Grammy Nominations
This morning the Grammy nominations were announced.
India.Arie received 7 nominations in various categories. Brian McKnight and Outkast received 5 nominations each. Alicia Keyes received a few nominations as well. The Show will air February 27 from L.A. |
"We" Done Did Good...
Alicia Keyes picked up 6 nominations, including "Best New Artist" (but did not get a nod for album of the year)...
U2 (For those diverse folx on GC--like myself--that listen to Rock and Alternative music also in addition to Jazz, Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B)...got 8 nominations (deservedly so), including best Rock song for BOTH "Elevation" and "Walk On"...They also got the nod for the coveted album of the year... India Arie got like 6 (I believe?? Correct me if I'm wrong) nominations, including one for album of the year! I'm so proud of her! Her album IS the BOMB and I'm glad she's getting recognition for it... |
I was SO PSYCHED when I heard about India.Arie!!!
In a time when o much of black music seems to be saying "I have a blue BMW and I can induce your girlfriend to have oral sex, which of course makes her a worthless bitch, just like I hope all the young girls listening to this music grow up to be too" it is so nice to have someone telling a story and telling it so beautifully. |

what's the difference?
Could someone please explain to me what is the difference between 'Album of the Year' vs 'Record of the Year'?
Ironic, isn't it that these are still named albums or records when they are purchased now as cd's... If you were to go to a 'music' store (no longer the record store) and asked for so-n-so's 'Album' they'd look at you as if you asked for a 45 or an 8-track. Funny how times have changed... |

ALBUM = Entire Musical Recording |
How and why in the heck did Afroman get a nomination for "Because I Got High? Granted, I like the song, but it's not worthy of a Grammy.
|
A reminder!
|
I just heard that Patti LaBelle will be joining Mya, Pink, Christina, and Lil Kim on " Lady Marmalade". Lord, Patti is gonna put them girls to shame!
|
can't wait!
I hope India Arie and Alica get at least 3 grammy's. And why hasn't NSYNC gotten a grammy yet? They need one.
QTE |
All I know is
If Alica Keys sing "Fallen" at the Grammys,
(singing Contagious) "I'm about to catch a casseee" I am so tired of her singing that damn song! QTE ;) |

