Do any alums wear spirit jerseys?

The chapter I advise is placing an order for spirit jerseys have asked the alum advisers if they'd also like to order. I like them, but are they just for collegiate members? Do any of the alums out there own and wear them?

sigmagirl2000 02-18-2014 11:13 PM

What exactly is a spirit jersey?

The chapter I advise gives me recruitment shirts, and bid day shirts, and other random shirts all the time. I like free clothing :)

bevinpiphi 02-18-2014 11:13 PM

I have one from the chapter I advise. I graduated May 2010 from that chapter, but many of the other AAC members also have the spirit jerseys. I'll wear them to volunteer for events or to alum events.

This is a spirit jersey:

They are ALL THE RAGE down here at Clemson. Sorority ones, some that just say Clemson on the back, location ones, you name it they wear it. It's an extension of the baggy-shirt trend that's all the rage right now. And I know that ADPi just ran a national order that said "Alumna" on the back so there's at least some interest.

IndianaSigKap 02-18-2014 11:21 PM

I want one with Indiana on the back but you have to order at least 6 at a time. :(

candygirl200413 02-19-2014 12:03 AM

A lot of alum near where I'm at school have them!

sigmagirl2000 02-19-2014 12:03 AM

ahh, thanks ClemsonGirl. My students wear those. I think I would have to wear a layer under them or fear a strong wind would expose me. I don't know where I would wear a shirt like that, but if being offered to me, I'd take it. I figure I can wear almost anything to campus events, etc.

TheGreenHeart 02-19-2014 08:45 AM

I am an alumna, and I have one that I wear regularly. I *love* mine--it is so comfy! :) I will likely get a second when I come across another color I like.

Xylochick216 02-19-2014 08:50 AM

They're incredibly comfortable. I have 2 from when the chapter I advise did bulk orders and they're great for wearing to casual chapter events or just around the house. I also have a UVA jersey that I've worn to football games.

DreamfulSpirit 02-19-2014 09:02 AM

I have one and I love it! I'm 2000 miles away from my chapter and it says "Arizona State" on it. I love being able to rep my chapter from so far away :)

AOIILisa 02-19-2014 10:54 AM

Thank you, everyone. I guess it's okay to order one, then. Although people tell me I look younger than I am, no one is going to mistake me for a college kid and I didn't want to look like (as we say in Philly) a smacked @ss if I wore a spirit jersey. :D

yellowrose26 02-19-2014 03:21 PM

I have one and I love it!!! I'm planning on wearing it on vacation next month!

Kevin 02-19-2014 03:46 PM

I've never heard of spirit jerseys or seen anyone ever wear anything like what is depicted above.

Must be a Yankee thing.

Oh hellz no. The only person from a northern state I see talking about these is the first poster.

Griffins&Quills 02-19-2014 05:03 PM

Definitely not a northern thing. It started as a huge trend at the southern schools first I believe

pomplemousse12 02-19-2014 07:25 PM

I have two, one for my college that I got from a homecoming order, and one for Alpha Phi that I got through the merchandise swap on Facebook.

I love them. I want more of them. They're so comfortable and useful for days when I'm feeling really fat/lazy.

tld221 02-19-2014 07:52 PM

These look so cute, and have NEVER seen these before. What's on the front of the jersey?

They're here.

IUHoosiergirl88 02-19-2014 08:13 PM

I have an Indiana one but it's WAY bigger than I thought it'd be. I look like I'm playing dress up!

AGDee 02-19-2014 08:29 PM

They are really cute and I would consider wearing one at times. Hypo wanted one but I was broke at the time they were selling them. She's in the northeast so it can't just be a southern thing. I think hers would have had the crest on the front.

tld221 02-19-2014 08:37 PM

So cute, but no NPHC option. Id wear one so hard in my alumni glory!

ForeverRoses 02-19-2014 09:00 PM

I have one that I wore during recruitment so I had on letters but didn't match the collegates.

AOII Angel 02-19-2014 09:20 PM

I have a friend in AZ that was sent one for Christmas by his mother with his hometown written across the back "Willacoochee" as big as you please. I don't think he'll be sporting that one anywhere. ;)

This really makes me want to buy one………

Am I the only one who thinks these things are ugly?

Perhaps it's just the latest (oversized clothing) trend. This is something I definitely won't be buying.

