl and for some reason it was stuck in my head when i was thinking of a name! xoxo

SOUTHERN THETA RULES!
hey guys i just read that thread that southern theta started concerning her advice to new rushees! it was so helpful and made me feel a lot better! thanks to everyone who contributed to that! YOU RULE!xoxo
|
Good Luck! Just remember to keep an open mind, you may find out that the house for you isn't one you thought of before you went through rush! Remember to smile and don't get stressed out. It will all work out for the best!
:D Jess |
Hey there, I just wanted to wish you good luck! Have fun and keep us updated :)
|
chantillylace55,
It is going to be a wonderful experience for you! I can almost guarantee you that you will be nervous, but I can also almost guarantee you that the girls in the different sororities are going to be nervous themselves! It is a lot of fun, but there is nervousness on both sides. Don't let that keep you from finding the right "home" for you! Go with who you feel most comfortable with. It will all be just fine! Good luck and have tons of fun! Don't forget to keep us posted!!! :D |
Best of luck! And don't worry about not being a freshman - I was a junior when I rushed. I felt (and was) a lot older than than everyone else, but it was still SO much fun, and in the end, age made no difference.
Have fun and let us know how it goes when that time comes! "Peachy!" |
GOOD LUCK!!! I am so glad its recruitment time again, so we can hear all of your awesome stories! Remember to give us as many details as you can recall and follow your heart. Go wherever makes you the happiest and where you feel the most at home. I cannot wait to hear everything
|
Good luck!!!! We're behind you here!
|
hey again ladies! it's in 2 DAYS now! im so nervous! well, i'm nervous about rush AND i'm nervous because i'm starting a new school where i don't know ANYBODY! but hopefully rush will help eliminate that problem ;) thank you thank you thank you all sooo much for your support and enthusiasm! you guys are all so great!
also, does anyone know what that first night / panhellenic open house will entail? do you think it will be just like a lecture, or will we get to walk around and maybe see booths the sororities have set up? just wondering...:) alright, well unfortuneately i dont have anything else exciting to report right now! i move in on wed, and i promise ill get my computer up asap on wed. to keep you all updated! bye girls! xoxo |
My campus' Panhellenic night was pretty easy and laid back.
The Rho Chis did skits about what rush was like and lots of the usual questions were answered (ie. what is COB, what is a legacy, ect.) They also had a question and answer session then the pnms broke up into their rho chi groups and then there was a little social for just the pnm's, the rho chis, and the panhellenic staff. we just had punch and cookies. |
Good Luck!!!!
ChantillyLace55-
I am sure you will do great and end up in the sorority right for you. We are all crossing our fingers for you sweetie!! PS- Alpha Delta Pi is a great Org.!!!:D ;) :p -Ryan |
Good luck girly!!! Definitely listen to everyone's advice on here as it helped me out a lot last fall. I don't know what I would have done without Greek Chat. Especially the moderators, they're awesome! :D Just keep smiling (genuinely), and be sure to ask lots of questions about philanthropy, sisterhood events, leadership opportunities, intermural sports, etc, and you'll wow them all! Also ask questions about the person/people who are rushing you such as "how did you know that (XYZ) was right for you?" (make sure you use the right intonation and smile, though, or it will sound as if you're being sarcastic--and try not to make it sound rehearsed). Other questions you might ask could be "how does (ABC) get involved on campus?", or "Your sisters seem to have really close bonds, don't you think?"
Some big no-nos I have read on other posts here: ---don't mention/ask ANYTHING about fraternities, or even guys in general; sororities want to know that you are interested in FEMALE bonding. :) ---if you smoke, drink, or have any other bad habits do NOT mention these. ---DON'T BRAG about money, clothes, your car, your apartment or anything as it may seem as if you think you're guaranteed membership because of your money, or you only want to be in it because you like the house they have ---if you're a legacy, be sure to mention it, but don't brag about it the whole time ---if you don't like a particular sorority, DON'T BE RUDE! Just politely listen to what they have to say. ---don't suicide; if you get a bid from someone you don't like, you can always refuse it and rush again next year. You may end up liking the people you hadn't considered anyhow. ---make sure you go to the bathroom before each visit, so you don't have to ask to go later, as it may seem you're not interested in them. One more thing (for now): try to remember at the name of at least ONE sister from each sorority, and one thing about them so if you're invited back you can let them know you're interested by saying her name, etc. Example: I remembered there was a girl named Sara, and that she had talked about how her cat weighed 21 pounds. So the next night I said, "You're the girl with the big cat aren't you?" and we both had something to laugh about. We're now sisters. :) Best of luck!!! Please keep us all updated! E-mail me if you'd like! :) jessica83fl@yahoo.com |
Jessica! (ZetaLuvBunny)
thank you so much for your post - it was very helpful and i genuinely appreciate the time you put into writing it. your post was exactly what i needed to hear right now! im just worried about talking to the girls... i'm not an extremely shy person, but i'm not one of those in-your-face-outgoing types. i just don't want to be stuck there with some awkward silence and feel stupid. but your post really helped me with ideas about things to bring up! i'll keep them in mind so i dont get nervous and blank out during the parties - those are all great questions to ask! i love the idea about remembering the girls' names! i think i may bring around a paper or something and write it down along with my thoughts after each party, because i am usually terrible with names! i just want to thank you all again from th bottom of my heart for all your advice and support! i really feel that i have met some of the greatest girls on gc and it makes me want to go greek even more - especially if there are girls like y'all out there :D haha i am opening up to you guys more than i am with some of my friends! this is rad! byebye for now girls! xoxo |