what i think...so far
1. I can't stand Jon Stewart, wish they'd get Rosie O back as host
2. U2, why are they still getting nominations for an album they had out last year??? 3. Christina, DOES look like she's gained some weight. She might be about 105lbs now:eek: 4. Pink, looked terrible, what was up with her hair? 5. Sarah Hughes, she might be the best skater in the world, but she won't make a dime if she doesn't learn to read cue cards:o 6. Reall good performances by Train and Patty LaBelle :) 7. DC's performance was pretty good...because they didn't let Beyonce try to steal the show 8. Alicia Keys is the LAST person I would give best R/B album to. Mary, Aaliyah and India Airie all had better albums IMO |
Why in the BLING BLING section of H*LL does NELLY have on that BIIIIIIIIG @$$ #1 CHARM!! That ain't even a charm.
Alicia's performance is VERY different but I like it from the moment she got up off of the piano. |
Mary J's performance was sweet! I liked it.
|
OMG why did Dre from Outkast steal Miss Piggy's hair?????
|
I'm all for categories such as best rap group and rap artist, but I get so embarassed whenever I see some of those rappers acting (and dressing) so...GHETTO. I mean, for real yall. Is that foolishness necessary ALL of the time? Dre from Outkast looked like a pure, unmitigated FOOL with that platinum wig on and those PINK coolouts. THANK GOD Lil' Kim looked HALF decent (even for her). I think that Pink might have been...HIGH. And that man who was singing the blues (I forget his name). What was wrong with him? I loved the beat, but for the life of me, I couldn't understand A THING that he was saying. He sounded much like a white James Brown. Maybe he was sipping a little bit of the sauce before he came on. :D :D I, of course, thought that it would have been kinda nice to NOT see Destiny's Child...FOR A CHANGE. And why didn't they give Indie.Arie atleast ONE grammy. She was cheated this year and Jill Scott was cheated last year.
|
ok
I saw the first hour and a half.
I've seen Jon Stewart funnier, but you know Rosie ain't coming back for a while until she knows the public is cool with her being gay. And why did he have to get naked at the beginning? When Alicia Keys got her first award I was thinking "what does this chick have on??" I mean for real y'all. The last award show she looked kinda crazy with that long weave that didn't look flat ironed. When she started to sing "Fallen", Chile everybody next to me ran for cover, cause I through everything under the sun at the damn T.V! :D :D But I must agree, when she busted out with the new version and the dance part, I liked it a lot, you could tell she was nervous. Pattie didn't get to sing enough, all she did was yell a few bars and that's it. And was her feather thing suppossed to fall off? I think that was an accident. yes britney looked nice, I don't like her with curly hair though. I about DIED when Nelly came out with that big azz one around his belly(cause it wasn't on his neck, the thing was hanging so low) it stands now for #1 idiot. But my boys NSYNC put on a pretty good performance. and Justin is getting his hair back:D . Why did I think that the white old dude singing during the "brother where art thou?" performance was going to die right on the stage! He sounded just like that old man in the church trying to real the annoucements and you don't understand nuttin. Kid Rock just don't give a damn, that's why I like him. Pamela was covered up also, good for her! I'm gonna go home after my shift and watch the rest, then I'll be back. QTE ;) |
Alicia Keys
I am very upset that Alicia won all those awards, and India Arie not one. I quess it pays to be under Clive Davis.
|
I also saw the Grammys. Here's my Good, my Bad, and my HOT MESS:
The Good: Alicia's performance (the tango part) "Lady Marmalade" performance Beyonce and 'em (really! I liked them singing in Spanish!) N'Sync/Nelly performance (yeah your boy is getting his hair back) Brittany Spears and the fact she had clothes on. Justin must be regulatin' The Bad: What Pink and Christina were wearing in "Lady Marmalade". Christina, what is you thankin!? Pink, what's up with the hair! Lil' Kim and her lack of pronounciation ("decision" vs. "decRision") The HOT MESS: Nelly and that big a** #1. What does it take to be number 1? Obviously a long a** chain to hold it with  HOT MESS. Outkast. I'm from the ATL and ought to be used to them, but...the platinum hair and pink coolouts...HOT MESS. Christina and Pink again. Not only did they look bad, it was also a HOT MESS. India. Arie not winning at least ONE Grammy...HOT MESS. She may not have sold as many units as your girl, but she had a great sound as Jill Scott did. And Jill got screwed last year. HOT MESS. |
WTH was wrong with Faith Evans hair in the Lady Marmalade song? She was acting extra GHETTO when they accepted the award. And it look like she accidently walked up to Lil Kim to congratulate her then changed her mind.
Alicia Keys out fit was a HOT MESS but I do appreciate the fact on how she said the awards have made her humble. Nelly/Backstreet Boys thing was alright too. |

Backstreet Boys = N'Sync. LMAO |

That was not Faith! That was Christina Aguilera! Faith and Lil Kim on the same stage??? LOL
Anyway, I enjoyed the Grammys last night, especially Alicia Keys and Destiny's Child (They actually sound good in Spanish!) I also liked the "O Brother" medley(loved the movie!) I'm a little disappointed that India.Arie got shut out. I was expecting her to win at least one award. I was hoping that Mary J. Blige would win something, too. But let me ask one question: WHAT THE HELL WAS DRE THINKING WHEN HE WORE THAT LONG A** WIG? |
I think Alicia knew her first outfit was whacked, because she kept on the outfit she performed in. how did she keep her eyes open with all that glittery gook on them?
Was India.arie crying when they showed her backstage with U2? It looked like Bono was trying to comfort her beore going to accept his award. I think Mary J. needs to schedule a visit with Dr. Phil. She wants no more drama in her life, but I don't think she has let go of all of it. release, Mary, release! |
Quote:
I thought Mary J. was just seconds away from catching the Holy Ghost and breaking out the two step!!! I was like SANG Mary SANG |
Did anyone notice this...
the last award that they gave out... record of the year (i think). Well, U2 and India.Aire were both back stage when they announced their nominations. After they announced the winner... U2, India.Aire looked like she started to cry. But her face was turned away from the camera, the U2 guy with the glasses was holding her hand and reaching out to her. She kept backing away with her head down. I thought this was soooo sad. At that point she knew that she hadn't gotten not one award. They really screwed her over. I'm not taking anything away from Nelly F, Alicia K, or U2.. but India.Aire deserved something!!!
other comments: Dre was in his usual... as far as i'm concerned. I've seen that wig before. Why e'ry time "we" get an award, we assume that's an opportunity to plug!! Dre... the Outkast clothing line!?!??... not while you're dressed like a clown (literally) DC... actually sounds really good when Beyonce isn't taking the lead Of course they would NEVER let Patti sing any more than she did... did you hear her? Dem girls can't hang with Patti!! Mary... ripped it. IMO, Brittany looked stupid. Don't set a trend for taking your clothes off then... go "conservative". We all know that's not your style. |

