Wrist Watches
Have any of you seen the new Movado watches that have come out? They have leather bands in bright colors like baby blue, pink and yellow and they have diamonds set around the bezel. I think they're really pretty and would like to ask my husband for one for my birthday next month but my (biological) sister thinks they're "beyond tacky" :( Can I get some opinions from you all?
As long as were on the subject; what kind of watch do you have? What kind of watch do you want? |
I have a Gucci gold faced watch...got it in '98.
lol, I'd like my mom's Rolex. Afraid that if it broke on me though, I wouldn't be able to currently afford to send it to the Swiss repair shop (to clean it, it costs $500 plus 6-8 weeks!) |
I have a cute fossil watch. I want the tommy hilfiger watch that movado makes.
|
I wear an antique gold and stainless steel Rolex. My parents surprised me with it for my graduation. I was a little shocked, but it's a beautiful watch.
As for the bright colored watches, I think that they are a little impractical as they are kind of difficult to match. Although, I have always wanted one of those Baby G sport watches in a fun color. |
I've got the techno marine techno diamond watch with the clear straps. http://www.technomarine.com/boutique/idxdiamond.html
I usually just wear my silver Guess Collection watch tho. I love that watch! I WANT the aqua marine watch desperately. In light blue. http://www.aquamarinwatch.com/available_at.html |
I've got a stainless Fossil. Its very low profile, looks like a Cartier.
I'm lusting for an Ebel stainless and gold watch. Rolex is so 80s. :) |
KillarneyRose,
Can you provide a link that shows the watch you are talking about? I haven't seen it yet. Judging from your descripion, I think I agree with your sister. Of course you shouldn't let someone else's opinion dissuade you from getting what you want. That aquamarine watch is beautiful. But I wouldn't be able to justify the cost. I usually wear a watch that looks similar to this one: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/miamiwatch/ny3007.html |
Yeah I can't justify the cost of the aquamarine watch either--unless I sell my novel or screenplay and get a big fat check! hee hee
The techno was pretty expensive too--but less than on the website, thank goodness! |

MIDWESTDIVA - I can't find a link for it, but the watches look very similar to the aquamarine one Amycat was talking about. The Movado ones come in different colors, though. |
the aquamarine comes in diff colors too... but I like the blue one. :)
|
I think that those watches are gorgeous, and not tacky at all. They are really fun! I have a Skagen in pink that looks kind of like those, but it was only about $200. I bought it one day when I forgot to wear my watch.
I just wear a rather plain silver Swiss Army watch. It goes with everything. For dressier occasions, I have a tiny white gold and diamond watch, and a yellow gold Ebel, which is unique and probably really old. My grandfather was a jeweler, and after he and my grandmother passed away :( my dad inherited their home and the old jewelry shop, along with what was left in the safe. |

Tracy,
Tell your sister she's nuts! I saw a pic of one of those Movado watches and have been drooling for one ever since! Then again, I'm a watch slut :p. I have at least 10 and can't keep from wanting more. Now even though I know this is soooo 80's, juniorgrrl ;), does anyone know if Swatch is sold in department stores at all anymore, or if you have to go online or to a Swatch store? There's a new Swatch I want but I don't want to order online, since I have teeny tiny wrists and always need to try watches on. It was in the December Lucky on the same page as the Movado. |
I used to have Swatch watches! I'm not that young :)
And for the record, I'm a kid of the 80s. I was just referring to Rolexes being SO big then. ;) Did anyone else have their Swatches fall apart? The bands on mine would crack and the designs would flake off :( |
lol, I remember having a sea green plastic swatch watch!
I also remember having a strawberry short cake watch when I was way younger- it didn't run on batteries, I'd have to turn the dial and "feed it". :D |
I have a Fossil - I've had it for over four years, and it's worked perfectly the whole time - everyone I know of who has had Fossils has been happy with them. They're not overly expensive, and as long as you're not careless with them, they last. After some of the Kappa Sig events this watch has been through, I'm seriously impressed.
|
I have a really cute Fossil watch with a pink face!! :) Its not that expensive but Im all about colorful stuff and Its just the cutest thing ever!!

My current watch right now is a light blue Swatch :)...unfortunately, the strap is starting to crack. But I love the swatch designs, I guess I just have to change the straps periodically--or at least get one of those "irony" models with the leather straps. Anyway, I got it at Carson Pirie Scott, so I'm assuming the other department stores still carry a few today.

My seiko "perpetual" watch ($430) got stolen out of my dorm room my frosh year, so now I just keep the timex atlantis with my kavu wristband (combined total: $60..little dif)

Killarney, I know the watch you are talking about and it is really cute but I think it is going to be one of those trendy items that nobody wears in a year or two. Just like those super expensive diver's watches in the candy colors, I forget who makes them. Go for something classic. I bought Brent a Submariner for his 30th birthday and he has never taken it off. I'd like to get the one with the blue stone face and the diamonds around the bezel, or there is one with the Rolex logo face I like too in mother-of-pearl.
I had Swatches in every color. I even had the old original pink one that smelled like strawberries or something..... |
There is a Movado that has a black-brown luster face that I almost broke down a bought last year, but had horror visions of losing it the very next day (that happened to a Guess watch I purchased back in high school).
I was looking for function instead of form anyway to replace my old watch. I was looking for a funtioning chronograph that was appropriate for business and designed for a woman's wrist, all within my price range. Boy, was that like pulling teeth. :D I finally stumbled across one by Skagen. I enjoy my watch and get many compliments, especially from men. The fact that it was inexpensive makes it all the more sweeter. One of the few things it's lacking is Swiss movement (uses Japanese), but I've had for a year and haven't had it slip a minute yet. I still have my eye on that black/brown luster Movado though! :) |
Ok, these watches like the ones someone posted at http://www.technomarine.com/boutique/idxdiamond.html
they are cute...but $2040.00?? give me a break! They arent THAT cute...and I do agree, they have trend and fad written all over them. Minus the diamonds, the bands remind me of those little 12 dollar cheapo wal-mart watches you can buy and it comes with like 6 different bands...they also look very "young" and to me would have limited use - because I dont wear anything day to day that is THAT casual. Im all about stainless and white metal. Goes with everything from casual to semi-dressy :) |
