When Ras Kass drops his long-delayed Van Gogh, expect it to differ greatly from the advances that have made their way onto the net, as Ras has not only headed back to the lab to work with Havoc, but also with Scott Storch, and Timbaland. Expect the revised version of Van Gogh to drop in the spring of 2002.

Heltah Skeltah’s Rock is finalizing his solo-debut, Rock Man Uncensored, which will drop in spring 2002 on DJ Lethal’s (House Of Pain, Limp Bizkit) Lethal Dose Records. The LP will feature appearances from Outlawz, Fred Durst, and 9th Avenue. Some of the notable producers include Scott Storch, Rockwilder, Lethal, and Dr. Dre. Rock’s Heltah Skeltah cohort, Ruck, also is working on his solo-debut.

After her name breaking performance on Jay-Z’s Unplugged endeavor, frequent Roots collaborator, Jaguar, has readied her MCA debut, Denial, Delusions & Decisions. Look for Jaguar to take the Jill Scott route to stardom, “Slowly, Surely.”


Jay-Z and R.Kelly’s companion LP, The Best Of Both Worlds, project is picking up steam, as the duo has reportedly already recorded eight-tracks, including one with Devin The Dude. But when will Devin’s long-delayed sophomore debut see the light of day?


Kurupt & Tash are rumored to be working on material together as a group called DNA, while Defari has begun recording his sophomore LP, Odds & Evens.


Junior Mafia member, Larceny, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, and ordered to spend the next twelve months at Riker Island prison. The sentence resulted from Larceny and Lil Cease being stopped in a vehicle, which was registered to Lil Kim, after being stopped Police found Larceny carrying a loaded 22-caliber Beretta handgun, and Cease with a small amount of Marijuana. Larceny and Cease have also been charged with attempted murder for a shoot-out in Brooklyn, a hearing for this case will be held in January.


The Roots have decided on a title for their next-LP, Phrenology, which they are hoping to have out by June 2002. Collaborations with Andre 3000, Nelly Furtado, Jill Scott and Project Pat are being discussed. Look for DJ Scratch to contribute some production. Also, after Phrenology drops, look for ?uestlove to resume work on his BBE collaboration with James Poyser (The Randy Watson Project), which his been given a tentative title of Good & Terrible. Look for Jaguar to contribute backing vocals.


The Wu-Tang Killa Beez' upcoming effort, The Sting, will surface Feb. 26 on Koch/In the Paint/Wu-Tang Records. The album's lead single, "Killer Beez," hits radio in January. Produced by RZA, the album features contributions by RZA, O.D.B., U-God, Inspectah Deck, North Star, and Black Nights.

Count Bass D will release his new LP, Dwight Spitz, on 2-26-2002. It will feature collaborations with Edan (“Lil Story Rhyme”), MF Doom (“Quite Buttery”), and J Rawls (“Ohio Playas”). And in Counts own words “This is my best album yet, but not the best I will make.”

Mr. Khalyl/Mr. Man (formerly of Da Bush Babees) is the latest member of the BBE family, and is in the beginning stages of recording his BBE solo project.

Planet Asia’s highly anticipated Interscope debut, Life As It Is, will include production from Supa Dave West, Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, Battlecat, Roddy Rod, and Vitamin D. Look for collabo’s with Rasco, and Ghostface on “Real Niggaz.”


After his scene-stealing appearances on Iron Flag, who else is excited about the prospects of Inspectah Deck’s sophomore LP? Speaking of Iron Flag, why has GZA become such a non-factor in the Wu’s game plan?


Hiero news: the Hiero collective is working on a new family LP, Full Circle, and plans to release new LP’s from Souls Of Mischief, and Pep Love in 2002…


J-Ro of Tha Liks is executive producing a hip-hop Tribute To Roger Troutman---ATribute To Roger. The tribute will feature appearances from Snoop, Xzibit, Tha Liks, Kurupt, DPG, Chico DeBarge, Ras Kass, B-Real, Ice-T, Kam and J-Ro’s Wolfpac Records artists, Shae Fiol and Merciless Styles. Look for A Tribute To Roger to drop in April 2002.


Ugly Duckling are reportedly close to signing a major label deal with Columbia Records. And word is if they do indeed sign; before they drop a new LP, Columbia will re-release one of Ugly Duckling’s previous LP’s to help fan the buzz.


While we eagerly anticipate some new music from Mos Def in 2002, it seems as if he has put his recording plans on hold to concentrate on his burgeoning acting career. Mos has been cast to star in the Broadway play Top Dog/Under Dog this March with Don Cheadle. Also, Mos will appear in the upcoming movie Brown Suga.

