The Libations Thread!
No, this is not the drunk thread. Go find that other thread. ;)
Martinis are with gin so tell the bartender if you suck and want vodka. GCers, please share your drink recipes, drink favorites, or drink pet peeves. What say you, GC? (If there's already a thread like this, pardon me and DRINK UP.) |
I've been a big fan of white sangria lately. I have a really basic recipe if anyone wants it!
Also Hendricks gin is potentially the most delicious thing I have ever had. |
My two favorites of the tailgating season:
1. Blood Mary made from Zing Zang, Absolut Peppar and bacon vodka 2. Salted Watermelon Margarita made with Jose Cuervo margarita mix (no tequila) and UV salty watermelon vodka |
No gin or vodka for me please. Never have liked either one of them.
Of course, there is one exception—I love a good Bloody Mary even though I not only don't like gin, I hate tomato juice. Go figure. Bourbon, scotch and rum, on the other hand, make me very happy. I make a mean mint julep and am always happy with a mojito. |
I'm a sugar monster. My drink is a Shirley Temple with Absolut Mandarin. It tastes like Skittles. :)
|
I am wanting a mimosa made with fresh squeezed OJ and decent champagne. I am also a fan of a Cape Cod (yummy yummy vodka -- no judgment!)

That sounds delish!!! |
When I'm in the mood for a good Bloody Mary, man does it hit the spot.
I much prefer Bellini's to Mimoma's. Favorite trendy drinks of the moment: Cucumber cocktails or spicy cocktails (jalapeño) When I go out, usually I drink a cranberry vodka or champage (Veuve, Dom P, or Perrier Jouet usually) Cab Sauv, Sauv Blanc, or Chardonnay for dinners at home (depending on the meal). |
I don't like shots, and I especially don't like Fireball.. but since everyone here in Houston seems to love it, and every bar has a Fireball special night, I figured I should find some way to try and like it.
And then a bartender made me an "applesauce" shot: 1/3 Fireball (or other cinnamon whiskey) 1/3 apple schnapps 1/3 pineapple juice I tend to add a little more pineapple to mine, but yea.. it's delicious! |

Honey Bourbon & seltzer - it's like honey soda.
Pumpkin schnapps & coffee. Mmm . |
A Pimm's Cup. It's hard to make it right on this side of the pond, though, because we don't have the fizzy lemonade they have in the UK.

Don't hate me: I've never had a Bloody Mary. I cannot stand tomato juice so I have been reluctant to try them. There is a bar about a mile from my apartment that is famous for them. My boyfriend and I have been meaning to try them. |
My signature party drink is the mint bucket.
Equipment: Large punch bowl Enough spoon straws for your guests Mixins: Layer 1: Fresh mint leaves Layer 2: Ice Layer 3: Fruit--strawberries, blueberries, grapes, etc. never melon of any kind. Layer 4: Ice Layer 5: 2 cans condensed pink lemonade, 1 liter of ginger ale and 1.75 liters of vodka. What next: Allow to sit for 10 minutes. No glasses are allowed, everyone drinks directly from the bowl with their spoon straws or eats the fruit. |
Oh, GCers....

You are officially a grown up in my family when my Grandfather offers you a Manhattan at a family gathering. Still my go to cocktail.

LOL...that's my dad's favorite drink. He used to get ticked off when we'd raid his maraschino cherries for our "kiddie cocktails" (That's what my grandfather called Shirley Temples...he'd make those for us at his house). Amazingly, no one in our family is an alcoholic. :o |
I'm a big fan of warm alcoholic drinks for fall and winter
Spiced Wine: 1 bottle of red wine. (I'm partial to a cherry wine from a Tennessee winery) 1 bottle of cran apple juice. Put in crock pot with mulling spices (I get the kind in the packets). Allow to heat for a few hours. Spiked Cider: Apple cider and spiced rum (Captains or Sailor Jerry). Crock pot with mulling spices, or just cinnamon sticks. Hot chocolate with Whipped Vodka. The good stuff, not the shit that comes from powder. Top with the alcohol infused whipped cream. |
Really easy peasy, Banana Popsicle: Banana liqueur and Mountain Dew. It really does taste exactly like a banana Popsicle (to the point that I kind of wonder what those were all these years).

I'll have a very dry Tanqueray martini straight up with a twist. ;) Years ago, my husband put me onto the idea of vodka tonics made with citrus vodka. Nummy and very refreshing in summer. And I recently discovered Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer. 4.8% ABV and also very refreshing on a hot summer day. |

I think they're originally a Canadian concoction, so unless you're there or close to the border, it's hard to come by a bartender who knows what they are. My family is from New England, but even there it can be tough to find a bar that carries clamato juice. |
Tomato juice? I dunno. I need sugar in my tomato juice. That sounded gross, I know, but I love how my Coctel de Camaron at my fav Mexican restaurant tastes. It has avocado, onions, peppers, and other stuff including a sweet taste. This may seem strange but I can imagine some libations being put in there.

