Love is in the air...or NOT???
It's almost that time ya'll. The BIG day, Valentine's Day.
What do you want? What will you purchase? Single SFs, will you honor/pamper YOU? (you should) I read in Honey magazine  that SFs should get together more on that day for dinner, dancing, etc. and FORGET about the opposite sex. A girls ONLY kind of thing. That's a great idea. Actually, I'll still be recuperating (out of town;)) from my Mardi Gras (2 days prior) hang over! :p |
What I'll Be Doing...
I do not have a man in my life right now (hey--maybe I will by Valentine's Day though ;)), so I am going to do something I have never done before but I know I deserve: pamper myself!! I'm going to give myself flowers and candy. One year a bunch of my single friends (guys and girls) got all dressed up and went out to dinner at a NICE restaraunt and had a bunch of fun. But many of those people are no longer single so I think I'm going to attempt to coordinate an all-girls thing this year. I have learned that in order for God to bring me the right man (or take me to him), I must learn to first love myself and get to a place (or at least begin the journey) to where I want to be spiritually, academically, emotionally, etc. etc. I know (NOW) that I don't need a man on my arm to validate my existence!!
I also want to do something nice for my Mom (who is also single), b/c she doesn't think I appreciate her sometimes :o. I think I may take her out to dinner instead (or also)--my treat of course, just the two of us. That would be fun!! :D Hey, 2D, I read that article in "Honey" also--that's where I got my ideas from--you know what they say: "Great minds think alike!" Also, I hope you had fun at Mardi Gras (I really want to go one year!!!)... |
DEFINITELY no love in the air right now, but I signed up for a personal trainer at the gym today.
On Valentine's day I would like to have gone down one dress size (ok, no I'm not fat but I have all these nice expensive ass clothes in my closet that are a size freakin six) so I can wear this GORGEOUS little blue dress my cousin gave me freshman year. I am going to get a mani/pedi AND my eyebrows done and go out solo if need be and have a great dinner and feel happy about being me and congratulate myself on the good things I've done this year (i.e. finding employment that doesn't make me gnash my teeth and wail in despair). |

Well, for me, love is definitely in the air. I actually love the month of February. I have my anniversary, b-day, and V-day all within a few days of each other. Needless to say, I will be lavished with gifts.
I don't know what me and my sweetie will be doing this year. I'm not really one to make a big deal out of Valentine's becuase before my man, I never really had a Valentine :(. Hopefully he'll suprprise me with something really sweet and sincere and I'll turn into a big pile of mush. |
well love is in the air for me, just not in the way that requires a man on my arm. I have the love of God residing on the inside of me and friends to hold me accountable until the day I say I do. During the MONTH of February I will be attend a True Love Waits program every Tuesday. On March 2 we will have a ring ceremony and banquet commemorating the event. It's a semi-formal event so I'm waiting patiently. Oh yeah, the theme is Love is Patient. My friends and I will have a woman's fellowship on the 14th talking about everything but MEN.

My Angry Black Man Phase
Frat, Sorors and Friends,
You do not need the VDAY to have your signifigant other express thier love for you! But to keep in good spirit I give Valentines love to all people on GC! You don't need a man or a woman to be happy all you need is GOD and Soul Food on Wensday night! LOL Sphinxpoet |
I don't know what my honeyhttp://www.plaudersmilies.de/knuddel.gif has planned for me this year for V-Day. :D God does have someone out there for everyone. HE just wants to prepare us to be able to handle the best that HE has made for us. :)
However, around this time in 2000, it was just me and my cat Mojo. :( so my single friends and I would throw a party together.http://www.plaudersmilies.de/partytime.gif It was called "AIN'T NO LOVE (insert year)" and any single person was invited. We started doing this in 1996 and the goal every year was NOT TO GET INVITED! We would decorate, buy a cake, and food. We would crank the music up, dance, exchange gifts with one another, and just revel in the fact that yes we are single and that's ok! We would even make fake "membership cards" for everyone that attended. Although, I have not been a "card carrying member" for 2 years straight :-) I am glad that I had plenty of fun instead of spending V-day depressed. |
Well love is not in the air for me, but I am fine with that I am still pretty young and still like to fly free. To all of the single SF's here is something to think about. It is better to be alone than to be lonely with someone else... For V-day I am going to lavish me, me, me!! I bought a bottle of Cristal and my friends and I are going to this French restaurant before we go dancing. :D
|
Well, I have never really been into V-day. I told my dude when we first first got together that V-day needed to be everyday, shoot. I need to know all year long that you love me and you need to show me in special ways throughout the year!!! Now, the first year, he ignored me, and it was almost a disaster: I hated the restaurant we went to, he told me he didn't like my shoes (don't mess with my shoes), it was almost a mess. We haven't done anything for V-day since. BUT, this year, we are going to stay in, have a candlelit spaghetti dinner (that he will cook, cuz his spaghetti is the BOMB!!), and just hang out.
For single sorors and SF's, V-day is a good day for a Pamper <insert name here> Day!!! Go to the spa, or turn your living room into one!!! :) Invite other single girls over, and just have fun!! Or chill WITH yourself and have fun! |
Happy Valentine's Day
I would like to wish all of the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha and SFs a Happy Valentines Day. Especially all of you who don't have one to wish it to you.

