UCF Live Recruitment!
Hi everyone! So I thought it would be fun to do a live recruitment thread since Fall recruitment is going on right now at UCF. As some of you probably know there are 12 sororities at UCF, one being Gamma Phi Beta which is colonizing this year and which I'm not including in the code because it would be totally obvious which one it is! I'm a big lover of old Hollywood so I've given the 11 sororities code-names of old Hollywood actresses:
1. Katherine Hepburn 2. Grace Kelly 3. Marilyn Monroe 4. Clara Bow 5. Bridgitte Bardot 6. Barbara Lawrence 7. Audrey Hepburn 8. Elizabeth Taylor 9. Joan Crawford 10. Lauren Bacall 11. Bette Davis Hope you all enjoy! Greekchat has been a huge help to a little lurker like me in the months anticipating recruitment so I'm so excited to share my big week with you all! (P.S I typed this all up last night (Monday) but my account was stuck on probationary so I'm posting it this morning. Headed to UCF Day 2!) |
So recruitment technically started on Sunday, when we attended Greek Forum. It was so fun seeing the Rho Gammas all dressed up in their silly costumes! The skits were so funny and although sitting on the floor for two hours was killer on my backside, it got me so excited for the rest of the week!
Today (well, technically yesterday now that it's past midnight...silly me!) was UCF Day 1, and we each visited 6 houses. It was so long and tiring but everyone was super sweet and outgoing! My group visited: Marilyn Audrey Grace Bette Elizabeth and Clara! Marilyn, my first house, was SO beautiful! I've been lurking on GC long enough to have expected the door chants but they still blew me away! I was ushered in and greeted by a really lovely girl, we had a nice (albeit brief!) conversation. I was bumped to another girl who was also so nice! I couldn't find anything I didn't like about this house. Audrey was a house that I knew a few girls in, so I was definitely excited to see the inside. It was breathtaking! Although I didn't see the girls I was friends with, I did speak to one of their big sisters! These were definitely my best conversations of the day, they were really memorable and I especially remember the conversation being natural. This was my favorite house I visited. Bette was a house I'd definitely heard of, so I had an idea of what to expect, but I was blown away. These girls were breathtakingly gorgeous! It was intimidating, since the atmosphere in this house was much more poised and refined than the others. The girl rushing me didn't seem very interested in me, so it was definitely a confidence killer and I don't think I made for very good conversation. I won't be surprised if this house isn't on my schedule Wednesday, but I don't mind. :) Grace was next, and boy were we SWEATING by this house. It was 100 degrees at one point! Nevertheless we made the best of it, and we visited the Grace girls. This chapter doesn't have a house, but the girls were so excited it definitely made up for it. Unfortunately the girl I spoke to was pretty awkward conversation-wise, and I didn't feel a 'spark' here. Then again, it's only the first day! Next came Elizabeth, who also don't have a house, but they were all so sweet! I was double rushed here, the only time all day, which wasn't very fun since the member rushing us definitely paid more attention to the other girl. I still had a nice conversation though, and the girls all seemed so in love with their sorority it made me want to come back. Finally, (thank goodness!) came Clara, the last house of the day! This was the house I was most excited about visiting, since I'd done a little bit of research and found out their philanthropy is something very close to my heart! The girls here were SO laid back and sweet and diverse, I definitely adored this house. I can't say there are really any houses I dislike, thanks to GC advice I'm definitely just trusting the system, being myself everywhere, and hoping for the best! I'll update you all tomorrow after we finish visiting the next six sororities, including a presentation on Gamma Phi Beta which I'm so excited for! :) |
Good Luck to you! Sounds like you have a great attitude!
|
Hoping for cool breezes and lots more fun for you!
|
Hi everyone! So I just got back from UCF Day 2...my feet hurt! There was a breeze today so it was much easier than yesterday. Today we visited...