If the bar is open I'll have a Mexican martini or maybe a mojito.
My fall back drink is a simple vodka and tonic or Jack with a Coke back. |

My favorite is...The Old Fashioned. Especially when it has a huge ice cube, a big sliver of orange peel and a more high end marinated cherry.
You can never go wrong with a good Bloody Mary or Bloody Beer (Michelada). |
My go-to drink is a mojito. I can't drink beer, wine, or champagne because of allergies. I think it's the sulfites, because I can't eat shrimp or coconut either, but who knows?
|
Bellini's, Mint Julep, Mimosa.. Love them all!
Too bad they don't serve them here. (seriously, have yet to find anyone who knows what a Mint Julep is on this side of the pond) Most drinks here are mixed with either vodka of jenever. Vodka is ok, strong but I like a basic Screwdriver. Jenever though? Yuk!!! I usually order a Raspberry mojito here, or stick with drinks like 43. Liqor 43 tastes amazing! |

Ok, I lied.. I do like one other shot. About a year ago, I was in NJ at the bar with my bf, and a family friend and his gf came in and sat across the bar. It was crowded and crazy, so they didn't see us at first. We told the bartender to send them a good shot, and to let them know it was from the good-looking couple from across the bar :D So he gives them a shot, and then they sent us one back. The bartender asked us what we wanted. We looked at each other, then back at the bartender and said we didn't know. He said, "I know something you might like...... have you ever had a little beer?" We were confused. He smiled and told us, "Don't worry, you'll like it." So he poured us our shots; Licor 43 (which I had never heard of before then) and a little bit of Baileys on top. Best. Shot. Ever. And the reason it's called a "little beer"... because Licor 43 is the color of beer, and the Baileys creates the "head" on top. Tasty AND adorable! Every person (bartenders included) that I've asked about Licor 43 since then has looked at me like I have two heads. Apparently it's not that popular... but I love it! |
I'm fine with sucking. I own my suckage.
I like sweet drinks, and gin is not sweet. Gin tastes like a Christmas tree in a glass, which is lovely if that's what you like, which I don't. My favorite drink is a French martini. That is, depending on the bartender, either vodka, Chambord, and pineapple juice; or Chambord, Grand Marnier, and pineapple juice. Either is fine and is happiness in a glass. Unfortunately, I get to have one about twice a year. I love French martinis, but I usually drink Skinny Bitches, because they are lower in calories. Sigh. What is a Skinny Bitch, you ask? Flavored vodka (more suckage! Woohoo!) and diet Coke. I'm particular about the vodka, as well. My favorite flavored brand is Hanger One, followed by (in order) Belvedere, Grey Goose, Absolut (only certain flavors), and Finlandia. I like Ketel One -- it's actually my favorite plain vodka -- but it only comes in orange or lemon for flavors, which aren't sweet, so not crazy about those. I will drink flavored Stoli, but grudgingly (it's 35 or 37.5% alcohol compared to 40% for the others. Yes, it's that deep). I will not drink: Pinnacle, Van Gogh, Svedka, Three Olives, or Smirnoff. Then, I actually specify that I would like my drink in a pint glass, with a cherry. (Yes, I tip well. Bartenders remember me, heh.) The request for a cherry is because if I don't specify, I get a lime, which is sour. Blecch. (I don't like beer, either, because it's bitter.) If I'm somewhere that doesn't have flavored vodka, sometimes I choke down vodka and soda, but again, I'm cranky about it because it's not sweet. Also will drink Captain Morgan and diet Coke or Jack and diet Coke if I've been dragged to a dive bar and there is no decent vodka. If I'm at home, I drink plain Ketel One or Stoli with a sweet mixer with no calories, like diet Sprite or Crystal Light. I swear, I'm not an alcoholic, either. Really. Good times. |
Caesars are indeed Canadian. I can't stand them but my father loves them, as do quite a few of my friends and sisters.
My own drink of choice is either a double or triple distilled whiskey- Crown Royal Black Label for the double and Jameson Special Reserve for the triple. Gin is also delightful. |

Guess I'm not there yet. :Kanye shrug: |
I'm simple- I'm happy with Bailey's on the rocks or a good glass of wine. I don't really get all the different flavors of vodka out there now. Any alcohol tends to mess with Crohn's so it's pretty rare that I drink these days.
|
^^^Is Bailey's with chocolate milk bad for Crohn's? Because it's magical.
|
No Gin for me please, I'll take a Vodka, Lime & Soda!
|
Stealth- anything with alcohol makes me feel bad when I'm flaring :(
|
My favorite new nonalcoholic beverage that has helped me to get off sugar and sodas
1 part OJ 7 parts water Energy Mio water enhancer to taste It's good! |
