Possible Historical Forum??
 

Since that other thread about a new forum was deleted....which is fine....but I wanted to post something about the discussion of a possible Historical Thread.

There were a couple notes about moderators thinking about this and wanted to find out if there are real plans, and is there a date soon when one will open?

Please add my voice in support to the creation of a "history" forum! I'd venture to say it would be supported by a variety of our members. It would be a good location to have threads on research, for example.

John, I assume you'll let us know when you are ready to launch so we can make a party.

I only liked the other thread b/c it was humorous to read the dude and his buddy flouncing around, and I suspect that it must have gotten kind of really off the rails since it's not around. Whatever!

Personally am enjoying the evolution of GC and looking forward with anticipation to the next chapter.

Well, phooey. The first over-the-top thread around here in weeks and I missed it completely. ;)

I know. This is when I wish a thread had been locked rather than completely obliterated.

Whatever has been done can be undone. I would recommend if this is what you want to see that you address any reasonable requests to the mod of the forum the drama went down in and see what they're willing to do.

Historical forum would be great

Oh, It's not that big a deal. I just hate to miss the excitement, and sometimes the excitement comes and goes very quickly.

Hey MC - here's a snyopsis (my version): koBE flounces a couple of times. I think you caught that. Goes off to another forum someplace and wahwahwah about us. Friend comes here, sets up an account, and chews on us, tells us what a great guy koBE is, how tech savvy, etc. and how stupid we are (esp. the Coke-Pepsi analogy, not sure if he mentioned WalMart, skimmed his posts b/c he had diarrhea of the fingertips), told us what a great debater he was, yadayadayada, I was like "Oh. Wow. What kind of person writes "I am a great debater"? Really? This is ridiculous! It's like these guys are in 7th grade, let's have an argument and we are gonna have the last word. Then I thought: no thank you" and I went out with my friends and lots of dogs because it was a perfect evening! We played in the park, we had gelato, I missed stock club. Oh well.

The end.

That said, a historical forum sounds like a good idea.

I'd enjoy a historical forum too. The badge threads, Happy Founder's Day threads could go there, interesting things about your house (not sure that's how it is worded, but there is a thread like that), is your house haunted, thread about founders' burial sites... we have had a lot of historical type threads.

On a side note, I noticed in a couple of those posts some acronyms I'm not familiar with (I should probably ask my kids this...) but was wondering if anyone here could share?

COB = Continuous Open Bidding

If an NPC group is under Panhellenic Total/Limitation, they can offer a bid to someone anytime during the year. They don't have to wait for a structured Informal Recruitment, for example.

Thanks. When I was in school ( a hundred years ago, or so it seems) acronyms weren't in style....at least not in the context as I've seen on GC over time.

Yep. GC's name for the alternative, kinder and gentler site started by some folks who didn't like the vibe here or got banned here (many, many times). Though it's Happy Rainbow Pony Land -- HRPL.

Let's leave out Duck Dynasty or American Pickers type stuff, though. History, they're not.

American pickers is a good show, much better than duck dynasty....and I keep waiting to see if they come across any old fraternity or sorority items! (Same with Pawn Stars!)

On a serious note......the thread that got deleted about a new forum....the reference kept coming up about a Pepsi vs coke thing....I want to know, what is GC? "Pepsi", or "Coke"??

Just wondering because, personally I prefer Pepsi products..... ;)

There is a historic Sigma Nu badge in one of the cases at the Pawn Stars shop. I don't think they'll ever put it on TV. They had the price fairly low when I was last there...don't think they know anything about fraternity jewelry. Don't get your hope up.

If GC members could do the supermods a big favor (as they're the only ones who can do this) and locate and post links to those threads in a new thread, we could do that. This needs to be groupsourced though. It's a big job.

Love the new forum!! Who is going to moderate it? I can't think of anyone better than MysticCat if he is interested. Not sure what the mod selection process is like though... Oh wait, would sharing that mean violating the secrecy of the GC Moderator Selection ritual? :D