Joan Crawford Katherine Hepburn Lauren Bacall Brigitte Bardot and Barbara Lawrence! We also all visited Gamma Phi Beta and listened to them explain how they were going about colonization, which was so interesting! So first was Brigitte Bardot, and the girls were so sweet as they welcomed us in. I was so excited to see this house as I knew a few girls in it, and it was so pretty! The girls I spoke to were so friendly and they definitely made me feel welcome. From there we went to Katherine Hepburn, which is one of those houses everyone seems to know! My first impression of these girls was that they ALL adored their sorority, I'd say they definitely had the most spirit. Barbara Lawrence was next, and this house was so beautiful! The girl I spoke to was so sweet, one of the best conversations I had all day. She made me feel totally at ease and was so awesome when talking about how we should trust the system and find our home. I left pleasantly surprised as I really loved my conversation here as well! Next was Lauren Bacall, and oh my gosh I fell in LOVE with this house. The interior was so beautiful, my rusher and I had so much in common, and I totally felt at ease. I saw a few girls I knew as well, which was reassuring, and I left with a HUGE smile on my face! Finally we went to Joan Crawford, which is actually a house I am a legacy at! Unfortunately though I was disappointed by this party, as the girls who spoke to me weren't very enthusiastic and I was bumped 3 or 4 times. Thankfully, since I loved pretty much every house, we don't have to rank our houses yet today. Instead, we just say which 8 houses we would like to revisit (in no order) and rank our bottom three, from 1 (wouldn't mind revisiting) to 3 (don't want to go back). My bottom 3 were... 1. Joan Crawford 2. Bette Davis 3. Grace Kelly |
more please

I HAVE to ask...I realize it was not house tour day, but when you were at Joan Crawford, did you happen to see if there were any wire hangers in their foyer closets? (Sorry, very juvenile humor, but that movie is a camp classic)
|
FSUZeta and Katmandu, thank you so much!
Jess1994, I will update tomorrow after Philanthropy day! Sdtennisgal, That's one of my mom's all time favorites! I'll let you know after the room tours ;) |
Sdtennisgal, I almost did a spit take-lol!!
UcfPNM, Good luck tomorrow! |
I hope you have a great week and find your home! I won't root for a house in this story, because I have to hold out for Gamma Phi Beta! :)

As a UCF alum, I'm excited to see a UCF recruitment thread.
I'm hoping for a strong, great, first impression from my chapter, Chi O, at UCF! Good luck this week with the heat. Drink plenty of water, stay in the shade, and try and stay as cool as possible. This heat is killer. I drive by campus every day to work and I send you and all the PNMs cool wishes each day. I look forward to reading more! |
Poking my head in to say that when I went through recruitment, we only had 7 chapters! Blown away that round 1 is now 2 days long! :)
|
Thank you everyone for your kind words! I will be sure to update tomorrow ASAP! :)

Hello again! I just got home from Philanthropy Day, it was a blast! It started raining on us toward the end but thankfully I was able to stay pretty dry! Alright, so today I got my schedule. The maximum was 8 houses, and I only had 5. Kind of a bummer, but also kind of awesome because I got to sit inside the AC and have a break! I visited...
Grace Kelly Joan Crawford Katherine Hepburn Lauren Bacall and Barbara Lawrence! I was a little sad about being dropped from Audrey, but everything happens for a reason right? :) So off we went! I went to Barbara Lawrence first, and was so excited to see this house again! I spoke to a few girls and watched their philanthropy video, which was very touching. The girls were all very sweet, but I left feeling like this house was "out of my reach." It may have just been the kick in the confidence from only getting five houses, but I was definitely not feeling very comfortable here. Next I visited Joan Crawford, which I was determined to give a second chance because of my legacy. Turns out I actually really enjoyed it! The girls were lovely and their philanthropy is so sweet. I didn't absolutely LOVE this house, but I could definitely see myself growing into and learning to love this house. If that makes sense....hahaha! Third I went to Lauren Bacall, and immediately I was overwhelmed again by how much I adore their house. These girls are so sweet, so much like me, their philanthropy is AMAZING and something I totally connect with (I cried!) and I. Am. In. Love. I walked out of this house with a big dumb smile on my face. Toward the end of the day I went to Katherine Hepburn, which, again, is one of those houses EVERYONE knows. I was really shocked to have received an invite, if I'm being honest! The women were so nice and their house was beautiful, but as I looked around the group touring with me I realized I was definitely not in the same financial ballpark as these girls. We got trapped a little because of the rain and I didn't really even know how to talk to them! I don't know anything about designer bags or clothing, and I felt very uncomfortable and a little embarrassed. You know those moments when you look at your clothing and think, "Oh god, I'm out of my element..." it was definitely one of those times. FINALLY I went to my last party, Grace Kelly. I went in very open minded but had the same reaction as the previous day. Very "meh," no one talking to me seemed very interested, and their philanthropy video didn't click with me. At the end of the day, we were to choose six houses and rank our bottom two. Since I only attended five, I just chose all of them! We'll see what my schedule says tomorrow. It wasn't the easiest day and it was definitely sort of a confidence blow but I'm basically hoping and praying I see Lauren Bacall and Joan Crawford on my list for tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me! xo |
I'm voting for Lauren and Joan. I won't lie, I'm a sucker for continued legacies.
