Dark pink dress help?

Beloved granddaughter needs a dark pink dress for recruitment. No sequins, not strapless or halter, no "body con" (whatever that is). I have searched and searched, she has searched and searched; everything is either too formal or not formal enough.

Does anybody have a special place that they look for something like this?

Thanks!

Tulip86 06-13-2013 03:03 PM

www.asos.com really has a ton of options, they let you filter by color as well.

some of my favorites are this one and this one as well.
This one is pretty, but quite expensive, as is this one.

And what kind of pink is dark pink? More towards purple? Or more fuchsia?

KDCat 06-13-2013 03:11 PM

Dress shopping!

Are these too bright?

I'll show her these! Dark pink as in what I used to call hot pink; she has a swatch to match. She's almost 5'10", all legs, so anything labeled "mini" would need pants (I haven't looked at all of them, don't even know if any of them are labeled as such.)

Thank you, thank you.

edit..

The one at Mod Cloth, I've been trying to get her to order; it looks perfect to me. The Lily ones are beautiful, but the dress has to be solid color, no lace or crochet look. I told her she needs to get on her chapter's FB page and see where some of the girls are looking, she said she trusts y'all more. The one at Macy's is sold out in her size. That seems to be part of our story.

WCsweet<3 06-13-2013 04:02 PM

I was going to suggest modcloth. I bought my graduation dress there and love it.

Some options I saw. I'm not sure if these fit of course and I'm short so the idea of things being too short is foreign.

If you look on the Nordstrom, Dillard's, or Macy's website, you can choose the color to narrow the search. There's a nice Ralph Lauren one at Nordstrom, for example.

This dress might be too spendy and/or too fancy, but it's pretty:

I love the back on this one. I always love a racer back though-- but it's still feminine. :)

DubaiSis 06-13-2013 05:45 PM

I love that eshakti dress. Did you notice it's customizable? It's a little bridesmaid'y, but the price is great, and if she wants to adjust the length and the sleeve, even the neckline, she can! Frankly I think I'd be suggesting that to her sisters and they can each have the size shape and style they want for low cash and a consistent look.

I also liked this one

You can do it with or without the embellishment if the roses are a bit much for you.

(The picture post is not working right, so hopefully you can use the link to find the dress)

GratefulGramma 06-13-2013 06:36 PM

Oh, I'm loving some of those! I have emailed her to come over here and look at them. Love the J.Crew one, it is expensive but they have it in her size. Love, love the ones you can customize! You can even give your height!

Thank you, thank you!

GratefulGramma 06-13-2013 10:22 PM

She has been over and looked through the links; there are several that she has forwarded on to the "committee" for approval. They said they will be VERY ticky this year, and she is believing them Yes, she could do it herself, but this has always been something we enjoy doing together.

We are so very grateful (and greatful, too)..lol

KDCat 06-13-2013 11:00 PM

Good luck!

They really should have given the sisters more choice in the shade of pink that they're wearing. I love hot pink/dark pink but I look like a zombie in it. Rose and light pink are much more flattering to me. There's a pink for everyone, but that isn't it.

Some days I'm glad that I don't have to shop for recruitment clothes anymore.

adpiucf 06-14-2013 12:08 AM

never heard of eshakti before... has anyone ordered from them? What is the quality like?

AOII Angel 06-14-2013 12:20 AM

Eshakti has good quality, but it takes awhile since everything comes from India. You really need to measure like they want because it is really difficult to tell how things will fit. I bought several dresses two years ago for Convention. Every dress fit totally differently. I still have them.

I guess you didn't notice it says "Temporarily out of stock" :(

GratefulGramma 06-14-2013 11:38 AM

They did give the girls a choice; light, medium or dark. BG chose the dark; she is rather fair skinned and thought the dark would go with her skin tones better. With makeup, she has striking coloring and incredible eyes.

I think we have been looking at dresses that are too dressy; pref is black cocktail dresses, but the pink is for another occasion. I still really like that one ModCloth dress and have urged her to 1)look at it more closely, and 2) contact the committee to see just how dressy it needs to be. She will be wearing nude heels with it.

Body-conscious, as in, so short and tight that you can't sit down.

(Thanks for the visual, KK)

The usage of that term always tickles me since it's so fashion-y. I think we would have just called them "slut dresses" and been done with it.

GratefulGramma 06-14-2013 12:46 PM

Oh gag! Slut indeed. BG is very modest, there would be no fear with her, but a couple of her sisters... not so much.

It sounds perfect for her!

This dress from Amazon might work better. It's a little more casual.

And this one from the Gap is more casual and cheap!