Photos of Lady Marmelade singers for those who think it was Faith Evans
|
I missed some of the show, but this is my take on things. As usual, Pink looked like STRAIGHT TRASH!!!!!! Christina Aguilera is a little thicker, but she looked like she just walked in off somebody's corner (I know she was "playing a part", but she went a bit too far). Then again, I think she looks like a cross between a roach and an aardvark anyway. Its a good thing she can really sing. Surprisingly, Little Kim didn't look too bad. It was a very toned down look for her.
I thought Brittany Spears was really cute too. Although they usually get on my nerves, Destiny's Child looked wonderful and I really liked their song with Alejandro Sanz (?). Also enjoyed the Tony Bennet/Billy Joel duet. I loved N'Sync singing "Girlfriend". I love those guys!!!!!! I really wish India.Arie had won at least one award. She had such a good album. I like Alicia Keys and I think she is talented, but I don't think she is as great as everybody else does. Maybe she just has more crossover appeal. Okay, enough of my rambling. |

I watch some of the Grammy's but not much because I knew that this year it would be garbage. I mean, I liked the movie O Brother, Where Art Though too, but I am sorry, that "Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas" knock-off band should not have won best album of the year! AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!! |
I really hate that India.Irie didn't win at least one award. Her CD is great. 7 nominations and not one award. That was not cool:mad:
Alicia Keys won all those awards and only had two songs circulating the airwaves! I am so sick of "Fallin'' & "Woman's Worth"! |
Boo-Hiss...
First of all, the awards lasted TOO DANG LONG! They should have cut out most of that country music...Did y'all peep them playing the music when Alicia Keys and even U2 were giving their acceptance speeches?! I was BUSTING UP when they did it to Alicia, but come on--U2 are living legends...That ain't even right...
And then there was the guy rambling on about how we music fans are disconnected from the artists b/c we download their songs from Napster, Morpheus, etc. So what?! I could tape the song off the radio and share the tape w/ my friends--that's no different!! They SHOULD HAVE cut his azz off... I like John Stewart and all but he was too rehearsed. I swear, rich white folks will laugh at ANYTHING!! ;) And on the India Arie thing, that was just F****D UP!! Point Blank!! Seven nods and not one award...Let me have been in India Arie's shoes...I would've been like "FUDGE Y'ALL--I AIN"T PERFOMING A DANG THING?!" I'm sorry, but Alcia Keys did not deserve all those awards she won...I prefer India Arie over her anyday, but as we all know, it's those rich white men in the suits that make the decisions that (supposedly  ) represent "us"...To me it looks like U2's Bono was trying to make Indai Arie go out on the stage with them (which would expalin why she held her head down and pulled away from them)... |
Yaaa-Men! Can I get a witness...

OKAY!!! Come on now! The Grammys were NOT the place to put the public on blast. I am and will stay a faithful downloader :D The record companies are just mad because I have found a way for them NOT to make another $15.99-19.99 offa me. And I still do buy music when I feel like it or if I'm feeling the artist. I don't buy CD's unless I like half of it. I love me some Morpheus... In Service... Gamma Sigma Sigma Goes Golden...50 Years of Service: 1952-2002 |
As I think I've said on this board before.....
Pink looks like an STD!!! When I think of what the definition STD means in the dictionary, I envision a picture of PINK right there next to the definition! I thought that the whole Grammy's were just "WHACK". The host was horrible, the cue cards that the presenters had to read were not funny in the least. I was LMAO when that one group won an award and came up on stage with about 30 people. It looked like a white version of the Wu Tang Clan, winning an award and inviting their mommas and their baby's mommas onstage. I finally went to sleep. |