How distorted is the hip-hop industry? Well, compare the following--- Nas’ Stillmatic moved 342,000 copies in its debut week, and Lil Bow Wow’s Doggy Bag moved 319,000 copies, outselling both Wu-Tang and Jay-Z????

Gang Starr has a hot new track out on the low right now "Natural" that will be released on a compilation that Virgin is doing with Spin magazine. Only way to describe it is CLASSIC Gang to the Starr. This should see wax in the next 3 weeks or so and with a all new B side as well.


Looks like the next Ruff Ryderz compilation on Interscope, will be the last project that goes through that company, look for them to link with Def Jam in early 2002. Upcoming projects projects are Styles from the LOX solo and then after that Sheek from the LOX solo.


Heard three new songs from Krondon, one of which had Xzibit on it. But the best of the bunch was one called "Hold It Down". This kid from LA is really gonna set it on those who are sleepin.... Also be sure to check out the track "James Worthy" when it drops.


The Major Figgas vs. the ROC beef heats up even more in Philly as Dutch from Dutch and Spade (Major Figgas side group now signed to Untertainment/ Interscope) dropped by WPHI Philly 103.9 durring DJ Jay Ski's 9:00 PM set. Dutch told his side of things, no Beanie call in on this show though like the call in on Power 99 a few nights before, I'm surprised they are still on air after that fiasco. Philly's #1 DJ, DJ Jay Ski was asked by a caller on his show the next day what he thought of the whole situation his take was "Man we have a alot of talented artists in Philly now, lets keep everything hip hop and on wax and I will just keep spinning all the good records that come out of Philly" So far rumors are flying out in the PHL about somebody waving guns at so and so in the clubs but as of now I have not seen it, and hope that it does not go down like that.


Speaking of Philly, Baby Blak of Ill Advised dropped by DJ Lieutant Dan's radio show to world premier tracks off his upcoming album that will be dropping on DJ Revolution’s label early to mid 2002, with the first single to drop in the next month or two. Producers include DJ Revolution, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Jay Ski, Evidence, and Joey Chavez. This album is one of the most diverse and solid albums that I have heard in a long time. Should be indie classic status with guests like Planet Asia, Evidence and many more. You can also catch Blak on the forthcoming BBE release by Jazzy Jeff. Last but not least Blak just signed a clothing deal with LRG, a new company that is getting ready to dig in your pockets.


J.U.I.C.E. is out and about doing about a 12" a day, but if you have ever wanted to hear his best work make sure to check out his two songs with SMP out of Chicago. This group just dropped their first 12" called "Session 1" , and are getting ready to drop a few more singles next year and thier debut album, with guests like Pace Won, Mr. Lif, and Eratik Statik.


What happened to Bad Boy? G. Dep's album looks to have gotten lost in a sea of new X-mas releases... Is Tommy Boy Records on shakey ground? Is Rawkus done doing indie records and indie distribution? Is Antra the label Kurupt is on under new mangement and about to relaunch him as the West Coast super star he really is? Is Mase going to have a greatest hits album? LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comic actor Chris Rock and his wife, Malaack Compton, are expecting their first child in July, Rock's spokesman Leslie Sloane said Thursday.
Rock, 35, star of the movies "Down to Earth" and "Dogma" and winner of an Emmy for writing his own TV comedy series, has been married for five years.

Rumors began to circulate that Kurupt, a member of Snoop's Dogg Pound, was signed to Tha Row after the label posted a statement eariler this week. Kurupt's publicity people and management issued statements saying that this was just a publicity stunt by Tha Row, but it is now confirmed: Kurupt has signed with Tha Row.

Kurupt made an appearance on New York's Hot 97 with Suge Knight, who was in town due to his Racketeering case. They appeared on Angie Martinez' show, along with Crooked I and Eastwood. "Crooked I plus the row equals platinum," Kurupt said. Suge was in his usual form, taking swipes at Dre's Aftermath. "We don't have no huge entourage, that's Aftermath. We come out here with open arms."

Suge also appeared to take swipes at Fabolous. When Angie Martinez went into Fabolous' "Holla Back Youngin," Suge said "If you gonna play something, play Jadakiss or Ja Rule. I only wanna deal with fools off the block. I don't wanna deal with no Hollywood niggas."

Suge also stated that he was building a strong relationship with Murder Inc. "We got a New York mob going on. LA Mob, New York mob."

Even Angie Martinez admitted that Kurupt being signed to Tha Row appeared to be a "weird situation," and requested that the duo make sure they return for the interview.

