Miss America 2014
Miss Missouri 2014- Shelby Ringdahl. Kappa Alpha Theta at TCU. She was just crowned this evening.
Miss Oklahoma is Kelsey Griswold, a Gamma Phi Beta from our Oklahoma City chapter!
Miss Alabama 2013, Chandler Champion (isn't that a great name?) is a Zeta Tau Alpha at Bama.
I read there were 3 Gamma Phi Betas in the Top 10 of the Miss Oklahoma pageant. G Phi represeeeent!
Most of the State pageants for Miss America are in June, so I'm sure will be adding to this list.
And, OF COURSE, Miss Oklahoma (America) is GREEK. Almost always is!!! |
(Here I throw in a shoutout for the current Miss America, Mallory Hagan, who's a Pi Phi from my chapter!) :D:D:D
The 2012 Miss Texas America is Danae Couch, a Kappa Alpha Theta from Baylor.
The 2013 Miss Texas competition happens soon and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Meagen Morrison, an ADPi from Sam Houston State. I'm sure there are many other Greek contestants--hopefully one of us will win Miss Texas and go on to Miss America! |

There is at least one Kappa Alpha Theta competing in this weekend's Miss Kentucky pageant. If she wins, there will be four Thetas in the pageant!
Actually, I just looked it up - Alyson will be competing for Mrs. America, not Miss. The competition is for married women only! The way Gamma Phi's Facebook page reported it, it seemed like Miss America. Either way, congrats to Alyson!

Remember when the Miss America Pageant used to be such a big deal when it aired? Kind of like the annual showing of the Wizard of Oz. (This was before videotapes, kids.)
It was a highlight of the new school year. I remember slumber parties planned around it. (The pageant, not Wizard of Oz. I was terrified of those flying monkeys.)
In those old days when, if you missed a tv show, you missed a tv show until when and if it was ever shown again (remember Cinderella?). And there were only five channels and color tvs were a new fangled invention.
Remember how the contestant's gown would be described to the television audience as she promenaded down the runway-for you young'uns this was before color TV. I was a little girl, not more than a toddler really, and I could tell my mother what color dress each girl had on-I guess I could distinguish the different shades on the black and white TV and from that determine what color the dress was. I batted a thousand on my color announcements.

Miss America was an event that my Mom and I would sit and watch.....it was THE event we looked forward to. I remember the years that Heather Whitestone and Tara Holland won most clearly....don't remember why, but they've ranked as two of my favorites in the two decades or so of me watching, along with Laura Kaeppler. It's been fun watching friends of mine compete at Miss Nevada in the past couple of years...and they've had fun doing it.

I think I remember that book. The main character had a sister who was a senior and perfect, and they lived in a rich neighborhood but the mom worked as a cleaning lady. A kid at the high school died.
