You might want to add Sorority Sisters by Claudia Welch. It's pretty good, and represented a lot of different facets of (NPC) sorority life well, I thought.

You can add it! The list is user populated.

Southern Ladies And Gentlemen, by Florence King
PS it wouldn't add it for some reason. |
LOVE Florence King; some of her stuff is hilarious! I haven't read "Southern Ladies and Gentlemen", though so thanks for the heads up, MaryPoppins!
|
Another Florence King fan checking in! Loved her
Southern Ladies and Gentlemen and Wasp, Where Is Thy Sting?. You know the characters, it's so good to see somebody describe them so well. |
Just got Sorority Sisters from the library. Is the author a sorority alumna?

Written by a good friend and founding father of the UCF Pi Kapp chapter! :) |
Claudia Welch is an Alpha Phi. I believe she is from USC.

MaryPoppins, I rank Florence King up there with John Kennedy Toole for laugh-out-loud moments. Love the passage from SLAG where she talks about Uncle Cary taking his cat to the vet.

I wish I could name some good titles involving (fictional) NPHC orgs. Sigh.

I just finished Sorority Sisters. I've got to rain on this parade...I just didn't like it. The chapter-by-chapter rotating first person writing style was confusing...I kept going back to check the chapter titles to remind myself which character was narrating. It also annoys me when an author writes witty, sarcastic banter that isn't really very witty, then self-congratulates by having characters comment on how funny the speaker is.
The parts I liked were: describing Monday night formal dinner/meetings, the clueless housemother, the panty raid, and the ongoing feud with the sorority next door. I would have liked a lot more of that, and less "yet another sister dumped by yet another guy and now their lives are lonely and sad...and they're still sad years later" and "here's where each sister is sitting at the table and what they're wearing" and getting a semester-by-semester report on who was rooming with whom, where their room was located, etc. There really wasn't a plot...it was a "bed to bed" story. |

There's also "Be My Sorority Sister Under Pressure" but I forget the author. You KNOW I'm there for ATSB. In retrospect, I may have been inspired to write my rush/intake story bc of it. I'd find it hard to write a fictional story removed from my own org, but I've considered writing a series. So maybe look out for it? |
