The Amazing Race - Season 22

The new season premiered the 17th.

The Teams:

You Tube - Joey & Meghan (Los Angeles, CA)
Firefighters - Matthew & Daniel (Gaffney, SC)
Newlyweds - Katie & Max (Buffalo, NY)
OBGYN/Twins - Jamil & Idries (Chicago, IL)
Country Singers - Caroline & Jennifer (Austin, TX & Nashville, TN)
Hockey/Brothers - Anthony & Bates (Raleigh, NC)
Alabama/Hillbillies - Chuck & Wynona (Daphne, AL)
Survivors/Father/Son - David & Connor (Salt Lake City, UT)
Rollerderby - Mona & Beth (Arvada, CO)
Best Friends - Pamela & Winnie (Los Angeles, CA)
Dating - John & Jessica (Huntington Beach, CA)

I loved the first destination but the challenges were just not very exiting in my opinion.

My favorites so far:
the twins, country singers and hockey players

Least favorite:
Newlyweds. They even admit to being fake.

The word "dispicable" comes to mind.

Kappamd 02-19-2013 06:27 PM

^^^The newlyweds are awful.

I don't normally post about this show which is odd because I never miss it, but it REALLY irritated me that the last THREE teams gave up and took the time penalty.

And I agree, the challenges were lame.

GPhiBLtColonel 02-19-2013 08:47 PM

My husband starting watching this season! He said he liked all the teams except the newlyweds seemed full of themselves....I agree!

:)

Connor and David are among my favorites, and I hope they're able to stay in the race.

I had no idea until last night's episode that Jennifer is John Wayne's granddaughter! I had to replay the scene just to make sure I was understanding her correctly. And her teammate is one of Daniel Boone's direct descendents! What interesting stories they must have!

We like them too, but my husband & I laugh that all the dad (david?) has done is cry since he's been on the show! They've shown interview clips every. single. time. with him crying about the cancer...and then the achillies. They need to show him happy...just once! :)

How did you miss this in the early episodes? I know it was in their online bios, but I feel like they both talked about it CONSTANTLY in the first two episodes.

Love the show. Have seen every single episode of every single season. I'm a junkie. :p

ErinHope 03-04-2013 04:34 PM

Go Team YouTube! I watch their videos, and they're adorable. I also like the Father/Son team and the rollerderby moms.

lol - I guess I just wasn't paying close enough attention to them in the earlier episodes. I'm a recent fan - not a TAR junkie by any stretch of the imagination - and it's often just a "playing-in-the-background" kind of thing for me. I probably miss a lot of things.

AGDee 03-06-2013 09:38 PM

I always have a hard time paying attention when there are lots of teams. As they get narrowed down, then I can focus on details about each of them. I can barely keep them straight early on, just like with Survivor and American Idol (which I have stopped watching altogether now).

And when he's not actually crying, he still whines. I like Connor, but I'm past ready for Dad to go.

Ready for Team YouTube -- it's like Fred Figglehorn goes on The Amazing Race -- and Team HatefulNewlyweds to go, too.

How do you go home with an express pass in your pocket? Even Phil seemed pretty amazed they would do that.

Kind of like getting voted off the island with a hidden immunity idol in your pocket.

Surfer boy sure was serene about the whole thing. Surfer girl, not so much.

And yay for Connor's dad, who didn't cry (much) last night.

Surfer dude had a crazed look in his eye like he was indestructible or something. What an idiot! And why didn't Phil approach him (after an hour and a half or whatever) and tell him it was over? They've done that in the past. I was surprised they let him continue, but maybe the crazy look in his eye added to the drama.

He totally cried at the end! We were laughing so hard. At some point Dad is going to have to do a road block - they have a rule where they have to split them - so something is going to have to give!

He really did. Someone else commented that they had been racing for something like 4 days straight, with no break (except while on airplanes or downtime at airports). I wondered if he was exhausted to the point of being a little out of it.

I'm sure that was it - and it made for good TV, so the producers kept rolling...

No kidding! I loved as he was walking away saying... "no regrets..." Yeah, whatever.

Yeah, and it's not like he was unrolling huge bales of hay for hours!

I think it's different than getting voted off with an idol in your pocket, unless someone told you straight out that your name is on the short list for TC. Usually when that happens, they think they are with the group but they're not. These two knew they were down to two.

He did seem crazed and I'll chalk it up to exhaustion.

There will be some road blocks that the Dad can do .. the eating challenges, the "find something" challenges, maybe even swimming challenges. That leg was four days so he's had the aircast/brace thing on for four days. It will probably improve a lot over the next few days, unless he injures it again or something.

MysticCat 03-25-2013 08:49 PM

Drat. I really was hoping to see Max and Katie gone.

My thoughts exactly.

SWTXBelle 03-25-2013 09:52 PM

Yep.

PeppyGPhiB 03-27-2013 05:37 PM

Any thoughts on the controversy addressed at the show's opening this past week? I did raise an eyebrow at the whole "We Love Communism" song and the B-52 memorial when I saw it...not surprised VFW was pissed off.

I suppose I can see how it bothered some people, but neither raised my eyebrows. I'm old enough to remember Vietnam well, though not old enough to have fought there, and I had no immediate family there. To be honest, when I saw the statement at the beginning, I had to think a minute to try to figure out what parts of the previous show they were talking about.

With the B-52, I was sort of felt it is what it is; it's part of the history of Vietnam. Frankly, the song struck me as something to cause eye rolls and incredulous chuckles more than raised eyebrows.

I wasn't necessarily bothered by either, but I knew others would be. I'm sure there were some people who were pissed they were in Vietnam at all, even though it's the second or third time the show has been there. It was the combination of the pro-communism and downed B-52 that I think was risky...it made it seem like producers were trying to rub a Vietnam "victory" in the American viewers' faces. It just seemed like a missed opportunity to me for TAR to show some of the peaceful American-Vietnamese progress after the war.

AGDee 03-31-2013 10:34 PM

Ugh, I stopped recording the show that comes on after TAR when football season ended. Now I only have 19 minutes of tonight's episode. Ugh.

Tulip86 04-16-2013 11:47 AM

About time.

AGDee 04-16-2013 07:09 PM

I always cringe when one member of a team spends the whole time berating the other one. A true team finds ways to support each other and help each other get through it, not demean their partner and make them feel even worse about the challenges they have.

...which makes the Wolverine allegiance all the more puzzling, in addition to tragic. :)

MysticCat 04-23-2013 08:23 AM

Whew for the hockey boys. I was worried there for a while.

And haggis and bagpipes next week! I'm so ready.

AGDee 05-04-2013 11:40 PM

I just watched Sunday's episode (rough week). I missed your previous comment MC, but when the haggis poet started reciting, I definitely thought about you and the sushi vs. haggis comments in the WIFLSRN thread.

AGDee 05-05-2013 11:05 PM

I always feel so sad when it is over, but I was happy with the result :)

Tulip86 05-06-2013 04:15 AM

This wasn't a great season for me, none of the contestants really were that likable for me after the first weeks.
Loves the locations though, especially Scotland!

We had sort of the opposite reaction -- there were a few teams we really liked more and more as the race went on (yay Bates and Anthony!, but also a few others) and a few that we liked less and less (Max and Katie, the surfer team and the YouTubers), but none that we just detested.

And we're kicking ourselves just a little for not going to Bate's bar to watch the finale last night.

And absolutely on the Scottish leg. :D