|
I hope so too! I love your attitude. Best of luck and can't wait to hear from you tomorrow.
|
Get lots of sleep, hydrate. Good luck!
|
I was wondering if you guys got caught in the rain! It's supposed to rain again tomorrow, so be prepared!
I'm glad you kept an open mind and enjoyed your day overall! |
WCsweet, your signature definitely resonated with me just now. Thank you all! I'll update again tomorrow :)
|
Wishing you the best of luck also! Try and get some sleep tonight if you can :)!! Looking forward to hearing from you tomorrow!
|
Fingers crossed for you! I hope you have a great day tomorrow!
|
Good luck :)
|
I have a good friend in ADPi there, good luck.
|
They're on my schedule!! :D phew!
|
But don't listen to a thing that jazing (a male) says about anything to do with recruitment. Good luck today. Not doubting he has an ADPi friend, but he offers terrible advice about SORORITY recruitment (could it be because he is a male, so he has never gone thru sorority recruitment?), and has been asked multiple times to stay in his lane.

Hi everyone! I just have to thank you all SO much for your messages, they are making this entire process so much less overwhelming :) So, as you all know, since I was too excited NOT to post this morning, I visited...
Lauren Bacall Joan Crawford and Grace Kelly First I was off to Joan Crawford, and again I was trying to like this house with all my heart. I walked in and was immediately greeted by familiar faces, and as their video played I felt myself becoming more and more connected to this chapter. I was laughing, crying, clapping along, and picturing myself in the photos and videos. I left and texted my friends, "I LOVE Joan Crawford!" I had such wonderful conversations with the girls and decided 100% I would be overjoyed in this chapter. Next I visited Grace Kelly, and in the spirit of honesty I wasn't looking forward to it. I'd tried to connect with this chapter but the girls I spoke to and I had nothing in common, they were slightly talking down about other chapters, and I felt pretty uncomfortable again. But I left excited, because it was time for... Lauren Bacall!!! I walked into this house with the BIGGEST grin on my face, I was absolutely enamored once again by the house as we went on the tour. The first girl I spoke to was so sweet as she walked me through, the video made me cry and I was covered in goosebumps throughout the whole thing. The next girl I spoke to was, like, my soulmate. We shared so many common interests and were laughing so hard as we strayed away from the typical "rush" conversation and into the kinds of things friends joke about! That was the definite thing at this house, I felt like they were already my best friends. We were the last to walk out by a while, and as I left I was completely head over heels again. This house is definitely my number 1, but as I said I could definitely see myself in Joan Crawford as well. I spoke to my Rho Gamma and she recommended I list all three houses, so I did. I didn't make for very interesting conversation at Grace Kelly so I'm thinking they won't ask me back. Again, crossing my fingers that I see Joan Crawford and Lauren Bacall tomorrow on my Pref night schedule!! Thank goodness tomorrow I get to sleep in a little bit, I am exhausted. Here we go!! |
I take it that UCF PNMs attend 2 pref. parties?
Best wishes that you see Joan and Lauren on your list tomorrow! |
Hang in there, and hydrate! It's so exciting to read your live story. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow!
(but there's always Gamma Phi....;)) |
Yay! I keep looking for your updates. Try to get some sleep tonight and stay hydrated. Good luck!
