Alabama Panhellenic Preview Day

Went to T-town to help out at the house today (arranging things, preparing meals and snack for the chapter, cleaning up, etc). Total number signed up for Preview Day was 1400! OMG! How many will be there this fall????

Also, construction fencing and signs up for new Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi houses on Bryant Drive. Next week Tri Delta is having their farewell weekend at the round house. All very exciting for the sororities at Alabama!

FSUZeta 02-23-2013 07:32 PM

1400....wow! Thanks for the update.

greekdee 02-23-2013 09:34 PM

Several PNMs on my '13 Rec Crew are there! I got some updates this evening -- 12 minute house tours for almost five hours! They have had a blast. I can only imagine what recruitment will look like this fall.

Titchou 02-23-2013 09:49 PM

I know. It was weird. And some got over heated - but just wait till August!

I was there with my daughter. It's such a great atmosphere and the excitement was contagious. She walked in to the stadium after a looong afternoon visiting the houses with a smile on her face and I knew she'd had fun. The day was well done and I'm really glad we made the trip.

I know where Gamma Phi Beta is going - where will Alpha Phi be?

Next door to the right as you face them. So one lot closer to Martha Parham.

Glad to hear that from a parent!

Wow -- another huge recruitment on the horizon.

A good time for PNMs to begin making lists and gathering information they need for recruitment.

Of interest (and timely, considering), the Sorority 101 event (Birmingham Alumnae Panhellenic) is next Saturday, March 2nd -- open to all high school juniors and seniors:

Why, thank you, Hart. Was going to post today but you beat me to it. Glad you kept the link. We're hoping for a big turnout.

You're welcome. My local alum club sent out the info a while back and encouraged members to alert juniors and seniors they know.

I would imagine that other alum clubs have done the same.

Titchou 02-24-2013 01:29 PM

I hope so! APH has put a lot of effort into this event and I know they would love for it to be an annual affair.

Hartofsec 02-24-2013 02:34 PM

You can still be the first to post about it on your own Birmingham Alumnae Chapter's website.

FSUZeta 02-24-2013 02:35 PM

Yes, thanks for posting the link. I have passed this on to my daughter, who teachers at an "over the mountain" high school.

Some high schools might be willing to include this in morning announcements -- some college-related informational opportunities outside of school are made known to students (and parents too -- if the school has a parental sign-up system for daily announcements).

Here's an expansion map I hadn't seen before that better shows how groups will be moving:
http://www.uafacilities.ua.edu/plann...ter%20Plan.pdf - go to the final picture, page 7

Goodness, my mind is boggling at the growth of existing houses!

Here's a Crimson-White article on the plan: http://cw.ua.edu/2012/11/20/all-soro...pand-relocate/

Titchou 02-24-2013 02:47 PM

It should have been provided to all the high schools (public and private) in the greater Birmingham area. All the APH delegates signed up to handle for the various schools. We had all of them covered. Whether the schools follow thru is another issue altogether.

Hartofsec 02-24-2013 03:10 PM

I think this is a great opportunity -- perhaps especially for girls living in places less densely populated with alumnae.

Auburn University Panhellenic posted it on their site:

Interest Sessions for High School Seniors

There is no need to pay someone to teach you about sorority recruitment. All summer, we will present at Camp War Eagle to educate our potential members about recruitment as well as sending important updates, so please don't go to outside consultants for help. This spring, we will be represented at the following meetings, which are FREE to high school seniors interested in sorority life. We are only represented at the meetings listed below. Click on the town to learn more!

* February 23, 2013-
Houston, Texas
* March 2, 2013- Birmingham, Alabama

I believe Alabama is doing something similar to this with their regional interest meetings and the "Greek Ambassador" program.
Feel free to correct that if I'm wrong!

I don't really think it serves the same purpose, but the Greek Ambassadors were probably helping out on Panhellenic Preview Day.

Titchou 02-24-2013 04:26 PM

While they may have helped out (I was in the kitchen so never even looked out the front door!), they do other things on campus all year long. Preview Day would not be their only function. Several items on ua.edu under Greek Ambassadors for those who may be interested.

As for the regional interest meetings, I have no idea.

Oh I see -- I think you were referring to the Camp War Eagle part on the Auburn Panhellenic site -- I was referring to this part advertising the Birmingham Alumnae Panhellenic event next week:
