I wish...

Just some thoughts I've been having over the past few days as a result of reading this and other message boards....

I wish you'd ask if I'm active in my chapter rather than just noticing my letters.

I wish you'd ask how my chapter is participating in one of our National projects rather than if we're stepping in the next show.

I wish you'd ask how hard I'm working for my Sorority rather than how hard I pledged.

I wish you'd stop being afraid of what will happen to you when you're online, nothing will happen to you if you don't want it to. Realize that I don't want a puppet or a lackey, I want a Soror with her own mind and her own will, a leader who knows how to follow when necessary.

I wish you'd tell me why you want to be in my Sorority rather than how wonderful you think we are.

I wish you'd stop worrying about our GPA requirement. Take that energy to the library and study.

I wish you'd stop thinking we "need" you. Realize we could decide not to bring in another new member and be just fine for the next 30-40 years.

I wish you'd realize it's better to be yourself than try to determine what I'm looking for in a candidate.

I wish you'd realize I have opinions, just as you have yours, and although you may not agree with what I'm saying, respect me because I'd have the guts to express myself.

I wish you'd realize that only GOD can judge me.

I wish you'd realize you cannot understand everything. Sometimes you have to have first-hand experience.

I wish you'd realize greeks are human before all else, just like you.

But most of all, I wish you'd get to know the person who is in the Sorority/Fraternity and stop trying to fit her/him into whatever stereotype you have in your mind. And Fraternity/Sorority members let's not forget: be true to yourself. We were individuals before we had letters.

I am in total agreement. Good words. I want to post them in our chapter room, but thought I would ask you if you minded before I did?
God Bless!

I don't mind at all. Anyone is welcome to pass it along, so long as my signature is attached

i whole heartedly agree! i have a wish as well. i wish prospectives would understand that no one is owed membership. no one's chapter is required to take line before you graduate or get your service done or raise your gpa or meet any of the requirements. finally regardless of your family ties, you are not ensured membership, you must stand on you own merit and prove yourself worthy.

Very well said, Soror.

That's my GIRL!!!! Girl that is tight and it says it all and then some. Makes me want to move to where you are to vibe face to face and so you can hook a sister up with a tight home page.

I second your words primarily on the prospective candidates issue. Our GREEK orgs are not owed to any one, instead be yourself and if it is for you, IT IS FOR YOU!!!

C.R.S., I am LMAO @ YOU!!! Thanks for the support girl!

K S, you are so right. Sometimes we as current members of BGLOs are so into "what did you do to get into XYZ Fraternity/Sorority,Inc." that we don't even wonder what have they done since becoming a member. I am guilty of that inactivity myself this past year but I am going to empower myself to make a difference and stop being so selfish with my time and my energy.

I hope we all can make this world better some way somehow.

That is THE best post I've seen in a long time. Thanks so much for sharing it.

I thought this was timely as I was bored and surfing Greek Life.

Something to make us all think.

*Standing Ovation*

I hope to see that published in EVERY New Member Book within the next few years - with the proper citation, of course!