Love is in the air
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!! Remember everyone has a Valentine. You are your best Valentine!! If you don't have anyone special, take this time to pamper yourself and renew your spirit. To those of us with significant others, spouses etc, take this time to really appreciate what you have and enjoy this day. If you have hit a rocky road before this point take this time to renew your commitment to the relationship.
Right now I am waiting patiently as MY VALENTINE cooks me dinner. I feel so blessed. Big Hugs everyone!!! |

This is the first time in the last two years that I will have a man to celebrate Valentine's day. Unfortunately, we have been feuding in a fierce way that may lead to us not even wanting to celebrate our love for each other on VDAY. I had intentions of going all out for him since he did a very good job for Christmas and my birthday (which was back to back gifts, Dec and Jan) but with his attitude, the brother may gets nothin' at all!

I love Valentines Day. Im a newlywed and being married is such a good feeling. My husband and I go out of our way to make each other feel good. We splurge on gifts and say nice things to each other all day. We do those things all year round but V day is our time to really go overboard. When you guys get married youll see what I mean :D

VALENTINE'S DAY SUCKS!!!  :(
Can you tell that I'm single? :D |

It's so wierd to read my response from last year.
I'm still single. But I think I'll try to go out with my homies on V-day. I don't want to sit at home and brood about how men make me bitter bitter bitter, lol. And besides, my Mommy is always my Valentine, regardless of who is in my life. I'll buy her some flowers. |

Now as for me, I'm very single and I don't know what to give myself. I always treat myself every day. :) |
Love is in the air...or NOT???
Or NOT! There's a whole lotta like in the air.... but, alas, no love. |
Valentine's Day is just February 14th. Another day. There are 364 more just like it. I am not going to do anything special, but I might go out and revel since it is a Friday. ;)

Some Valentine's Day Facts...
According to the American Greeting Card Association, an estimated one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (Christmas is the #1 greeting card holiday; an estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.)
The majority of Valentine’s cards go to (believe it or not) teachers! Kids come next, then moms, wives and girlfriends. 110 million roses are sold every year in America during the three days leading up to Valentine’s Day. 73% of those flowers are bought by men for the women in their lives. In addition to the United States, Valentine's Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia. Americans spend over a billion dollars on chocolates for Valentine's Day. Casanova, the notorious mack daddy of 17th century Europe, used to eat chocolate to get himself in the mood for doing the do. Montezuma, emperor of the ancient Aztecs, ate chocolate to increase his sexual prowess and stamina. The first heart-shaped box of candy hit the market in 1861. It was created by Richard Cadbury, son of the Englishman who created the Cadbury Brothers’ candy company (the folks who make those chocolate, cream-filled eggs for Easter nowadays. You’ve seen their commercials, the ones with the bunnies clucking like chickens.) Songs written by Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie are among the most-performed love songs of the 20th and 21st Centuries. That’s according to a new report by the songwriter’s association ASCAP. (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. ASCAP keeps track of how many times a song is played, either live or recorded, so that the songwriters get their performance royalties.) ASCAP put this list together in honor of Valentine’s Day. |
Happy V-Day! A revelation from God
Well, while I have no special one in my life nor any plans to "celebrate", I have to say that my future loved one is definately on her way.
There is a female friend of mine that is a good sweet single Christian woman. And while there is no romance involved between us, I have had an urge to just be a blessing to her; to help her out in any way possible, to sacrifice of myself where possible. And today I realized: God is having me do this b/c I am in training and practicing to be the husband that He destined me to be. (Eph. 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church). I have gone ABCD (Above and Beyond the Call of Duty) for her but I know it's not b/c she is using me. If that was true, my spirit would be drained instead of flowing with joy. Whether or not she will be my future mate isn't the point in all this. The point is that I am expressing what God intended for humans to give to their fellow man and future mate(s): true agape love. So today isn't supposed to be about flowers and candy (though there's nothing wrong with that)--it's supposed to be about sacrifice and being a blessing to the one(s) that you love. BTW, I am wearing red and white today, but that is only a coincidence with today being V-Day, I kid you not. Anyway, have a happy Valentine's Day to all of you, wherever you are. |
Okay did Iiiiiiii say I didn't like Valentinte's Day because clearly I was just mad or something, lol.
I came home today to find a huge bouquet that a lovely and HIGHLY INTELLIGENT man sent me, sitting on my table! It had the nicest note and I have to say that it MADE my day! In other Valentine news: I bought my Mother a chocolate covered cheesecake from JUNIOR'S (THE ONLY PLACE TO BUY CHEESECAKE IN NYC) and she bought me Eucerin lotion, lol. She knows me so well. Thank God she didn't buy me chocolate! The lotion I can use, the chocolate I'd have ended up either eating and then feeling bad about, or throwing away and then feeling guilty about. |
I have been talking to this guy and we stopped talking for a week.......because he would never let me get my way:( Anyway he caught an attitude and stopped talking to me. One of my friends told me that they saw him buying all these stuffed animals and gifts. So I was like man its 10:30 p.m so I know it wasn't for me. So when I went over to his room to investigate, he was planning a candle light dinner with chicken pot pies and curly fries....and my gifts! I regret being so hot tempered all the time.
