Sorority Swimsuits

These suits aren't terrible, but the cutout idea is kind of...off. Does anyone really want their sorority symbol tanned into their hip?

Right now, they make suits for KKG, DG, and Theta. It looks like they're an unlicensed company.

At $98 apiece, I should hope that it would be 45% off.

kateee 02-06-2013 05:04 PM

I personally think they are very cute. I use tanning stickers in the summer, but they move and fall off. This is unique, and it's like the opposite of a tanning sticker but it won't move. My problem with them is the price, the licensing, and the fact that that style top looks terrible and never stays up on me!

summer_gphib 02-06-2013 05:06 PM

When I clicked on the link I was expecting letters on the crotch/boobs/butt. But honestly these aren't that bad. I would hope they would become licensed... but they aren't that bad, because they aren't in your face. If you didn't know the colors and symbols you really wouldn't know they were sorority specific.

adpiucf 02-06-2013 05:18 PM

super cute! I'd wear the theta one! It's subtle and those are my school colors ;)

angels&angles 02-06-2013 05:20 PM

I actually kind of like them, but I wish the tops were different. You could do a halter with the symbols.

NinjaPoodle 02-06-2013 05:42 PM

Two words:
Not appropriate. The end.
If I EVER saw a soror with this or anything like it on, oh, it's coming off of her and straight to the trash.

It's an okay suit, but I don't think it's in good taste. KD's policy is that it is in poor taste to have a tattoo of our letters, name, crest, or badge. I think tanning a sorority symbol into your hip falls in that category, too.

DubaiSis 02-06-2013 06:19 PM

It's definitely a suit for a particular body type. I don't find it offensive, it's just not a suit I would ever buy, even if I did have a decent figure. The DG one is pretty cute.

ADPiEE 02-06-2013 06:22 PM

Let me preface this by saying I'm a conservative Southern mom....

I would agree that this is not in good taste. Not necessarily because of the symbols but because the suit itself is a little skimpy. I'm sure collegians would love this suit but that's why we have alumnae and moms to remind them about dressing appropriately and respectfully. I hope I don't get flammed for this

Leslie Anne 02-06-2013 06:30 PM

These don't come close to being as bad as the hooker shoes but I still think it's inappropriate.

We have a similar policy & I agree too that the suit itself is ok. I also agree whole heartedly that it's in extremely poor taste and I'll add disrespectful to our founders. This is an example of why I don't support non-licensed vendors of SGRho merchandise.

thetalady 02-06-2013 08:51 PM

I don't think you would end up with a little tan of the symbol. The suit would move around, not laying in exactly the same place every time & you would just get a light blob.

Looks like only Kappa & DG are still available on the site now... maybe the other HQs got wind of them.

AGDLynn 02-06-2013 09:08 PM

And it's gone!;)

WCsweet<3 02-06-2013 09:17 PM

The Theta is gone, but the Kappa and DG remain.

I'm not a big fan of them. However it is better than letters, crest, etc. Anchors are in and anyone could wear it. I don't think the tanning symbol idea would work either. Personally the design isn't my favorite either. I'm not very favorable towards any of the suits, but the bottoms cover more than many suits I've seen recently.

WhiteDaisy128 02-06-2013 11:11 PM

I think the bathing suits are okay. Not my style, but not terrible.

But the choice of photos being used on some of the suites is terrible. There is one photo where the girl straight up has a wedgie. And if you are going to be showing bathing suits in such high resolution (with their zoom feature), they best be VERY diligent about editing out naughty bits, pubic hair, etc.

The suit itself is still there, it's just called the "Fly High!" now instead of KAT. It makes me wonder what will happen to DG's and KKG's and if the company will expand the line.

Yeah, that's not cool. It's not like that's just some random kite. It's clearly Theta's symbol, unlike the DG and Kappa suits which have random anchor and fleur de lis shapes.

This is a new one on me -- I've never heard of tanning stickers or of tanning designs.

I feel really old now.

AZTheta 02-07-2013 10:10 AM

These aren't licensed, and Kappa/DG/Theta HQ will likely put an end to them. Shouldn't be long for Kappa and DG to act. Some of the photos...blechh! Sloppy.

The "fly high" suit clearly has the Theta kite on the bottom, BUT the top has a diamond shape decoration. Fail.

The top isn't gonna work; you'll be tugging at it constantly to keep it up. Get hit by a wave and it's off, which makes for an interesting time at the beach. So much awesome swimwear available, don't see anyone spending $98 on these suits.

Thought: pairing these suits with those godawful shoes... no, just no.

gee_ess 02-07-2013 12:52 PM

Finally got a look at these. Yes, they look cheap and tacky but guess what, I bet they sell! The little Fleur de lis cut out on the KKG one is kind of cute and I can absolutely see my daughter liking it.

However, not licensing the product is a no-no and they will get a letter from the KKG lawyers any day now.

The popular thing at tanning salons around here is tanning stickers, so you can see how dark you are getting when you leave the tanning bed. My aunt and I purchased some online and use them when we are at the pool.

I'm under twenty five and in the same boat...

We used to use tanning stickers all the time in the 80s-90s, especially in tanning beds. We owned a tanning bed back then, and we'd use it to see how dark we were getting! And back then just about everyone tanned!

But then wouldn't you end with a "insert random shape" pale patch in the middle of your tan? (I won't lie, the fact that I burst into flames on cloudy days is making it hard to understand :)) Also, on just a technical matter, the edges of the shapes don't look finished off at all. I would be angry at paying $98 to have to start fraying.

I swear, that Fly High suit was NOT there when I looked at the site yesterday! They must have been in the process of renaming it. It is so clearly a Theta kite....

Yeah, but having a little white heart on your hip when everything else is tan seems to be okay. I'm in the same boat as you with tanning so I'm going off of my sisters. They seemed to enjoy it, plus it helped with the fading. They felt tanner when they could see the difference instead of not knowing and just seeing the tan fade.

33girl 02-07-2013 09:00 PM

I just get a big honkin' 404.

And yeah, this whole idea reminds me of the Playboy stickers people used to use when tanning in the 80s. Back when Hugh Hefner was only 100.

IrishLake 02-07-2013 09:18 PM

A tanning bed near me still has those bunnies. People still use them.

And GAH I think the suits are ugly as sin.

SWTXBelle 02-07-2013 10:13 PM

The suits look cheap - no structure or support, and the cut outs look like my 9 year old did them.

ASTalumna06 02-07-2013 10:55 PM

These suits are terrible! You can tell they're cheap(ly made). I just bought 2 swimsuits and 5 pairs of underwear at Victoria's Secret for $150. Why on earth would anyone buy one of these ugly suits for $100?!

Cheap website, cheap suits. Don't waste your money!

They were small and you put them somewhere discrete... hip, butt, (remember back in those days we tanned nude! LOL) You also tried to get the shape on exactly the same way, so you'd end up getting a little white heart on your hip or wherever. :D