The duo will appear once again on Monday for an interview.

Prince Harry Says He Used Pot, Booze

LONDON (AP) - Prince Charles took his youngest son Harry to a rehabilitation clinic to show him the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, after the young prince admitted having smoked marijuana and getting drunk, a Sunday newspaper reported.

St. James's Palace, the official residence of Prince Charles, said the matter was now closed.

``This was a serious matter which was resolved within the family and is now in the past and closed,'' a spokesman said Saturday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

According to the News of the World, Charles made the decision after discovering the 17-year-old prince had used marijuana and had also been drinking at a pub near Charles' Highgrove country estate in western England.

Marijuana use is illegal in Britain and the legal drinking age is 18. Harry was 16 when he confessed to his father last summer, the newspaper reported.

There was no suggestion Harry needed treatment at the center, but merely chatted with addicts during a daylong visit to learn about the dangers of drugs.

The newspaper said Harry experimented with marijuana over a two month period at Highgrove, in a rundown shed at a nearby pub and at private parties held by friends.

Charles was often away on business and Harry's brother Prince William was away traveling on a ``gap'' year between leaving school and starting university, the newspaper said.

Charles was alerted to his son's behavior by a Highgrove member of staff, who noticed a strong smell of marijuana, the newspaper reported.

He took swift action, confronted the young prince and took him to a drug rehabilitation center in south London, where he spent a day talking with addicts.

He has not used drugs since, the newspaper said, quoting an unidentified family friend.

Charles was himself once involved in an infamous underage drinking episode. He was 14 when, during a school sailing trip in Scotland he and four other boys were given permission to dock at a remote island.

Charles led the boys to a public bar, where he ordered a cherry brandy.

The incident attracted international attention. Buckingham Palace staff furiously denied the incident, before admitting it. Charles has since said the words cherry brandy make him wince.

Several British newspapers, including the Sunday Mirror, The Mail on Sunday and the Sunday People tabloids, also carried reports about Harry's alleged underage drinking at the pub near Highgrove.

I heard that interview too. Someone had called in to say how they liked her interview w/OJ instead of how those idiots on the other station handled it. (I listened to the Star,Buc, and MJ interview that same morning). Wendy went on to mention that she is friends with those "idiots", Miss Jones, Star, and Bucwild and that they (all) recently went to lunch together.

EAST MOLINE, Illinois (CNN) -- President Bush -- scraped and bruised after a fainting spell -- extolled motherhood on Monday as another symbol of American patriotism, and gave the John Deere workers he addressed a lighthearted lesson to chew on.

"If my mother is listening, mother, I should have listened to you: Always chew your pretzels before you swallow," Bush said jokingly.

Bush lost consciousness for a brief time in the White House on Sunday evening while eating a pretzel and watching a professional football game on television. He fell from his couch, and has a scrape a large bruise on his left cheekbone, and a bruise on his lower lip to show for his troubles. His glasses cut the side of his face.

"I hit the deck," is how Bush described the mishap as he left the White House for his current two-day trip, which is focusing on economic issues during stops in Illinois, Missouri and Louisiana.

On the first leg of his trip, Bush received a John Deere jacket. He said when he heard he was going to get a gift, he thought he would be handed a pretzel -- the kind "that are easy to chew."

"When I work the rope lines, people bring their children. I always turn to the child, especially the teen-agers and say, 'Listen to your mother. It's the best advice I can give you.' I obviously needed to do the same thing last night. But I'm feeling great."

Bush was evaluated by a White House physician and cleared to travel Monday after all his vital signs were determined to be normal, White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said.


Dr. Richard Tubb, an Air Force physician, conducted the follow-up exam on the president. "Dr. Tubb checked all the vital signs and he told me all are normal and the president said he feels fine," Fleischer said.

Bush told the White House medical team Sunday he was watching the Baltimore-Miami NFL playoff game on the couch in his bedroom while eating pretzels, when he fainted. Bush said he believes he lost consciousness for only a few seconds at about 5:35 p.m., because when he opened his eyes, he said, his dogs were in the same location as his last memory from being seated on the couch.

However, he told a top aide, Karen Hughes, "they were looking at me a little funny."

Bush was initially examined by a White House nurse and then by Tubb on Sunday, and ran through a series of tests that included a cardiopulmonary workup, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Tubb told reporters Bush reported a pretzel "did not go down right" and the doctor said it was possible a pretzel had lodged against a nerve and momentarily caused a decrease in the president's heart rate, causing him to faint.

Baltimore won the playoff game 20-3.

