Keep us posted!

I cannot wait to hear how this year's recruitment goes since most all chapters are in their lovely houses now. I'm jealous that members get to experience living in instead of having suites in the Panhellenic building. Post pictures please!

greekdee 08-19-2013 09:49 PM

One of my rec ladies is at Tennessee this year! I also have a son at Tennessee, my whole family wears orange and it's great to be a Tennessee Vol! Anything and everything about Tennessee gets me excited, but I'm especially hyped up this year because of the beautiful new sorority houses and because my rec girl, who I've known for years, is getting to see all of them. So excited to hear her results. :)

Girlmomx2 08-19-2013 11:10 PM

My girl is having a good experience so far !

IndianaSigKap 08-19-2013 11:34 PM

Wish I could be a recruitment crasher just to go on the house tours! Is that so wrong?

wsucalsigmakapp 08-19-2013 11:49 PM

I just checked out the houses, they are all so beautiful!!!

AXOrushadvisor 08-19-2013 11:54 PM

"I will not wear that gaudy orange, I will not. It is not my color wheel and I'm not gonna wear it."

Just love that saying.

southernbuff 08-19-2013 11:56 PM

AXO, my daughter and I constantly quote that movie too, but alas, I did wear that orange, even if it is not in my color wheel! Go Big Orange!

So do I!! The Blind Side is my very favorite movie EVER! How could it not be?

greekdee 08-20-2013 12:08 AM

Oh, Leigh Ann Tuohy would look great in Vol orange -- everyone does! :) I'm ducking for cover now.

Yep. It's just what you do.

They filmed the "Ole Miss" and "Briarcrest" scenes at at Atlanta International School and The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia because of tax breaks given to the film production. I still haven't gotten over that.

Let it be known that there is a long standing ban on on Vol Orange in my home, predating Leanne Tuohy. So much so that when we went to see "The Blind Side," my husband almost rolled laughing in the aisles when Sandra Bullock commented on not wearing orange. Everyone turned to look at him. You see, he thought I was the only one to have such restrictions!

TennesseeKD 08-20-2013 10:56 AM

From what I hear everything is going spectacularly and, despite a few little raindrops, the weather is certainly cooperating! The village is beautiful--if you're headed to a game you should certainly do a quick drive-through on your way to the stadium!

OT- I miss the Tennessee-Ole Miss rivalry from back in the day.

At our Bulldog home, if we do wear orange, we make sure to call it "persimmon" or "poppy". Never, never "orange"

I do too! When was the last game in the series played?

amIblue? 08-20-2013 11:20 AM

We last played in 2010, but I think the East-West division alignment in 1992 was what killed the rivalry. Tennessee lost Ole Miss and Auburn as regular opponents. That Auburn match up was a good one, too. If I had more time and desire, I would google further and find out the specifics, but I don't. At least Ole Miss and Tennessee can agree on thinking the Mannings are awesome!

MaryPoppins 08-20-2013 01:52 PM

The Mannings are awesome. Did you see their "Football On Your Phone," video?

tmat09 08-22-2013 02:01 PM

I know this is probably not the right place to post this, but since it is about the actual school, I hope it's okay. I am a Tennessee girl through and through and took a little time off of school after graduating. If I were to be a freshman next year and be 22, is that a recruitment no no?

ChioLu 08-22-2013 02:11 PM

You may not have as much in common with New Members that are 18, but it's not prohibited.

I was an upperclass New Member when I pledged and was 21 by the time I was initiated. About 1/4 of my pledge class was upperclass, so I did not feel out of place.

I mean this with no disrespect, but are you a Tennessee Chi Omega? I ask because I'm guessing that you may not be familiar with the campus culture based on how you described your chapter.

To the OP, some chapters at Tennessee pledge upperclassmen, but it's still primarily a freshman girl's game. It is a bit less competitive than some other SEC schools, but don't kid yourself that it's a walk in the park. Get recommendations for all chapters. More than one if you can. You are in the unique position of both being older and a freshman. I recommend that you proceed with recruitment and understand at the outset that some chapters may cut you because you are not the traditional PNM, but some will be more open to you. All thirteen chapters on campus are AWESOME, and they have HOUSES now! (My collegiate self is so jealous!)

Go Vols and GBO!

TennesseeKD 08-22-2013 04:25 PM

Ha! AmIBlue...love your "reason" for edit.

I second. When going through recruitment I would just gently remind everyone that, even though you are older, you still have a full four years to give! (If you will have a full four years to give, that is...)

tmat09 08-23-2013 07:29 PM

Is it common just to be cut all together?

It can happen, all depends on the individual circumstances. There are many, many factors that determine the outcome.

Girlmomx2 08-24-2013 11:34 AM

Today is preference and my rec girl has 2 chapters left, neither of which was a top favorite earlier in the week. I'm proud of her for keeping an open mind! I'm anxious to see what happens tomorrow.

My girl too! She ended up with 3 pref parties... Didn't think that was going to be the case earlier in the week... it seems to be Between her legacy from me and her Aunt. And another! I'm so Excited for her! This week has been a roller coaster! I wasn't sure how the Southerners would treat my Yankee sophomore transfer Legacy! I'm also proud of my girl for having an open mind, especially about her legacy...she was not impressed during the first round! :D

tmat09 08-25-2013 03:32 PM

Well, how did it go?

Girlmomx2 08-25-2013 04:33 PM

My rec girl is thrilled with her new home, and I'm excited for her! Pref can really be a game changer as she chose a chapter that she wanted to drop after first round! I've heard from various people that recruitment was not at all easy this year. Usually girls from our high school do well, but there were some surprising cuts and releases this year.

tmat09 08-25-2013 04:40 PM

That makes me super nervous for next year!

ZetaBeta 08-25-2013 05:15 PM

Anyone hear what quota was? I wonder if it's higher with the new houses.

Girlmomx2 08-25-2013 09:59 PM

Results I have seen so far:
Phi Mu 53
Sigma Kappa 62
Zeta 60
DG 60
ADPi 52
KKG 48
DZ 57
Alpha Chi Omega 54

Still trying to find out quota. Has anyone else heard?

LuvMyPNM 08-25-2013 10:25 PM

In the #'s thread earlier this week it was posted that 905 were rwgiatered. If above are true, that's less than 50% who started ending up with a bid.

Is that typical for this school?

tmat09 08-25-2013 10:28 PM

A friend of mine that went through recruitment said that they told her if you attended all the days you were guaranteed a bid from somewhere. I wonder how truthful that is.

That list is not comprehensive of all the chapters. There are a total of 13.

Huh? She was only listing results for a handful of chapters. It looks like quota was around 50ish. With 13 chapters, that would mean around 650-700 got bids.

If you attend every party to which you are invited AND you maximize your options by listing every chapter you preffed on your bid card, then you will most likely receive a bid. Girls can get cut prior to pref by all chapters.

WCsweet<3 08-25-2013 10:39 PM

Kappa Delta 52.

LuvMyPNM 08-26-2013 08:52 AM

Thanks -- that all makes sense.

TennesseeKD 08-26-2013 02:45 PM

Freshman quota was 40, upperclassman quota was 8. Total matched was 690/912. 75%. This seems a little low- quota last year was 52. I have the list if anyone wants me to check names! PM me.
