Expansion and recolonization

OK, I ripped this question off from the LXA forum, but it seemed like a really good topic.....

Where would you like to see your GLO open new chapters or recolonize?

KillarneyRose 01-06-2002 11:28 PM

I would love so see some Delta Zeta collegiate chapters in Maryland. University of Maryland, Towson State. UMBC, etc.

ZTAngel 01-06-2002 11:37 PM

ZTA isn't considered one of the bigger organizations in the west. I'd especially like to see chapters at schools such as UCLA and other California schools.

DeltAlum 01-07-2002 12:21 AM

I'd like to see us have a greater presence in the South and the West.

The1calledTKE 01-07-2002 12:30 AM

All the schools of the Ivy league. Only Ivy league school TKE has a chapter at is Cornell.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-07-2002 12:40 AM

I would like to see D Phi E recolonize at Columbia/ Barnard, Syracuse, University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas at Austin, Chapel Hill, Temple, Berkeley, and UCLA. I would like to see further expansion in the South and California.

shadokat 01-07-2002 12:49 AM

Cream, I'm with you on D Phi Es in California and Penn. Do you know that the president of Penn is a D Phi E (Judith Rodin)? Funny thing is that she's not all that active. I'd like to see us colonize in Texas (Spring 2002!) and also recolonize at Indiana, Penn State, NIU, and our chapters in Canada.

amycat412 01-07-2002 02:55 AM

I'd like to see Chi O come back to my alma mater, USC. Also recolonize at SDSU. Colonize at Pepperdine, LMU and Chapman. More California schools.

AngelPhiSig 01-07-2002 07:53 AM

I would love to see Phi Sig back at Hunter College (our Alpha), Lehman College (our Alpha Alpha - when our Alpha split), Indiana U of PA, Penn State, UCLA (I think we were there before), Pitt (our Iota chapter! They installed us I think!) basically get back Alpha, Alpha Alpha, Beta and Gamma - since right now, our oldest is Delta!

I would love to see us colonize at Theil College in PA, one of my bestfriends goes there, and I would love to have her as a sister! Hmm... where else?! More in the middle of USA like in the plains... since one time I had a girl, in an NPC group even, ask me if Phi Sigma Sigma was local....

It'd be nice if my chapter of AEPhi wasn't the only one in North Carolina.

Miami1839 01-07-2002 09:49 AM

I'd like to see Beta Theta Pi recolonize at my school GMU. I'd also like to see Beta Theta Pi at University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Longwood, Old Dominion University, Randolph Macon, and Radford. I've always wanted to see Beta Theta Pi at Harvard and more ivy league schools too. I've wondered if anyone has tried establishing a chapter in Puerto Rico. Of course Puerto Rico is not a state and is a U.S. Territory so maybe it wouldnt work there.

Our first CA chapter was at UCLA. I don't know when they folded. Looks like there was a flurry of CA chapters colonized in the mid-70's.

UMgirl 01-07-2002 02:30 PM

East Coast and West Coast. WE have a ton open down south and in the Midwest, but in the state (NY) were it was founded on...we have 5 chapters total and only 2 active. Cali has alos lost alot.

Bri3D 01-07-2002 03:26 PM

I'd like to see more TriDelt chapters at som eof the California State Campuses, say Cal Poly SLO and Pomona, and at SDSU, SFSU, and Chico. Also I don't know how strong we are on the east coast and midwest. That would be cool to see, maybe in the future.

Tri Delta is considered strong in the midwest - I know a few from around here, I think you all are doing fine.

aephi alum 01-07-2002 08:24 PM

I would love to see more AEPhi chapters beyond the Northeast.

33girl 01-07-2002 09:02 PM

I guess I should answer my own poll question. ;)

I wish we could recolonize ALL our old chapters that are dormant...but I'd particularly like to see ASA back at Indiana, Illinois, Syracuse, UCLA, Miami of Ohio and all the PA and NY state schools where we used to be.

I'd like to see new chapters at Pitt or Carnegie Mellon (nice to have sisters right down the road :)), the Pacific Northwest, and Canada.

MoxieGrrl 01-07-2002 09:08 PM

Even though there are a good amount of KD chapters in the midwest/southern regions around us, I would love to see another KD chapter in WV! Right now, we're the only ones.

And of course, more chapters out West!

greeklawgirl 01-07-2002 10:25 PM

I'd love to see our chapters at SDSU, UCLA, USC, and Berkeley re-colonized.

LXAAlum 01-07-2002 11:57 PM

33Girl...feel free to visit the LXA forum anytime!

Personally, I always wanted to see LXA back at UNC (Northern Colorado)....it only took 11 years to make that happen - they are starting their fifth semester back on campus now!

Otherwise, LXA - I'd love to see CSU come back (some SERIOUS changes to the greek system and the campus perception of greeks has to change first), and Colorado College (CC closed in 1942 during WWII and never reopened).

LXA typically tries to colonize first at campuses that previously had a LXA chapter. However, LXA just recently started a colony WAY up north in Alaska.

queequek 01-08-2002 12:33 AM

I want to see our chapters in all Ivy League schools: remaining four should be recolonized: Harvard, Yale, Penn and Columbia.
(since we're having Brown, Darthmouth, Cornell, Princeton).