1. Sources say that Kenny Lattimore and Chante’ Moore got married on December 21, 2001 in Jamaica. A spokesperson for Kenny’s label Arista says that it is just a rumor and it is not true. Nonetheless, with rumors that Chante’ could be pregnant, this would only be appropriate. If the couple did wed last year, this would be Chante’s third marriage. Moore was also recently dropped from MCA Records.

2. David E. Talbert definitely aint your “Mama I Want My Chicken Fried”-type of playwright. Talbert, whose highly acclaimed and financially successful theatrical presentations include "His Woman, His Wife," which featured Tommy Ford and
Stephanie Mills, and "The Fabric of a Man," which starred Shemar Moore and Cheryl “Pepsi” Riley, recently announced the creation of the Urban Broadway Series. The U.B.S. will present gospel musicals, plays, and concerts that capture the African American experience. For his latest venture, Talbert has solicited some Hollywood big wigs like Robert Townsend, Babyface and Tracy Edmonds, among others to work with him. The first play i! n the series is called "Love Makes Things Happen," which is a comedy about woman who makes six figures a year and falls in love with a man who makes $6.00 an hour. Music by Babyface will be the soundtrack for the feature that will star Kevon Edmonds, Coko of SWV, Dawn Robinson of En Vogue/Lucy Pearl, and comedian Joe Torry.

3. New MCA artist Keke Wyatt, who had an impressive industry debut on the “My First Love” remake with Avant, was arrested on Christmas day after she stabbed her husband five times during a dispute. Wyatt, who is 21-years-old, stabbed Rahmat Morton, who is also her manager. Morton suffered stab
wounds to the chest, arm, hands and his back, but apparently still living. Wyatt was charged with 2nd degree assault and if convicted could face 10 to 20 years in prison. Her first solo album “Soul Sista” was released November 13, 2001 and featured the single “Nothing In This World,” a duet with Avant. Unfortunately for Wyatt, life will imitate art! , as she’ll actually be appearing in a courtroom just like in her music video for that single.

4. Okay, more and more I am starting to think that something is wrong with Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Aside from burning down Andre Rison’s home, or the disappearing act she pulled about a year and a half ago, the TLC member now reportedly told fans via her website that she was about to start a clothing line in conjunction with Pelle Pelle and its founder Marc Buchanan, which according to Pelle Pelle, just aint true. This was also sited as the reason why the rapper wasn’t in the studio with TLC, holding up progress on their next album. Well the clothing company says they have not had talks with the Lopes about a clothing line and do even know what she is talking about. Huh? Anyways, to make matters worse, Left Eye has left Arista and has signed with Suge Knight’s Tha Row Records. She will record under the name N.I.N.A., an acronym for "New Identity Non-Applicable," and the street name for the 9mm handgun, according to her publicist.

5. Destiny’s Child Doing The Stellars
Pop mega-group Destiny’s Child will perform at the Stellar Awards, which is gospel’s premiere award show. The girls will perform the “Gospel Medley” from their “Survivor.” D.C. member Michelle Williams will also perform the duet “Steel Away” with Shirley Caesar on the award show. “Steel Away” is featured on Caesar’s “Hymns” album and will also be included on Michelle’s upcoming gospel project. Williams is currently featured on the cover of Gospel Today magazine and she discusses her gospel music endeavors in a feature interview in the magazine. When a! sked why she decided to record a gospel album, Michelle stated, “I’ve been singing in church all my life. When I got in Destiny’s Child I was still singing in church. Gospel has always been in me. I’m known as the “church girl” in the group. A lot of people know I come from church. I guess my personality and style of singing is very churchy. A gospel record wasn’t a question. It was something I wanted to do.”

Can't Say Names... Its still raining drama in the life of a washed up R&B singer. This “where are they now” sister that acted in a movie that began her fifteen minutes of fame has caused some local producers in her city to cry foul. Apparently, this wannabe-diva who is desperate to be in spotlight again, had numerous DC-area producers work on material for a both a gospel and R&B album that she’s attempting to shop for deals. Though this bad girl on the backburner, who has reportedly changed her first name in efforts of revamping her image, is professing to have a newly rekindled relationship with God and will strictly record gospel for now on, sources say that she also recorded the R&B album and will pursue the genre that’s the most lucrative. If I could tell you who this girl is, then maybe you could tell her she’s all washed up!

7. Eve's movie career has gotten underway. The rapturous raptress recently began shooting "XXX" with Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson. The flick is an X-Game version of James Bond that's not x-rated. Meanwhile, Vin is also set to star in "Pitch Black 2," which has just been green-lit for production. A busy man, he's also in talks to star in a sequel to
"The Fast and The Furious."

