Real World-Chicago

Premieres January 15th on MTV

Steeltrap 12-28-2001 03:10 PM

I've already seen the site. There are two people of color on there, Theo (male) and Anneesa (sp?) (female).

I hope that Theo will turn out more like Kevin from New York or Mohammed from San Francisco, rather than the L.A./N.O. Davids, Boston's Syrus or Seattle's Stephen. Then again, he may not get a lot of TV time, LOL.

The "bad black guy" stereotype in "reality TV" is unsurprising but still wearisome.

volgirl2376 12-28-2001 03:11 PM

Is it just me or do all the little blonde girls look very "tv"?

ClassyLady 12-28-2001 03:16 PM

It seems like they're rushing for this season. The last one in New York was pretty short and uneventful. It just ended like a month ago and now there's going to be another one on in a few weeks.

Real World is getting to be the same thing over and over again. The same stock characters only with different faces. Same script, different cast. The success of the show has given the producers the idea that they need to stick to the same formula for continued success. What they need to do is stick to the original concept and pick seven different types of people, not just different from each other, but different from the past seasons as well.

squirrely girl 12-29-2001 08:38 PM

as much as the show bores me. i'd love to be on it. if only for the nice house for a couple of months

marissa

lil_sunshine 01-03-2002 03:23 PM

You ain't said nothin' but a word, squirrely girl! I, too, would like to be on that show, but I have to graduate from college first. I'd like to live in either Philly (my 1st choice), ATL, DC or Charlotte. Anywhere but here in NYC would be a welcome change!!! :D I'd love to see how I'd interact with six other people that live with me. I think it would be an interesting experience....

Sue_XO 01-03-2002 03:30 PM

They are already setting it up for that in the commercial- the blonde girl says- "you're scaring me" and then the camera shoots right to Theo.

Oh, my. I knew there was a reason why I don't watch MTV much anymore, besides the fact that I'm too old for their target demographic.

I'm too old for their target demographic, and I'm still in college. I don't think I could enjoy the Real World-Chicago. I feel like it just started going downhill with Seattle.

Steeltrap 01-04-2002 02:23 PM

The only Real Worlds I really liked were the first NY season, San Francisco (my all-time favorite) and Miami. London I didn't watch much, Boston irritated me (even with my Soror Kameelah), so did Seattle.

I lived in a "Real World-"style situation in 1989 with nine other folx for a post-graduate program. Big house near the UC-Berkeley campus. We had our share of tension.;)

TempleAlum1993 01-09-2002 10:35 AM

Am I the ONLY 1.....

:o Last night's preview was AWFUL.....Coral & Mike?......I'm getting that feeling that this cast will end up with the title "Worst Real World Cast/House".

WenD08 01-09-2002 12:03 PM

TempleAlum, i'm there witcha:rolleyes: i think we have another Black male freak on the loose. my Tuskegee friends will be so proud:eek: Aneesa is another Ruthie, a lesbian who can't seem to keep clotheds on(?!). the white folks, well...you know the drill...get some licquor in 'em combined w/hormones, yadda, yadda. this may be as dull as London:p

That's putting it mildly. It's like MTV put a spell on the Barbie aisle at Target and they came to life. :p

skeeliteful 01-09-2002 11:03 PM

A friend of mine went to Orlando for the casting call for Real World 12--Las Vegas and she said the exact thing about the white girls looking "tv". If they had a shag hair cut, they were picked, including a former beauty pageant winner. She also said as far as the black men that made the cut (only 2) one was a Lenny kravitz look-alike (hello!) and the "angry black man who just wants to represent" brotha was picked. And one black woman was picked. So yeah...MTV is staying the same, picking the same people, getting the same results as far as drama..."see what happens when people stop being polite..." yeah been there, done that.

 I don't understand how MTV can call it reality TV when they are just picking people to fill the roles they created. C'mon, it's so obvious already.

Hmmmmm, I wonder what societal issue that will be tackling this time. Let's see, they did AIDS, homophobia, racism, alcoholism, abortion, sexual harrassment (David vs Tammy), interracial dating... Need I go on?