Hardly. They're all over the place here.

No, you're not.

Still got daughter the one she wanted for Christmas.

33girl 02-19-2014 11:07 PM

This may actually be worse than the oversized tank top trend.

DubaiSis 02-19-2014 11:10 PM

Both trends kind of fly in the face of looking your best while wearing your letters.

tld221 02-19-2014 11:37 PM

On 2nd thought, yeah, this is a really sloppy shirt. I think, at my size, I'd look totally dumpy.

misscherrypie 02-19-2014 11:39 PM

Here at Nevada, I see them fairly regularly. Cute, but not my style...

At least here, the general feeling seems to be that these don't "count" as far as wearing your letters goes. Every Tuesday all the sororities wear stitched lettershirts, take pictures for points if their chapters give those, tweet pictures for PR to Clemson Panhellenic, the whole nine yards. On those days everyone collectively makes an effort to look nice and present an polished image of sorority girls and Greek life in general. The other four days of the week are when you'd wear a spirit jersey-they're considered more on the level of event shirts in that while you wouldn't wear them out to parties since they still have your sorority's name on them, you can throw one on if you don't have the time or don't feel like putting a ton of effort into personal appearance that day. I also saw a girl working out in one once but I felt like that was too far, since they're meant to be baggy and heavy.

Not sure about the state or university jerseys, but the sororities tend to have the coat of arms/crest over the left breast.

SigKapSweetie 02-20-2014 10:27 AM

I love mine. It's very comfortable, lightweight enough that you won't suffocate in it but heavy enough to keep you warm when it's chilly. It's my go-to for road trips and theme parks now. I also ordered mine a tad smaller than the collegians did, and I think it looks a little more put together than the ENORMOUS shirts on these tiny girls.

I'm the same size and height as the girl in the pic Clemsongirl posted (thank you, Clemsongirl!), so I ordered a small. As someone who came of age in the eighties where spandex and tight jeans were the norm, I don't do "oversize" that well. :D But I think if I wear this jersey with skinny jeans or yoga capris, it will look cute.

And my former collegiate chapter in Maine (that I'm also an adviser for in addition to the chapter here in Philly) is putting in an spirit jersey order as well, so if the trend has extended all the way up there, it must be everywhere.

tld221 02-20-2014 02:41 PM

Now I'm toying with wanting one and not.

WhiteRose1912 02-20-2014 02:50 PM

I would say to be honest with yourself about how it'll look on you. Here's a gallery of them from Google image search to give you an idea of what they'll look like with different bottoms, on different bodies, and in different sizes.

EDIT: Although I would LOVE to see some NPHC spirit jerseys! You should post a picture if you get one.

kateee 02-21-2014 04:34 PM

Girls up here love them too. I know the Alpha Xi's on my campus did wine colored ones with white writing, and some girls from my chapter scored some cute ones from the shirt swap page. Currently, the company I work for has Ombre ones open for all 26 NPC groups and a Panhellenic one with the Panhellenic crest on it. I can link it if anyone wants one.

Actually, just gonna link it.
These Spirit Jerseys will only be available until March 2nd. Follow the link next to your sorority to order today!

The chapter I advise, we order shirts. The Alum Relations chair posts them on the facebook page for alums to purchase. We have a set price for shirts if they want to pick them up once they arrive, and another price that includes shipping if the alum wants it mailed. They are also in meeting minutes that are sent out to other advisors. The advisor just emails the alum relations chair and the t shirt chair about what size and then sends a check in. Sigma Gamma has done the spirit jerseys. I know some of the alums ordered them. Not my cup of tea, cute, just not for me. :) Hope that helps.

PersistentDST 07-15-2014 02:49 PM

I am in love with these Spirit Jerseys! I've scoured the internet looking for DST versions, but I guess they don't make them for NPHC groups unless they are special order :(. Does anyone know where I can order one of these individually?

I can't find a place that will let you order just one, most require a minimum. The smallest is have seen is 6. If you can get 5 other women in your organization who want one, you can place an order.

AGDee 07-15-2014 08:04 PM

You can order just one on this site: http://www.spiritfootballjersey.com/ But they don't have ALL the GLOs- just some of them.

There were alumnae wearing them at Convention the night we went to the baseball game.
