Movies that people have recommended as a "must see", and you were like...Seriously?
Has anyone ever recommended a movie to you as a "must see", and when you saw it, you thought it was awful?
I have a few, but I'm sure other movies will come to mind as I read what others have posted. 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Carrie 3. The Shining 4. The Last Emperor 5. Devil in a Blue Dress 6. Pretty Woman So far.. |
Any movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm sure I'll have more later.

Totally forgot about him. I just don't like him as an actor. He's awful. |
Napoleon Dynomite
I like movies, books & stories, and it takes me a lot to actually hate one, but I really want those two hours of my life back. |
Silence of the Lambs (it took me 3 tries to get through it without falling asleep)
Singles Beverly Hills Cop (not awful, just the result of excessive hype before I finally saw it) |
Forrest Gump.
Yeah, I know. :o |
The English Patient

Atonement made me angry it was so bad. I have a hard and fast rule that The Wizard of Oz gets to have it all be a dream but NOBODY ELSE DOES. If it turns out to all be a dream, I want my money back. The day I saw that I snuck into Sweeney Todd so I could feel better. And I did. I really enjoyed that one!
I also don't get it about Pretty Woman, but when I was a concierge in Chicago I used it as a benchmark for when to suggest Miss Saigon. With as straight a face as I could muster I would ask if they loved Pretty Woman. If they did, then they would love Miss Saigon. If they hated it then I steered them away. And that worked every time. The hooker with a heart of gold story has been done to death and I find it well beyond cheesy. |

Anything directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Oz, The Great & Powerful.
It didn't add to the story. It was a visual effects display, nothing more. Plus, they got some traditional things wrong (Glinda is the witch of the NORTH), and I hated that tiara and most of Glinda's wardrobe. |

Anything directed/written by Wes Anderson. Anything with Seth Rogen. (I was going to say anything with Judd Apatow's fingerprints on it, but he did Anchorman.) |

More often than not I like Wes Anderson's & Judd Apatow's work, just when they lay a bomb they really lay a doozy.

The Notebook!

Natural Born Killers - I just thought it was stupid.
Independence Day - I kept waiting for something unpredictable to happen. Skyfall - Wanted to like it. Bored. |
I've never really been big on "Rocky" movies. They're just too unrealistic. Every last one of those "Rocky" fights would have been stopped in the first round in real life (Rocky being the loser).

Every few weeks, someone tells me that I will !!LOVE!! Office Space. I tried and got through about 15 minutes. Likewise with Zoolander.
I HATED Four Weddings and a Funeral. All through that movie, I was like, "Gawd, these two effing annoying people need to get together, shut up, and leave the rest of the world alone." Loathed Moonstruck. I went on a first date once where early on, he mentioned that Moonstruck was his favorite movie. First and last date, that. Any Monty Python. I have seen one or two and just did.not.get.it. Blazing Saddles. I laughed to tears at History of the World Part I, but no idea why Blazing Saddles did nothing for me. Did not see why people found Slap Shot hilarious, but it was recommended to be by a BIG hockey fan, so maybe that was it. I'm not a big movie watcher in general, though. Too many of them are too depressing. If I'm paying good money to be entertained, I want to be chortling the whole time. |
Fargo. I didn't hate it, by any means, but I DO NOT GET why it is considered some sort of masterpiece. It's not even my favorite Coen Brothers film.

Mr. Poppins just added "Showgirls," "Battleship," and "Gosford Park."

You all have named some great movies ;) I love Tarentino! For me, anything with Nick Cage blows. Add films with Channing Tatum (except 21 Jump Street) or James Franco. They are both dreadful.

I don't get it, either. Any time I casually say, "It's ok..," people flip out and tell me how crazy I am for not loving that movie. |

I will jump on the Napoleon Dynamite train. Ugh. Ted. The first Indiana Jones movie. All the Toy Stories |

Magic Mike. The visuals are amazing. The acting is horrible and I want to punch the sister. |

Slumdog Millionaire. I felt guilty after watching it, knowing how awfully the film/production exploited most of the people who appeared in the movie.
Avatar. Big ol' BFD on that one. |

Cabin Fever. Worst movie EVER. I can't remember who told me to go see it as that was almost 10 years ago but I'm still mad at him/her! |
