New Year's Plans

...

KillarneyRose 12-28-2001 01:09 PM

My husband and I used to go all out for New Years Eve, but now that we're old married folks, we just celebrate alone at home. After we put the girls to bed, we make ourselves a special late supper (this year we're cooking lobsters, asparagus and baked potatoes plus my scallop/potato/corn chowder that is a yearly tradition) and then watch a movie or two on pay per view. Of course, we tune into Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve for a few minutes to watch the ball drop! It's just a nice, quiet time for us and we like it that way :)

Hey, has anyone ever gone to Times Square for New Years Eve? I did in 1989 and 1990. What a mob scene! But it was a blast!

dzrose93 12-28-2001 01:18 PM

On New Year's Eve...

I'll be at my boyfriend's house. We've invited a few of our mutual friends over for a bonfire and fireworks display. I'm so excited! Last year, I went out partying on New Year's Eve and Buckhead was an absolute madhouse. Too crowded to be enjoyable. I'm glad to NOT be doing that this year! :D

PenguinTrax 12-28-2001 01:39 PM

We're getting together with 4 other couples for a 'gourmet' potluck dinner. Each couple is bringing 2 dishes to share, the hosts supply some wine and we'll just chill and eat all night!

Sue_XO 12-28-2001 02:33 PM

It is sad for us this year- we've had the tradition with (2) other couples of going to one house, having a beautiful dinner, watching the clock and sleeping over but the one couple is in the middle of a divorce now -

So- we are just staying home- which since I can't drink- I'm looking forward to a quiet evening at home with my honey! :)

Sisterplum 12-28-2001 02:41 PM

We don't have any plans as of yet....but we're working to see if our couple friends (3 of them) are going to be in town for New Years. If so, hopefully we'll all get together for some kind of party!

Personally, I just can't sit at home with my husband on New Years! I do that every weekend.....so to me it would just be any other night. I NEED to go party!:) LOL!:D:D

MoxieGrrl 12-28-2001 02:43 PM

My boyfriend is a part of an ECHL hockey organization, and they have a game that night....*sighs* So my New Year's celebration won't start until he gets finished around 10. I'm going to the game all dressed up and ready for action. Yeah, I might get a few funny looks, but hey! After the game, we're going to a bar b/c not only is it New Year's Eve...it's my best friend's 23rd birthday! I love New Years!!

I always wanted to go to Times Square, but I'm too scared to set foot in New York City. Stupid terrorists.

GmuTeke 12-28-2001 03:11 PM

I'm going over to my big bro's girlfriends house with a few friends to chill and inagurate the new year after a terribly hectic (and somewhat terrible) semester. I'm bringing tequila, friends are bringing vodka, and we're all getting nice and sloshed. Card games, movies, maybe a little dancing, usual stuff.

Ahhh- I remember partying at Buckhead at New Years with my ex-fiance who lived in the area - it is crazy!

This year, since I am painfully single, I think Im going to have my best girl friend Jamie (who is also single) over for movies and food.

Please keep my brother and his wife in your thoughts - as well as everyone who will be in Times Square on New Years Eve - it will be crazy, but hopefully SAFE!

SparkliiQTMTSU 12-29-2001 11:29 PM

Yaaay I cant wait until New Years! My best friend and I are going to a big group gathering at our friend Justin's house...bonfire,fireworks....alcohol..all that good stuff!!! :)

The1calledTKE 12-29-2001 11:34 PM

I will be spending time with my girlfriend watching the ball drop on tv. I don't need anything fancy, just spending that special time with her will make me more happy than any ole party.

Siobhan 12-30-2001 12:29 AM

My boyfriend and I are heading up to Whistler - some friends of ours are already up there so we will be joining them. We will most likely hang out at someone's cabin drinking and listening to music and enjoying a good party Whistler style.

Lil_G 12-30-2001 12:59 AM

me and some boys are hitting up the casino...i figure gambling and boooowhooozee are a good combination to solve my gambling problem.

amycat412 12-30-2001 01:13 AM

I'm going to a friends house for a potluck dinner much like the one Penguin Trax explained. :) About 20 of us, lots of food, lots of drink, should be fun!