But hey, if there's any drama going on, I'm usually watching. OK!?! ;)

AKA2D '91 01-13-2002 12:27 AM

Doesn't it seem as if EVERY OTHER month there is a NEW RW? Seem like back in the day, you had to wait 6 months or so before the NEXT season came on. I think MTV needs to let this show go. After I saw ole girl start taking her clothes all off in front of the camers, I don't think I'm gonna watch this. I don't care how "comfortable" you are.

The first season was great, but now, it's OLD AND TIRED.

Let it Go, MTV...just let it GO!

CrimsonTide4 01-15-2002 11:56 PM

ANNEISA HAS ISSSUUUUUUUUUUUES

Not only is Anniesa like GAY IN PROGRESS!!  but her azzzzzzz wants THEO. I never get in the shower with a man I don't want to :p :p .

Her relationship with Theo is going to be off the hook.

kiml122 01-16-2002 12:09 AM

Not that I had to log on to the computer to talk about this right now!!

First and formost I am not feeling that open bathroom. It is just toooo open to everyone and everything. 2nd I agree with CT4, that girl Anessa wants Theo, why else would she get the hell in the shower with him.

Why does she just have to be naked like all the damn time. Ok she is very open about her body and has no hang ups, but damn I was watching on TV and didn't want to see what I saw.

This season will definitely be a season that they know nothing about what it means to be drama free.

This will be a drama filled Real World. I have only seen over the past 11 sets of RW, a few here and there and am DETERMINED to watch this whole series. Has there ever been 2 gay people on RW?!?!

I am glad that Theo and Anneisa get along. I wanted to read the poem he wrote about her.

ClassyLady 01-16-2002 01:51 AM

Nope, CT4, to my knowledge this will be the first season with two gay people on it.

I am not feeling this one at all. Why is everyone bathing with everyone else on their first day in the house together???? If the girl Cara is straight, why is she getting hot and steamy in the shower with Aneesa. She'll probably end up getting kind of freaky with her just like Kaia and Ruthie from RW Hawaii.

And, Aneesa, I am not feeling her either. I don't care how comfortable you are with you and your body. Nobody wants to watch you walk around naked every day. Is MTV trying to have themselves another Ruthie, a lesbian who can't stay dressed? If so, they need to try another angle because this one's tired. Now as far as her and Theo, I don't think she wants him. I think she put it perfectly herself. She likes to flirt with Theo because it gives her a power trip. She has something that he wants and she knows that she's not gonna give it to him. She is just dangling a piece of cheese in front of a rat. (Wonderful1908 has me thinking of rats and cheese after talking about Brandy on another thread)

kiml122 01-16-2002 08:20 AM

When I was watching the show I was saying to myself that I think this is a first for RW to have 2 gay people on the same show.

Also is it me, or does Theo sound like MC Hammer. The entire episode I kept saying damn that sounds like Hammer.

Did you see the previews for the coming season, there is going to be so much jumping off that it'snot going to be funny.

DST Love 01-16-2002 11:02 AM

No this is not the first time. Ruthie and Justin on RW 8 Hawaii were both gay. They just didn't follow Justin's life too much.

This will be the first time that I will not be watching RW. It gets worse and worse and more typical. The first two were real good, but it's been down hill since then. Just like Heather from RW 1 said, it's like everyone on each cast is trying to act in a way they think they should and it's no longer "real". Also, MTV is making me angry with these stereotypical black men they are casting. You know, the angry, violent, womanizing Black men that only mess with white women (well that's what I could tell from previews of the season). They will never cast another Kevin from RW 1. He was keepin' it real too much for their taste.

kiml122 01-16-2002 12:16 PM

DST Love ,

Dang I forgot all about Justin and Ruthie. You are right they didn't focus to much on Justin, which is probably the reason I forgot about him and the fact that they were boring.

spelgrad00 01-17-2002 12:07 AM

I personally think that Aneissa thrives on the attention. She's gay but she flirts with a man that wants her but obviously can't have her. I'm hetero and I don't think I would flirt with a gay woman that was interested in me just because it's "fun". Then she tells Theo to sleep in her bed because "she needs to sleep with something in her bed, even if it is a stuffed animal because it makes her feel safe". Hmmmm, if you know that about yourself Aneissa, why didn't you bring your stuffed animal along to the Real World house. I don't know about you but I think Aneissa's riding the fence on the sexuality issue.