8. LEGENDARY rapper/beatmaker DJ Biz Markie is set to make to make a cameo appearance in "Men in Black 2." In the much-awaited sequel, Biz plays the role of a space alien who teaches Will Smith's character how to beatbox. Michael Jackson also has a cameo in the movie. Biz is currently in the studio finishing his new LP, "The Weekend Warrior," which drops February 26.

The war between The Reverends continue, as the Reverend Al Sharpton continues his attacks on the Reverend Jesse Jackson. In the current issue of New York Magazine, Al dissed Jesse saying that Jesse has an ego problem and that he can't deal with him. Jesse offered no comment on Al's statements so now Al is going under the belt. Al is running for President and he recently opened offices on the West Coast. Well Guess who was Al's special guest? Karin Stafford! Jesse's former mistress and the mother of his love child. Last November Karin and Jesse finally settled their child support arrangements, but Karin will never forgive Jesse for dumping her. HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED! Karin wanted Jesse to marry her and leave his wife but Jesse will never leave his wife Jackie. Al Sharpton should start dealing with issues and stop his hate campaign against Jesse Jackson. Jesse may have made some mistakes but Al will never take his place in history. As for Karin, get over it girl and get your own man not someone else's husband. Jesse Jackson is also making news about his finances. Friends of Jesse say his empire in crumbling. Sources site the loss of his political clout, personal scandal and Wall Street Backers who view Jesse as Anti-American. Last year Jesse employed 100 people now this year he has less than 50. Jesse's money is drying up and he has to find a new way to come up with cash. Another problem looming for Jesse is a new book coming out this year called The Real Jesse Jackson: 30 years of political activity by Kenneth Timmerman. ''Iyanla'' will talk no more

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Freshman syndicated talk show ``Iyanla,'' starring prolific author Iyanla Vanzant, has been canceled.

Production will wrap at the end of this week. Reruns will air in national syndication through the end of March.

``Iyanla'' is one of many syndicated shows to struggle this season. The court show ``Power of Attorney,'' talk show ``Talk or Walk'' and game show ``Card Sharks'' already have been canceled.

``It would have been great if the show would have worked but it is really ok that it didn't,'' Vanzant said in a statement blaming the show's demise on the Sept. 11 tragedy. ``I am grateful to have had the opportunity. Sometimes the climate is not right for what you are doing.''

``Iyanla,'' executive produced by news maven Barbara Walters and her business partner Bill Geddie, lost its prime 10 a.m. slot in the key Los Angeles market earlier this year.

Word from the NY Post that BEYONCÉ KNOWLES has been forced to give up her beloved Popeye's Fried Chicken while she's "slimming down" for her upcoming role in the next "Austin Powers" film, "Goldmember." Her contract allegedly stipulates that she undergo daily workouts with a personal trainer.
But Beyoncé, who's made her preferences known and has a "lifetime membership" card that entitles her to free food at any of the company's fast-food outlets around the world, decided the temptation was too great and has given the card to her father to hold.

I agree that was so straight up and down ticky tacky. UGH!! I saw but did not PAY ATTENTION to her show one day @ the dealership and I just was not feeling it. I found the show to be just another drop of water in a bucket full.

MARIAH CAREY didn't hold back about rival JENNIFER LOPEZ when Allure magazine reporter VANESSA GRIGORIADIS sat down with her earlier in the summer (pre-breakdown) for a candid chat. In October's Talk magazine, Vanessa shares her experience -- and some interesting Mariah moments -- from their meeting.

The background on the girls' feud is that J.Lo is signed to Sony records, Mariah's former label, which also happens to be run by her former husband, TOMMY MOTTOLA. Rumor has it that Tommy has taken sexy J.Lo under his wing and is working the same magic for Jen's career that he did for Mariah back in her Sony days.

When an interview with Lopez was mentioned by Grigoriadis, Mariah commented (sarcastically), "I bet it was really intellectually stimulating ... I bet you could just see the depth in her eyes, she was so soulful."

She also took jabs about current chart-topper J.Lo's singing ability, reacting to Jennifer's comments that she gets eight hours of sleep per night, "If I had the luxury of not actually having to sing my own songs, I'd do that too."

She is one of the few people in entertainment who I think can say that she was legitimately hurt by 9-11. because her show debuted two days before it, and was preempted for one week by straigh news coverage. By the time it came back on the world had changed.

Plus, every time I turned her show on for like three weeks (I was jobless at the time) it wold be about 9-11. After all that CNN coverage I did not want to see anymore, but that's just me...
