University of Kentucky Fall 2013

Hello GC! I was a moderate user back in college, but went on a 3 year hiatus due to this silly thing called grad school. However, do not fear! I am back and chomping at the bit to know how UK recruitment is this year. Word on the street is that they are doing all of open house today and have...wait for it...TWENTY ONE (21!!!!!!ISDJFOSJGLDSFJGW^#%#) ROUNDS TODAY ALONE. I cannot even imagine.

Commence UK recruitment discussion.

UKMOM14 08-18-2013 08:04 PM

Yes, that is true. My daughter is a sophomore this year and when I talked to her today she said they have 1309 girls going through!!! They just finished for today. It's been a long day for sure but sounds like the girls are having fun!

Excited to see how her house does this year!

ThetaPrincess24 08-18-2013 08:45 PM

I have two references in UK recruitment this year. Both are legacies.

catfan 08-18-2013 09:59 PM

I have quite a few hometown girls rushing this year as usual. One is a sophomore, with stellar grades and a lot of campus activities. Does UK have an upperclass quota?

I honestly don't know. I don't remember it being something my chapter ever discussed explicitly. I know we usually had 3-6 sophomores in our 70-ish person NM classes. That's probably not very helpful!

Holy crap! If every girl makes it to preference, quota would be approximately 100.

I don't think that they do, but I would like to see them have one. Sophomores do get bids as do juniors, but it is a recruitment that highly favors freshman. They need to be a damn good upperclassman.

Bumping...
Any news from the Bluegrass? Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Sydney! Good to see you back. I always wondered what sorority you were in.

Word from my daughter's chapter is that quota is expected to come in around 80 +/-. A great showing! She said the weather was cooperative and the PMN's were really, really 1st rate. She said they could fill 2 pledge classes with fantastic girls. Successful on all fronts from the sound of it.

ThetaPrincess24 08-21-2013 08:49 PM

I know a quadruple legacy that got cut! Hopefully I was able to talk her mom in to talking to her daughter about staying in the game and not quitting because the legacy chapter released the daughter.

Bid day is today! I'll be trying to post in the bid day pics thread when I find some!

catfan 08-22-2013 02:00 PM

Just heard quota was 82!!! That's an Alabama or Ole Miss size pledge class. Way to go UK!

AOII Angel 08-22-2013 02:03 PM

82 NMs for AOII!

catfan 08-22-2013 02:10 PM

Great news AOII Angel

83 for Delta Gamma

APhiO&ADPiGal 08-22-2013 04:27 PM

82 for Kappa Kappa Gamma as well! :)

catfan 08-22-2013 04:58 PM

Anyone know where I can find the bid list?

ThetaPrincess24 08-22-2013 06:00 PM

Kentucky does not typically publish a bid list. At least not that I can remember. The sororities used to put articles in the Kernel about loving their new member classes and listing names there.

catfan 08-22-2013 06:05 PM

My sophomore rec girl pledged Alpha Gamma Delta! I thought that was were she might end up! Still waiting to find out where the other hometown girls pledged.

ThetaPrincess24 08-22-2013 06:18 PM

I can report Chi Omega got 83.

ThetaPrincess24 08-22-2013 06:19 PM

Kappa Alpha Theta got 83. I still dont know where my two rec. girls went.

UKMOM14 08-22-2013 06:26 PM

My daughter said that Pi Beta Phi has 82 new angels!!!

ThetaPrincess24 08-22-2013 06:41 PM

Alpha Gam got 84.

Aphigal 08-22-2013 07:01 PM

82 for Alpha Phi!!!

NewKySettler 08-23-2013 12:34 AM

Qupta was 82, but at UK, juniors who pledge are added in later. That is why some #s are coming in over quota. Has anyone heard about DZ, Phi Mu, Tri Delt or KDs?

UK's Greek system just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Back in 2003 when my daughter went through recruitment about 650 PNMs registered. Quota was something like 52. I cannot believe that was 10 yrs ago. Now I really feel old! ;-)

Tri Delt took 82.

That was great! Anyone know if every group made quota? 82 is A LOT!

WCsweet<3 08-23-2013 06:43 PM

So far we have the numbers for all chapters other than DZ and Phi Mu. All other chapters have made quota. I saw a few members tweet 85 for DZ, but that wasn't sent out from the chapter, so I'm not sure if it correct.

Gotcha. Phi Mu wasn't on campus when I was still there, but I would be floored if DZ didn't make quota.

WCsweet<3 08-23-2013 07:03 PM

Just so we have them here as well:

Alpha Delta Pi (82)
Alpha Gamma Delta (84)
Alpha Omicron Pi (82)
Alpha Phi (82)
Chi Omega (83)
Delta Delta Delta (82)
Delta Gamma (83)
Delta Zeta (85?)
Kappa Alpha Theta (83)
Kappa Delta (82)
Kappa Kappa Gamma (82)
Pi Beta Phi (82)

Looks like RFM works.

dzandiloo 08-23-2013 07:29 PM

I can confirm that DZ did get 85 new members @ UK!

sydney bristow 08-23-2013 10:13 PM

Did a quick instagram search of all the sororities' hashtags (#theta, #chio, etc) and found one of the Phi Mu pledge class. The image is tiny and too pixellated to upload here, but I counted around 45 girls.

APhiO&ADPiGal 08-24-2013 02:38 AM

From UK Phi Mu's Facebook:

I'm counting 45 NMs as well. While they are under quota, it seems like a lovely NM class! (and house, for that matter! I adore the color of the bricks..)

They are really cute! That's actually the Sigma Nu house, but Phi Mu lived in it last year and is again this year. Rumor is Phi Mu is building a new house, but who knows. I love how strong the Greek system at UK is these days!!!

That is my understanding as well.

Phi Mu is leasing the Sigma Nu house while the Phi Mu house is being built on Rose Lane. It is scheduled to be completed “early spring 2014”. While Sigma Nu just re-colonized (spring of 2013) my understanding is that they do not intend to move back into their house until fall 2014.

For what it is worth, I saw a few construction sites (at different stages) when I was in Lexington this summer. Phi Mu, FarmHouse and I believe one other fraternity are all building on Rose. I wasn’t sure which site belonged to which group, but the houses are moving along and should be completed relatively soon.
