When was the last time you attended an initiation?

I was scrolling through Tri Delta Pinterest pins and saw some initiation pics. I was trying to think of the last time I attended an initiation. Probably Convention in 1994 (?).

That's too long. :(

AnchorAlumna 03-05-2013 05:48 PM

November, 2011 at the re-installation of my chapter.
But when I attended one as a regional officer, it had been 8 or so years, and before that, it had been about 18 or so years. I couldn't believe how much I had forgotten!

Psi U MC Vito 03-05-2013 07:10 PM

I went to one in 2010 I think? It's difficult now just because of how far away I am from any chapter. Before that I made it to 10 in 4 years for 4 different chapters.

AGDLynn 03-05-2013 07:27 PM

Alpha Gamma Delta's installation at South Carolina last year. :D

If my back cooperates, I will try to go to AGD - Ga. Tech's spring Initiation tomorrow night, but right now looking iffy:p

KillarneyRose 03-05-2013 07:54 PM

This is terrible, but the last initiation I went to was in 1988 when we installed Duquesne University's chapter. I was honored to be part of the initiation team but doing the ritual with National Officers in the room was a little intimidating!

I would so love to go to another one some day, though.

AOIIalum 03-05-2013 08:33 PM

November 2011, I think? I know it was fall 2011 for sure.

OleMissAnchor 03-05-2013 08:52 PM

I went to an initiation in November (and met a Greekchatter there! But I didn't know it at the time). We had an alumna initiate whose daughter and two granddaughters are all Delta Gammas. She's already become one of our most active members-a model for all the other initiates to see that membership really is for life!

I enjoyed attending. I wish more collegiate chapters would be more proactive about inviting local alumnae. It makes the ceremony much more special for all. My college chapter usually had a large number of alumnae attend due to the number of legacies and family friends who recommended new members.

XAntoftheSkyX 03-05-2013 09:29 PM

Fall 2011 for sure, but the Regional Convention I went to last spring had a Ritual Exemplification. I also participated in an Alumni Ceremony afterwards

Titchou 03-05-2013 09:49 PM

Last summer at Convention and before that in November, 2011 when my chapter was re-installed...and before that - no idea!a

AZ-AlphaXi 03-05-2013 10:03 PM

January 2012 when I attended the re-installation of my chapter at Western Ky. University. Was proud to be part of the installation team.

MaryPoppins 03-05-2013 10:10 PM

November 2012. It was an all day deal due to the size of the Ole Miss New Member classes. Saw lots of Alumnae come for their Legacy or Recomendee. (Is the latter a word?)

SWTXBelle 03-05-2013 10:13 PM

Re-instillation of my chapter (Gamma Chi - TX State) - November 2012. SO WONDERFUL!

shellylou 03-05-2013 10:14 PM

I was honored to attend the initiation of my daughter this past November, it was so special to see her become a sister and a daughter to me! What made it even more memorable was that the National President of Theta Phi Alpha conducted the ritual! I only hope my younger daughter will get to experience something so spectacular in a few years!;)

Sister Havana 03-05-2013 10:22 PM

1999, when I went to my chapter's 70th anniversary celebration. (It coincided with initiation - we had initiation during the day and the anniversary banquet that evening) It's too bad it didn't work out that way for the 80th anniversary celebration, which I also attended.

AlwaysSAI 03-05-2013 10:25 PM

Alpha Gam Initiation.....it's been a loooong time. I was supposed go to the USC installation but details didn't jive with grad school.

SAI College Initiation....2012 Convention over the summer. My alumnae chapter just initiated a Patroness member in January, so I attended that. College Initiation Ceremony =/= Patroness Initiation Ceremony.

Kevin 03-05-2013 10:50 PM

I go to most all of 'em.

AZTheta 03-05-2013 11:00 PM

Most recent one was October 2012; I have lost count of how many I've gone to since I was initiated when God was a baby.

pbear19 03-05-2013 11:02 PM

Last November. :) I'm ritual advisor for two chapters right now, so I attend initiations with some frequency. :)

jazing 03-05-2013 11:30 PM

Other than my own chapter's initiation, I've been to our model initiation at our convention.