I don't know if we can compare her flirting with someone straight with a straight person flirting with someone gay. It's sooo different because of the social stigmas attached. I did not see the show and can't judge, but I have known some people like that so thought I'd addd my .08 cents....

volgirl2376 01-17-2002 11:11 AM

Ok, I think this is hysterical. I saw the "this season on the real world"...where Tonya is walking really fast and saying she is leabing the show. I mean I know you cant help where you live, but how can she possibly say so dramatically "Im going back to Walla Walla" and not crack up laughing :D

kiml122 01-30-2002 08:27 AM

Ok I had to bring this back up after viewing last nights episode. I have said this before, and I have to say it again.....there is going to be a ton of drama going on.

So I ask, is Tonya coming back from Walla Walla and finish the show, or will she just punk out because she is really home sick and missing her boyfriend. That girl has some problems, and it's not just a kidney infection.

CrimsonTide4 01-30-2002 08:36 AM

Real World REALLY SUCKS

Now i see why I never watch a full season because this isht is irritating. I know if I were on right now, they could bite me on that lifeguarding job because I cannot swim. I can float my ass off but that is about it. Cara did not try and her excuse was wack but whatever. I hollered though @ THEO and his HELL NO when it came to getting more swimming help. I would be right with Theo -- going to work @ a clothing store or something.

Anyway Miss Tanya and her issues. Okay she is a foster child who went in the system as a 12 year old and does not have a birth certificate?!!?!? How did she get into college?!?!

I feel bad about this Kidney Infection but I remember my summer camp woes and trying my damnedst to leave/run away, etc. only because it was too close to home.

snuggles12 01-30-2002 10:12 AM

When the Walla Walla girl was leaving the house to go to the airport, there was red paint all over the door. Did anybody else notice it?

I wondered about that as well.

kiml122 01-30-2002 11:34 AM

Yes I saw the red paint as well. I was thinking to myself if someone had sprayed their door or something.

CT4 now that you bring up the birth cert thing. I was asking myself that same thing last night. How is she as old as she is and still not have a damn birth cert?

I was falling out laughing at Theo when he was like "Hell No" I'm not getting any lessons. I would have been right with him. First off who the hell wants to be a lifeguard, that ish is hard. I know that I have had first aid training and CPR training and it's not as easy as they made it out to be last night. I know damn well I wouldn't have wanted to be no life guard.

Oh also did anyone notice how the lifeguard was like straight up with them last night and wasn't taking any stuff from them. When he was going back and forth with Cara I was falling out. They also looked like they could care less about Walla Walla girls excuses.

One last thing....I think Tonya will be known as the Walla Walla girl from now on.

LMAO . . . oh, so Walla Walla girl isn't her real name?

I am hardly even watching this season of Real World. I totally forget that the show is even on. I remembered last night but I only saw bits and pieces of it.

Anyway, I really don't like this season of the Real World and I'm starting to get fed up with the entire show. Maybe I should start a letter writing campaign to MTV.

Tonya needs to give it up. Are the best kidney doctors in the world located in Walla Walla, Washington? I guess no doctors in Chicago even know where the kidneys are. If you just wanted to go home to see your man, then that's all you have to say. Don't be embarrassed.

As for the whole lifeguarding thing, I would have asked if I could offer them some help in the office because I would have been of no help in the water. I can swim but I'm not about to be getting my hair wet. Not after I sat in that beauty shop for all of those hours. Cara should have just said she couldn't swim well before they started and she wouldn't have gotten cursed out.