Tom Earp 12-30-2001 01:25 AM

Well ahving not going out on amature nite any nore, I stay home and get mellow early and work part of the day at my store as have nothing else to do!:(

If anyone want s toi call and wish em a Happy New Year i will be at 913-334-4567 till at least 1:00 PM CST!

aggieAXO 12-30-2001 03:48 PM

I will be going to a party at a friends house and then maybe downtown Austin. Don't forget about having a designated driver-I will probably be the one this year. Have a happy and safe New Years

33girl 12-30-2001 04:22 PM

We are going to a Mexican restaurant for a buffet and (I think) Latin dancing with 2 other couples, then going to our friend's house who is having an all-night party. After last night, I don't think I will be drinking much on New Year's Eve. :p

justamom 12-31-2001 08:50 AM

I spent enough nights at home ALONE watching the damn ball drop and listening to Dick Clark's Rockin New Years Eve to last a lifetime! (That's just another bad part when you move near the end of HS and your Honey Bunny lives in another state) Sooo, we are going to an upscale dining establishement-we can bring our own spirits for a uncorking fee-oral menu-LA-TI-DA! There will be six of us dressed up in sparkles. After that, if the old man is still awake, we will celebrate some more!

Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe and I hope everyone feels really GREAT tomorrow morning! Remember the old wives tale--.
What you do on New Year's Day, you will be doing an abundance of the rest of the year. So, enjoy the day and NO FIGHTING!!!

alphachiohmy 12-31-2001 10:38 AM

girls night out

Heading to my friends early to get ready. Then were headed to a club and then back to my friends house to crash.
Hope all of you who are going out and staying in have a great time!

On a side note: Anyone else make it a tradition to eat cornbeef, cabbage and black-eyed peas on New Years day??

justamom 12-31-2001 11:21 AM

Every year-cornbeef & cabbage with a side of blackeyed peas.
NOT THIS YEAR. I am casting caution to the wind and going with
a "finger food" buffet. I don't want to cook, just let everyone graze.

DeltAlum 12-31-2001 01:58 PM

We're heading out to daughter number one's house for early dinner then home.

Daughter number two's father in law is mayor of a local 'burb and I think they're all going to some fancy party -- so we may watch the new grandbaby.

No way in the world I want to be out on the roads later in the evening. Did enough of that in the past.

Be safe, and Happy New Year.

DeltAlum

Tom Earp 12-31-2001 07:11 PM

AOIIBrandi 12-31-2001 11:00 PM

As with Brookline I will be sitting at home drinking expensive champagne by myself (out of the good crystal of course) :D - hubby decided he needed his beauty sleep :( - and waiting to hear that my friend has had her baby (They think it will be one of the New Year's babies)

dzsaigirl 12-31-2001 11:21 PM

We eat black eyed peas for good luck.

I was supposed to go to a party at a place in downtown Houston thrown for one of my sorority sisters by her dad...open bar, etc. However, my fiance is in town and wants to stay in and drink champagne and eat and watch the ball...so I caved and am now skipping out on my sister's shindig. Kinda sucks to miss it, but being with my fiance will be fun too. We are now headed out for dinner really quick...just got back with the champagne and it is chilling. Everyone be extra careful and take care of each other and yourselves.

Miami1839 12-31-2001 11:28 PM

Not the merry beta this new years eve.

I did have dinner with the family but otherwise its going to be
one quiet night....:(

Thrillhouse 01-01-2002 05:12 PM

Was out till about 5 am. Funny thing was, out of everything I drank, it pretty much wore off by than, good times.

amycat412 01-01-2002 09:10 PM

I am soooooo hungover....

KarenC725 01-01-2002 09:59 PM

I feel very old for saying this, but I LOVED staying in and doing nothing this new years. My boyfriend and I cooked a great dinner and then played Playstation all night. I was in my sweats by 9. Of course, we both were getting over being sick so we didn't want to go out but it was fun. And we're only 25!

I did that last year ALONE and loved it! My friends all thought I was nuts/were worried about my anti-socialness, haha But I stayed in, cooked a nice dinner, and watched the Sex and the City marathon and reflected on the year--which I needed to do!

juniorgrrl 01-02-2002 01:20 AM

My new years was terribly anticlimactic. Boyfriend came over, had dinner and watched TV while my mom sat and complained the WHOLE time. See, the heat is out in part of our house, and rather than go in the bedroom to be warm, she bitches about how cold it is in the den. The high point of the night was when she fell asleep with her mouth open. :o

But, I'm just getting over being sick, so it was nice to stay in.