This is from the Red Dress Boutique in Athens, Ga. It is currently out of stock, but it appears that they might get more in at some point: (the girl modeling the dress is 5'9")

GratefulGramma 06-14-2013 07:26 PM

I never would have thought of Lands End! Several of those are adorable, and of course I'd bet she would love the one that's out of stock. She will be back over here either later this evening or tomorrow (they live across the street), and we'll look at those.

This has been so hard, but you ladies are making it so much easier! I don't want anybody to think that her mom isn't interested, but this seems to be a gramma/BG project. Her mom is right with us, but has two other kids that take time, too.

thetalady 06-14-2013 08:35 PM

Are you kidding, GG?? I am envious of your grand daughter! Sounds like you two have a really wonderful relationship! You don't have to explain it to us :)

DubaiSis 06-14-2013 09:08 PM

For a bit more casual, I really like that one from Old Navy. But I'd double check they're ok with eyelet. That hot pink is really my color so I keep saying Ooooh, I want that one. Oooh, I want that one!

Sciencewoman 06-14-2013 09:16 PM

I have a dark pink knit dress from Lands End that I absolutely love. It would be perfect, but it's from a couple seasons ago.

GratefulGramma 06-14-2013 10:06 PM

The eyelet one from Old Navy is adorable in person; I know this because BG wore it as a bridesmaid dress in her best friend's wedding on Memorial Day. Their dresses were navy.

She could give the store a call to see when they think it will be restocked-maybe the timing would work out for her.

As a mom, I would take this as a total win. She's happy and you are having fun, and she is getting the help she needs to find the right dress.

Missouri Ivy 06-15-2013 12:18 PM

I also have the Lands End fit and flare dress. It's super comfortable, but it was a little lower in the front than I had expected.

GratefulGramma 06-15-2013 02:14 PM

Well, I called it; she loves, loves that one that's out of stock. They are only open Mon-Fri (guess it's strictly online) but we will call them on Monday. She did find a really cute white one for those "white-out" football games. We found one that looks absolutely the same to me at another online boutique, but she's afraid it isn't exactly the same. I kind of think it is.

This is the one that is in stock, different boutique http://www.southernflair.com/everly-...dress-magenta/

ZTA1550 06-15-2013 02:16 PM

GratefulGramma, I just have to say that you're the coolest Gramma EVER. I'm sure your granddaughter TOTALLY appreciates you!

GratefulGramma 06-15-2013 02:20 PM

Oh, that's so sweet! She and her family are all I have; I lost my son 4 1/2 years ago, and my husband 3 years ago. My extended family has always been prone to live "in each others' pockets" and my daughter is extremely gracious in letting me share her children. When the two girls got home from church camp last week, she brought the oldest one to me immediately. The youngest was sick with a cold, and wanted to go home, but ended up back over here the next day for the rest of the weekend.

Right now, my daughter is in the back part of my house on the treadmill, the youngest is upstairs playing on the Wii, and the oldest is watching recorded segments of "Criminal Minds" about 10 feet away from me.

GratefulGramma 06-15-2013 02:41 PM

Oh, argh! I called the actual store, they have TWO size mediums. BUT they won't take phone orders from the store and ship, anymore. I can't get to Athens. I guess I'll call their online division on Monday, and just pray that they will be restocking.

LOL....it looks the same to me too. Have her look at the necklines of both dresses-they look the same, as do the sleeves. And the manufacturer or the "style" of the dress is Everly for both dresses. I vote that you order the one from Southern flair-she can always send it back.

Just took a quick look thru the Southern Flair website-tell Granddaughter that they have many of the same dresses that Red Dress Boutique sells. I am impressed that you all found another one!

GratefulGramma 06-15-2013 03:10 PM

LOL...thank you, she accepted your opinion even though not mine. We have ordered the one from Southern Flair.

FSUZeta 06-15-2013 04:10 PM

Hooray!! I hope it fits well and looks just like it does in the photo!

GratefulGramma 06-15-2013 09:27 PM

Thanks, so do I. Southern Flair has already sent a shipping notice; I know it really won't be mailed out until Monday, but I am impressed.

FSUZeta 06-16-2013 09:29 AM

Well, you have to come back and tell us all about it, please!

That's how it works! ;) Just say "FSUZeta said" or "(insert GC member name here) said" or PM us and we'll post your opinion as ours and that will be that.

Played this game before. You gotta do what you gotta do. It's okay! :p

ETA that is a darling dress and I am now thinking about doing some shopping based on all the suggestions. And don't forget about Zulily. I have picked up some darling things very reasonably priced. But if you see it, BUY IT. The sales last about three days max and things sell out.

KDCat 06-16-2013 11:22 AM
