Iowa Recruitment
Does anyone know how many women are registered so far?
|
Nope. I'll see if I can find out
|
In case you aren't following their Facebook page...

I'm dying to find out the numbers as well, hoping it will be another great year!
|
Got current numbers
They still have till Monday to sign up. Right now there are 811 PNMs signed up |
Wow. And several more days. For all you lurkers out there KEEP AN OPEN MIND!!!
This may not be Alabama, but girls do get cut heavily and hearts are broken every year. The system is good and growing. Give every last chapter a chance and you too can have a happy ending. I'm predicting quota a 45, which means a lot of drop outs again this year. I'd love to see 50+ because that would mean 1-girls are in fact keeping an open mind and 2-we can bring back a chapter that closed some time ago. |

I think it was in the 650 range last year, so a significant jump.

Nope it started at 872 last year. I have last year's stats
Lots of drops in the first round |
I wonder how many new member classes will road trip to Ames for the Iowa State/Iowa game on the 14th. :D
|
Probably tons. We did a road trip once every fall and once every spring and just found floor space in that very oddly configured house. If we ever go back to ISU we CERTAINLY won't go back into that weird apartment cum sorority house we had then.
But back on the numbers, here's where we could see girls not bailing on the situation prove the difference in quotas. If we could keep them in the process, quotas would go up a lot. I hope they do! |

Unfortunately, I think that this will be the last day of Round 3 for the girls. Also, the last day of Round 1 (Sept 6) has a home football game going on too. |

Glad to hear some good news from Iowa! I hope quota will be high. I'm hoping we'll get a good story from a PNM!
|
I will report whatever I found out. Dunno if I will be on campus next weekend. Since I have 2 appointments at the U of Iowa Hospital, I might stop by the APhi house

I think deferred recruitment at Iowa has helped retention some. It's hard to say if the women who drop out after the first round do so because of the scheduling or because they were released from the houses they had their heart set on. |

I was looking at the (nicely updated) Iowa FSL website. For this year's recruitment schedule, it shows 16 sororities for first round, 10 invites back for second round, 6 invites back for third round, and two pref parties.
Is that different from last year? I remember my daughter having 16-11-7-3. Maybe I'm getting too old to remember correctly. |
It's ALWAYS been 3. That is very weird. In the dark ages (for me) it was 15, 11, 9, 5, 3. Yes, that's a full extra day of rush. We had Welcome (2 days), Welcome Back, Panorama, RSVP and Preference. I wonder what the thinking is, except maybe to keep girls from getting their 3rd choice. 1 of 2 maybe isn't as bad as getting 3rd of 3. I think they are on a continued struggle to get more girls to accept their bids. Over the last 10 or 15 years or so I've seen them try lots of different things to help the process. NOT having round 1 in the chapter houses was probably the biggest fail. When you have those beautiful houses, why would you not use them?
|
The football game will wreak havoc with so many girls schedules! Just think how many Pom, cheer and other groups that perform at the games! And, of those groups how many girls are a part of the Greek system! Oh and heaven forbid this heat wave continues! I know my daughter will be missing a large chunk of rush.

Update on numbers
877 registered PNM's! (60 more than when I emailed you last week)! Registration closes tonight so there might be more |
So they beat last year's numbers! We need a bunch of old broads standing on every street corner saying DON'T DROP OUT!!!! DON'T DROP OUT!!! Kind of like the bible beaters on the Pentacrest. HA! The picture I have in my head is positively hysterical.
Jill, can you confirm the 2 preference parties thing? And do you know the reasoning behind that? |
Wow! Go hawks! It would be awesome if they have a high retention rate! Lets hope the little groups make a great push and have a successful rush! (And hope a lot of girls are open minded!

OMG, I would totally join a group of old broads chanting "DON"T DROP OUT! Hysterically laughing at the pic I have in my mind too!:D |

Just found out my friends daughter is signed up! She literally decided on the last day of registration and went for it! I'll try to find out as much as I can about her story! She does have a Kappa aunt, a sis who was an AXiD so she has some greek backgroud, but registering late I'm not sure if she got rec letters in on time!
|
The PNMs can only go to a maximum of two preference parties. I wish they were doing three. When I went through, I was 'dead-set' on my favorite but I liked the other two I went to on preference equally. Their pref parties made the distinction clear to me though. I just feel with so few days, having another party allows women to make a better choice on a huge decision. Plus, going from 7 to 2 seems like a large drop but maybe that's just my opinion.
My sister is recruiting for the first time, she is already hoping to meet her future little! |
It all starts today! The girls meet their groups! Good luck everyone!
|
Good luck one and all!
|
First Round begins tonight! I am looking forward to hearing my daughter's perspective from the other side this time. Wishing all PNMs and Moms good luck! I hope we get to read an Iowa story this year.
|
I know of 3girls going through this year. My dz says the first day was a lot of busy fun! She already has a rush crush! I'm hoping for a story too!
|
I talked to my daughter this morning and she said the first night of first round was great! She was a "server" this round, but will be a greeter and talker tomorrow for 2nd round. So, she hasn't gotten any rush crushes so far. She said they ended up with 907 PNMs. Is that correct GCers in the know? If so, that's way more than last year isn't it?
|
Oh . . . and the Hawkeyes won today!!! Maybe that's a good sign!
|
Go Iowa! 907! Is the the actual total? Impressive. The houses will be bursting at the seams. Talk about a "fuel injected" Greek system!
|
I got my first responses from my rec girl at Iowa. She was invited back to 5 chapters, only 1 of which she's happy with.
She says if she doesn't get back this chapter, she's dropping out because she doesn't really like any of the others. She said there are an overabundance of tall skinny blondes. And one girl in a house she didn't like asked her what her dad did for a living, which seriously turned her off. I of course told her to stick with it. 2 of the chapters she got back I think would be very good and the 2 others have a lot going for them. But I'm really surprised at how heavily she was cut. Her resume is pretty impressive! |
Wow! I'm wondering if heavy cuts were across the board.
|
My rec girls said nobody in her group got more than 6 parties out of a possible 10 max. So I'd say cuts were brutal.
Apparently over 100 have dropped out and 10 were kicked out due to drinking. Because, you know, you can't fix stupid. |

Don't know, but my guess is there were fraternities involved. Or it could be public intox. If the girls were smart enough to drink in their own rooms and keep it quiet, no, I don't see any way they'd have gotten into trouble.
A chapter had a girl rushing who is pregnant. Have you EVER heard of that before? Why on earth wouldn't they put her on a behind the scenes task? |