Is this lifeguarding mandatory? Because three out of the seven roommates didn't make it. And, Theo and Cara said they weren't going to try again.

snuggles12 01-30-2002 01:31 PM

"Is this lifeguarding mandatory? Because three out of the seven roommates didn't make it. And, Theo and Cara said they weren't going to try again"

I think MTV should had chosen another job for the cast instead of lifeguarding. Lifeguarders must be good swimmers, so that eliminated those cast members who are not strong swimmers. I'm sure MTV has a backup job or will make sure the cast members get another job.

Walla Walla girl needs some serious help. I can't believe this girl doesn't have a birth certificate. If she was in foster care after age 11 and lived with her birth mother up until that time, she needs to visit her state's department of records and get one.

prayerfull 01-30-2002 02:56 PM

OK Walla Walla chick.....

I'm adopted and I have a birth certificate. If you're now 18 (or older) and you've been in the foster care system since you were 11, the Foster Care agency would have had your birth certificate. Whoever your foster parents are, they should have your birth certificate. They would have needed it to register you for school, college, etc.

She tripped me out when she was in that spa talking about "any girl would kill to have her body". She seems to have some serious emotional problems. Obviously, her birth mother was a mess and then she must have been put into a foster care home where she was rather priveleged.

I think that Aneesa is going to kick her a$$ before long. Why in the world does she have to travel back to Walla Walla to see a doctor? Call your doctor and have him call you up a prescription to the nearest pharmacy in Chicago.

She had me bugging out ever since the first show when she got on the train with Theo and was like "Oh.....He's Black"!

Miss Cara is a little HOT. She was like "yeah...there's an implied promiscuity when you go on 3 dates in one week"...honey it's not that you went on 3 dates in one week, it's that you slept with 2 of them and one of them you had only met a few hours before.

kiml122 01-30-2002 03:08 PM

Walla Walla is straight retarded and she must think that we are all too. She said that she had to return home because she couldn't use her insurance card there. Now I'm thinking if you go to the emergency room, what does that have to do with it? When you go out of town and you have to go to the emergency they take your insurance. Another thing is, you mean to tell me that her insurance can only be used in Walla Walla...see that is retarded. That's as bad as her simple azz not having a birth cert.

Classylady I feel you on the not getting your hair wet thing. I wish I would. ;)

delph998 01-30-2002 06:06 PM

Walla Walla

I noticed the paint too. And secondly, do you all think she was putting on a front about her kidney issue? I personally felt bad for the girl.

HAD TO SAY IT!!!!

Urbane 01-30-2002 07:02 PM

Walla Walla = Whiner!

1st, don’t you need to prove identity to get a social security card like a birth certificate or something very close? She makes it seem… oh, I’m “adopted” , it’s impossible to find my records! Plus, apparently she's never worked before and lives off the rich boyfriend and/or her adoptive family! So her sob story... i'm adopted... i've had a hard life... i'm not really feeling it.

I may be wrong but didn't she also say something about being athletic when they first met(or was that one of the other girls). Regardless, I think when she realized how hard those laps were she conveniently cried “kidney infection”. Didn’t she say that she’s been dealing with this infection for a while? If so, why get in the water and attempt it… if you “know your body so well”?

And Cara... let's not tip toe around the issue... she's a freak. LOL!!

skeeliteful 01-30-2002 07:12 PM

As far as the paint on the door, I read in an article that there were protester's outside the apartment protesting the fact that 2 homosexual's were living there. I believe either "dork" or another derogatory (sp) word was painted on the door.

I'm not feelin ms. walla walla. She whines, complains, and has a few too many issues to deal with. Coming from smallville, usa to chi-town was probably too overwhelming for her...homegirl started crying cause the airport was an hour away! get a grip! And i think Aneesa is gonna put the smack down on her if she keeps complaining....in other words, she should stay home.

And Cara...I understand she wants to get her flirt on and wants to get her feet wet since she's never really been single....but,
3 times in one week and promiscuity is to be assumed? duh! she pretty much put it out there...