We played Dance Dance Revolution till midnight and then rang in the new year with 2.99 champagne. We had maybe 10 minutes alone all night

School starts in 21 days...can't wait :)

AOPiLaLa 01-02-2002 11:06 AM

Well, my New Years was interesting--and I warn you, this may be a little long and FULL of "why me, God??" questions. My friend Alison had a party, so I headed there with my friend Catherine and her boyfriend. I had not planned on drinking much, because I didn't want to feel like shit the next day and I was also still recovering from Friday and Saturday. But we get there, and its all my good friends from college, plus some fun new people, so I decide I will just drink in moderation and just sleep at Alison's. Yeah--that can happen on New Years Eve--RIGHT. But I really so start out the night drinking slowly, just a BudLight or 2. And then, the night got interesting. See, there were one or two single guys there, all of which were cute but just not my type. And for all of you who know or don't know, I have been the fitness and diet diva for the last 9 months and have lost a LOT of weight, so I was in the mood to be picky and not just kiss someone for kissings sake. And then, a cutie walks in--one of Alison's friends from high school. So, we keep doing that little smiley thing at each other and by now, I realize I am getting drunk, but still okay. Midnight comes, and we down some champagne, which I HATE(initation night flashbacks!) but I take a few sips. And then they break out the downfall--CHOCOLATE MARTINI'S. I have HALF of one and know that I am DONE. Everyone else downs there whole glass and from there, we head to the living room. And at this point, the cute friend and I have our arms wrapped around each other and are sitting in a chair, just talking. At this point, my friend Alison pulls me aside to tell me that one of her other friends thinks I am cute and wants to know if he has a chance. Well, personally, I think the sight of me cuddling with another guy should have tipped him off, but I guess not. So, I tell Alison that he is a nice guy but not my type and head back to my cuddling buddy. Well, we have now been joined by rejected boy, who proceeds to sit and GLARE at us the whole time. So, cuddle buddy and I move to another room and are laying on the couch, just kissing. I am thinking this is a great way to ring in the NEw Year and yay for me. But suddenly he bolts up and runs for the bathroom, where I now hear him throwing up. Well, that was the first buzzkill of the night. The second begins when I hear another person run for the bathroom, say "Oh shit" and proceed to throw up on the floor. That would be my friend Catherine, who did not make the toilet because cuddle buddy was using it. So, she begins to cry and I go in there to help her and him. I go find some carpet cleaner, 409, towels, all the rest. Help Catherine to bed. Put cuddle buddy on the couch. And clean up SOMEONE ELSE's throw up on New Years Eve. Not what I thought would be fun. And DEFINATELY something to sober me up. But it was still a fun night till then. Guess the moral of the story is NEVER FINISH YOUR CHOCOLATE MARTINI!!

KSigkid 01-02-2002 12:25 PM

New Year's was cool - went to my cousin's, his fiancee's birthday is New Year's eve, so he has this New Year's/Birthday party every year. It was interesting, and included a kid puking exactly at midnight (and I mean EXACTLY on the strike of midnight) and the usual drunken fun. I ate probably half a casserole dish full of taco dip and fell asleep on my cousin's floor (with my coat as my pillow), and woke up the next morning to the sound of his friend Brandon snoring (the loudest I've ever heard, woke me up from across the room) The best part - I only made a couple of drunk dials (and none that I will regret)

My New Year's Eve was fun. My boyfriend and I went over to this guy on his soccer team's house but we didn't know anyone besides the guy who lived there, and everybody was raving and listening to trance music. Nothing wrong with that, but it's just not our thing. So we left and went over to this other house where his brother and some of his friends were hanging out. We knew most of the people there so it was a lot more fun. I didn't drink too much because I didn't want to be hungover so I only had like 3 beers and some champagne the whole night. It was fun, and it sure beats last year when I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth taken out!

SparkliiQTMTSU 01-03-2002 03:41 AM

You knowwhat can be a very bad thing??!!! Having someone video tape the whole drunken night!! OMG I didnt remember bits and pieces of the night...lol and I even had myself saying on camera that I wasnt drunk..you know what?? I DONT EVEN REMEMBER SAYING THAT!! lol wow!! I think we need to get rid of the tape too..but it was a digital video camera and everyone of us have a copy of the night..*not something Im gonna show my kids* although it makes for very funny viewing!