We're really picky about putting our chapters in, and I would like to see our expansion to the South and West as well, especially Texas.

aggieAXO 01-08-2002 01:03 AM

Not that we don't have enough AXO chapters in Texas but I want some more as we do really well down here and we have many legacies due to having 12 chapters presently. I would like to see a colony at North Texas and Southwest Texas State. Maybe one in San Antonio at UTSA.

Optimist Prime 01-08-2002 09:19 AM

Of course I want all our old chapters to come back, but especially Richmond. Also, I would like us to expand more in Canada. We have 75% active chapters to chapters installed so not too many have closed. I would like to see us stronger in the midwest and western part of the country.

LexiKD 01-09-2002 10:27 AM

Well, I would love to see KD back at any closed chapter and maybe ASU, NCSU.

lionlove 01-09-2002 11:47 AM

I would like to see Wesleyan college in Macon GA let greek life back on theur campus. Both Phi Mu and ADPi were founded there and it would be nice to have our alpha chapter back. I would also like to see Phi Mu in some of the large state schools in the Midwest/West. It would be nice to see some really strong Phi Mu chapters somewhere other than the south.

Tom Earp 01-09-2002 06:11 PM

As prviousally stated, the Greek Organizations want to go onto Campuses that they are welcome onto!

We just reopened Gettysburg and are rumors that there may be ,more! Our International seems to have a plan of recolonizing or opening new chapters to about 5-6 a year! This is a far cry from the olden days of E C and Myself when LXA and TKE were vieing to grow the fastest. Many have been lost to the handling of the chapters and because of the schools.

It is such a shame because we have the most to offer to the individual to learn more than just getting grades. Our members learn how to cope with the after life of college! Standards of grace and working with people and doing in the community.

Hell We are the Best of the Best!!!!

Rumor (?!) has it that a Wesleyan president's daughter years ago tried to get into a sorority but didn't get into any group...so she commited suicide. He got rid of the sororities after that. Probably a urban legend...

carnation 01-10-2002 12:41 AM

I'd like to see the colonization of the Hawaii Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi at UH/Manoa, and heck, let's put Hawaii Beta at Hawaii Pacific! And I'll be very glad to go out and help any way I can!;)

shopgirl 01-10-2002 01:54 AM

Hey there!!!:)

I would love to see Sigma Kappa at any and all Ivy League schools. We were at Cornell once, but that closed a while back. I believe we just opened a chapter at the U of Penn. or are in the middle of doing so...which is great! :D

Also, I'd like to see us at the universities around NC. We are currently at NCSU and UNC-Charlotte. So that leaves, Chapel Hill, Asheville, Greensboro, Wilmington, East Carolina, etc. I'd like to see more chapters in Flordia as well.

It would be beyond awesome if we could reopen our Alpha Chapter at Colby College in Maine, BUT they no longer have a greek system.:(

dzsaigirl 01-10-2002 01:58 AM

In keeping with Carnation's theme, I say that we all have an NPC convention in the Bahamas and some of us will stay after the fact to develop chapters there!

I'd just like to volunteer at this time to represent D Phi E! :) I'll go to Hawaii too!

dzrose93 01-10-2002 11:24 AM

I'd love to see DZ colonize more chapters, especially in the South and out West! Additionally, I'd like for us to re-open some of our old chapters which were dissolved for one or reason or another. For example, at Brenau University and Georgia Southern! :)

Really? That's an interesting rumor. I would love to find out if it's true.

kappaum 01-10-2002 11:56 AM

I'd my chapter to be back at U of Maryland. We were one of the top chapters.

How come the Maryland chapter closed?

Tom Earp 01-10-2002 06:20 PM

While I know My ex school is not totaly that happy with Greeks I never understood why ADP left campus, even tho they were not the so callled beauties. KD came on campus and lasted for 2 years! That is a bunch of sh^& as these were and are 2 strong Nationals! We have a total of 3! AGD, SSS, and ASA.

There are LXA, SX, PKA, SPE , STG, and PSK mens on campus!
I look at other Kansas State Schools and there are a lot more with a smaller enrollment!

If not for the Greeks, there would be nothing but High Scoll Bands Trodding in Horse S^&%!!!!!

Several Freinds are from other Fraternitys who are looking to come on campus and MY best advice, do not yet!

You may not last long enuff to be put on a web site!

sigmagrrl 01-13-2002 06:41 PM

I would love to see Tri Sigma back at Miami U of Ohio, U of South Carolina, and Indiana University. I would love to see us colonize at UCLA or USC, U of MD-CP, Texas A&M, and U of GA...We are also no where to be found in the Mountain states (NM, CO, WY, etc...)

TriSigmaTX 01-23-2002 10:05 PM

I'd love to see Sigma more at larger schools. South Carolina would be great, more California, we're moving into Texas, I've been working on that and will keep making it happen. We're growing into one of the largest!!! :)

SLOTheta 01-24-2002 11:15 PM

I woudl have loved to see Tri-Delt at Cal Poly-SLO! I just graduated from there this December, and would have loved to have another Nationally strong and well known house. Maybe our stuck up Panhellenic board will allow some notable houses to come to campus! They are so afraid of losing numbers in their houses they won't give any new ones a chance! 6 sororities, 18 fraternities, is that uneven or what?