Glad to have helped! :) No problem! Everyone on Greek Chat helped me out so much in the fall, so I thought I'd return the favor by helping others! :) I forgot the most important thing, however: BE YOURSELF ! :)
You will undoubtably end up in the right place for YOU, where you feel genuine sisterhood. Don't listen to any rumors about a certain sorority being labeled as "popular", "rich", "slutty", or "dorky"; judge for yourself. Some people say that they just "know" which one is right for them after the 2nd or 3rd (sometimes even 1st) night, but sometimes you may not "know" until you've been in the sorority for a couple of weeks. If you recieve a bid from a sorority you didn't like very much, give it a try for a while anyway, and get to know the girls better before deciding whether or not to stick with it. Also remember that if you decline a bid, you won't be eligible to rush for any NPC sorority again for an entire year. I would mention something GOOD about one of the sororities you've listed as being at your school because I know a few great ladies in it, but as you said it's better to go in with an unbiased mindset. :) I'm sure all of those sororities are wonderful! Have an awesome time, and if you get nervous keep thinking how nervous the sisters must be, wondering if a girl as great as you wants to join their sisterhood! :) |
Just wanted to offer my support as well! ZetaLuvBunny has put all the best advice in a nut shell! GOOD LUCK!
|
Great advice, Jessica!!!

hey ladies!
i am soo sorry i havent written in so long, but i have been unable to hook up my internet so im on my roommates computer right now.... well the first night was a lot of fun! i was really nervous at first and i didnt really know what to expect, but it turned out to be a blast. there was a big room with a ton of tables in it and when you walked in you had to find the table you were assigned to. at your table there were already 5 actives sitting there (each from one sorority, but you weren't allowed to know which sorority) and you had to sit between them. then during the night we colored bookmarks and talked to the actives at our tables, they rotated around the table each time a girl would say "rotate" over the microphone. i had a lot of fun and i felt that i really clicked well with the majority of the girls (there was only one who i didnt really enjoy talking to, but we still talked the entire time). this event made me feel a lot better about rushing and i felt a lot less nervous than i had been i was actually really suprised at how casual the event was. i wore black pants and a white button up shirt that was collected (kind of) in the front and it was tight around the elbows (it sounds weird but i swear it was cute)... but there were actually A LOT |
oops i messed up
house two: these girls were awesome! the girl that rushed me first was SO sweet i loved her... and she made it a point to let me know that she had read about me (i.e. brining up activites i did in high school and asking me about transferring) i really liked it here! i felt comfortable and met SO many girls! and one of the girls who was at my table the night before came and talked to me a lot and everyone told me that they had heard good things about me, so i was just really happy there. i felt that i really connected with every girl i talked to! house three: these girls had a really cute theme and skit and i REALLY clicked with one of the girls! there was only one girl who i felt sightly uncomfortable talking to, but she was still really really nice and smiled a ton! i enjoyed this house and would like to come back! i have heard this house is pretty elite though, so i doubt my chances of getting in there are high.... house four: the girls i talked to here also were awesome and i really clicked with them, but i felt like i still really didnt fit in.. i dont know why? anyway they were really sweet girls! house five: the girls i talked to here were very friendly and bubbly but it was kind of slow and i felt like i had to keep thinking of things to say to prevent the convo from stopping. but i still enjoyed it a lot and they were sooo cute. there was one thing that struck me as strange though.. i asked several girls what they loved most about xyz and they all said "it has such a strong national reputation! you can network all over the place!"... although this is a definate perk of being a very strong national sorority,i would have much rather heard them say something about their chapter, such as sisterhood or events they participate in... i dont know.. i just thought it was weird..hmm so ya that was my first day... it was fun, but i am soooo tired now! talking takes a lot out of you!! the rushees dressed up a lot more today, although there were still some in jeans, most wore pants or skirts... we have to pick up out invites tomorrow at 9am and the parties start at 12 so i will definately write tomorrow after i pick up my invites! k talk to you guys later and thanks for the support! byebye! xoxoxo **sorry i took out the sorority names im just afraid someone from my school might see this and i dont want to hurt any feelings!** |
HI there!!
Glad to know you had a great time during deferred Panhellenic rush night. I just graduated from Cal Poly-SLO and LOVED my years as a THETA there. I am dying to know which California school you are rushing. I've been to almost all the Theta chapters in CA, and LOVE THEM all!!! Good luck and keep us posted! |
Sounds like you are doing great so far! Good luck and keep us posted!
|
Sounds awesome! I can't believe those girls who were wearing JEANS! I guess rush is a lot different in Cali, but that's a major no-no in Southern Rush! Even the first day it's minimum khakis or nice pants down here.