KSUViolet06 03-05-2013 11:35 PM

Convention 2010 with 700 of my sisters and 2 honor initiates. Witnessing your initiation performed by your Exec Council with so many of your sisters in one room is indescribable.

Thats the best way to say what I wanted to say. There's some ritual stuff I can't say, but seeing it with nearly 500+ brothers in a large space is amazing. I'm sure most model initiations are spectacular. I believe we initiated 16 AI.

Sciencewoman 03-05-2013 11:56 PM

Model Initiation at Convention, 2012. Our Alumnae Services Coordinator was initiated as an AI. I've worked with her for years on alumnae chapter business, and it's great to be able to call her a sister now!

honeychile 03-06-2013 12:12 AM

I think my last one was two years ago. I remember a very funny detail, probably because they'll never let me forget it!

SigEp does the same and it's sooo amazing. Usually, though, they let the closest chapter run the Ritual. Could you imagine, though, being initiated in that setting? EPIC.

Anyway, "initiation" is hard to define in SigEpLand. But, by my definition, I'll say that my last one was in January. Our biggest Rituals happen twice a year during retreats, and our winter retreat is basically an alumni reunion, so I stuck around for a little bit to watch before ducking out to the bar. :P

TriDeltaSallie 03-06-2013 01:03 AM

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I saw a couple of initiations done at Conventions and I found them less special. I think being in a big, impersonal room in a public place... It made it seem more like I was watching than I was a participant.

(It is hard to fully make your point when you can't discuss certain aspects!)

Regardless of ritual components I can see where you are coming from. I can only just imagine how epic it must be for those going through. Our nationals has a ritual committee who practice the ritual throughout the convention then perform the model initiation. Its perfect and it just as it says a "model" initiation.

HQWest 03-06-2013 01:28 AM

Last October - at this point - as a long time adviser - I have probably helped initiate more than 600 women at more than 20 ceremonies.

AOII Angel 03-06-2013 01:58 AM

I was at initiation in November since I'm the ritual adviser. Of note, AOII holds ritual but not initiation at convention.

tld221 03-06-2013 02:09 AM

Wow, the last one I've attended was 2010, and even then I caught the tail end. The last one I participated in was my neos who crossed in 2008. It was amazing!

AGDee 03-06-2013 06:47 AM

November, when one of Hypo's best friends was initiated into our Alpha Beta chapter at the University of Michigan :)

(Lane swerve)

I just found out a few weeks ago that my husband's sister-in-law's niece is an AGD at UM. I think she was initiated this past fall!

(End lane swerve)

Did someone have a mishap with their azure catsuit? :)

DreamfulSpirit 03-06-2013 01:34 PM

My last one was this January as we chartered OPA's Alpha Nu Chapter at Texas State!

NinjaPoodle 03-06-2013 02:25 PM

11-17-2001 My own.

Oh, you wish! Actually, it was an mishap with the lion that gave everyone the giggles! ;)

WCsweet<3 03-06-2013 02:57 PM

I believe it was November 2010. Possibly spring 2011.

I am a convention initiate, and I think that definitely increased my love of ritual. The entire experience was quite amazing. "Epic" is a very fitting word!

ms_gwyn 03-06-2013 05:31 PM

I think I was next to you at one point during the ceremony.

That was the last time I attended as well....

Still crossing fingers for June, but it is looking dismal.

Chartering of the Alpha Phi Omega chapter at Art Institute of Washington in 2012, I think. (For APO, those starting a new chapter (or restarting an old one) aren't full brothers until the chapter (re-)charters)

AngelPhiSig 03-07-2013 04:25 PM

Currently, Id say it was 2004? I am hoping to be in town for my chapter's initiation on March 28! (Phi Sig)

Id say the same for TBS... they just had their 3rd Degree (Initiation) so I wont be at that one ;)
