Does anyone keep their sorority/fraternity sticker on their car after graduating?
I graduated college in December. My parents got me a new car as a graduation present. Would it make me look like I am trying too hard if I put a sorority sticker on my car since I already graduated? I was extremely involved in my sorority, and I was even an officer. I graduated a semester early, so my pledge class still is in school. At what point is it no longer cool to have your sorority sticker on your car? I have already joined the alumni association for my sorority in my area, so I am still active within the Greek community and whatnot. I just started graduate school at the university where I got my undergrad, so I am still hanging out with all the same friends, for one more semester at least!
(Most people that I have asked about this have said that basically the day they graduated, their Greek stickers came off their car, but that just seems sad to me.) I still wear my sorority t-shirts to the gym and whatnot. Is this really the only acceptable way for me to keep parading my letters? I guess I would feel different if I was still driving my old car. I wouldn't take off the decal. I just am unsure since it is a new car. The girl working in the store where I bought the decal looked at me like I was crazy when I bought it because she and I graduated together. She was an XO and already took her sticker off her car!! |
I still have a sticker on my car after being out for almost 4 years, although that's partially because I'm too lazy to scrape it off. It probably depends on where you are in the country. It may be seen as weird in the northeast or west coast, not so much in the south.
|
Acceptable to who?
I've been out of school for some time, but still display my Greek letters and alma mater's logo from time to time. I couldn't care less if someone had something to say about how I choose to display my letters because, well, I'm grown. Do whatever you want to do. They're YOUR letters on YOUR car. |
It's fine if you're a recent grad or a super involved alumna. It starts being weird when it starts feeling weird to YOU.
|
I can beat AngePhiSig! lol I have been out of school for (mumble mumble) years and I still have letters in my back window.
I'm still a DZ; I'm just an alum as opposed to a collegian. Around here, it is really common to see cars sporting HBGLO license plates, plate holders or window decals and I think it's great that they still show off their letters after graduation. I wish I saw more of that in the NPC/IFC world! |
I am a Fiji advisor and have been for over 20 years. While I don't have our crest or FIJI letters in my back window (we are limited to where we can use our Greeks) I do have a replica of our badge: a small, simple black diamond bordered in gold with a white star in the middle. It does not say Phi Gamma Delta or Fiji, but for those who know, it identifies me as a brother.
I like it that our headquarters came up with this because while it works for any age, it definitely is a little more age-appropriate for a graduate brother. I just bought a new vehicle and--yes--it has a black diamond decal in the lower back window! |
I've been an alumnus for almost 30 years now, and I have a coat of arms decal on my rear window.
At least around here, I rarely see (non-NPHC) alumni/ae with letters on their cars unless it's the car they had when they were in school. But seeing coat of arms decals on the cars of alums isn't that unusual. And there is one car I see periodically with an SAE flag decal; the driver clearly is not a student anymore. I've also seen the FIJI decal PS-GRAD describes. (Very cool.) But why should it be viewed any differently from decals, license plate frames or whatever of your alma mater? |
Several members of my alumnae chapter have letter stickers on their cars. I like it, because when I’m attending an event I know I’m in the right place if I see some Chi Omega cars in the parking lot!

I have been out of school for many more years than I care to count, but I have a nice set of letters all ready for my next car:
Greek Chrome Letters You just have to remember that when you are sporting your letters, you better drive nice! |

I only recently added a small crest decal to my car after almost 15 years of being an alum. Now that I'm an advisor and active alum, I wanted to display my involvement. The decal is simple, with no letters, but as PGD-GRAD said, those in the "know"...

Let's just say I pledged decades ago and I've got an AOII Alumna decal on my vehicle.

I used to have AGD as part of my state-issued license plate until I decided I didn't want to keep paying an extra $35 or whatever a year.
So, now I have white letters window decal and a small beany baby squirrel (who is getting sun-lightened!) I keep in the back window. |

I have been out of college for awhile, long enough to have been a chapter advisor for ten years and alot more. My front license plate holder has my Greek Letters and my rear license plate holder has the University that I proudly graduated from.
I have met so many fellow Tri Deltas and Gators because of them. I cannot imagine removing them from my car. |
I have a magnetic decal with a crescent moon and Greek letters. I have purchased them at the last 2-3 conventions from our Atlanta Alumnae Chapter, to pass out as gifts to other advisors, alumnae officers, etc. -- I'm guessing it's OK if an alumnae chapter is selling them as a hot item. As a professor and advisor, every once in a while one of the chapter members will leave me a note when she sees my car.
I'm also back to using the Gamma Phi Beta license plate frame I got while in college. My dad made a point of telling me it was in their garage and I needed to come get it and put it on my car. |
I have chrome letters on my car. Looks pretty nice, too.
|
I have a DG alum sticker on mine (anchor shaped) right next to my Tide Pride (Alabama) sticker on my rear windshield.

I guess what I meant was why should we (Greeks) view it differently? And why should we let others dictate what we can and can't take pride in? |

When I started advising - the chapter had limited parking so the decal was my parking permit. :)
Now we have a license plate holder with letters - but its ob the car my husband usually drives |
2001 grad with letters on her car here. I have a college magnet and the sorority magnet (with our philanthropy logo combined) on the back of my car. I keep them on there for a few reasons...1). I want to display some PR, 2). I'm an advisor and I want to show my girls that it's ok to show support for your school and letters after college, and 3). the letters on the back of my car ensure that I drive better, do not use gestures that are offensive, and just act "right" in the car!
|
I have a crest on the driver rear window of my car. And before I sold my motorcycle (*cry*), I had letters on the fuel tank. When I would drive it to class and park in the garage (before I graduated law school) I always used to wonder if the collegians ever got questions about who the GPhi was with a motorcycle. :)
|
I have a "KKG Alumna" window sticker that was given to me (and the rest of the spring '09 graduates from my chapter). I have never seen anything like it and will be so sad to lose it when it comes time to get a new car.
|
How about a personalized license plate that looks an awful lot like AGDee?
|
Does your magnet look like this? If so that is my creation! Our alum chapter is actually the Atlanta Southern Crescent Alum Chapter (we won Hall of Fame at this past convention!) and we have sold them at conventions :)
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...PhiBmagnet.jpg I have one on my car too! (I also have some decals on my car as well - it's "almost" a beater car so the decals help it look far better than it does! Quote:

My sorority sticker is still on my dad's car (I never had my own car thorough hs/college). I should probably take it back next time I'm over there.

National sent us decals that say:
TKE Alumnus but I'm liking the idea of a small CofA decal in the future. |

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/inarush_2247_1873474373 I know they're a design-your-own sort of thing, but really? Alumni? Of AXiD? This one is available from our online store: http://www.sinfoniastore.org/PDGImag...FULL-thumb.jpg I'd bet most orgs have something like this. |
Ha ha, I noticed that, too...oops for whoever designed the sample for the Website, but hopefully anyone wanting to order one will make sure to spell everything right, and get the gender reference right!

I have an "ASA Alum" sticker on my back window...along with an Oratorio Singers of Charlotte (Charlotte Symphony's choir), a Frenchy and the Punk sticker (cabaret band), Barely Balanced sticker (acrobat troupe) and Alleyn Apprentice Players (Children's troupe from one of the RenFests I work) sticker with their motto - Quando Ominus Flunkus Moritati (BAD Latin for "When all else fails, play dead"). To say I'm eclectic is an understatement. ;)

National gave away stickers that say "KD Alumna" on them for our cars. It is on the back window of my car, but it turns out I can only see it when I'm looking in my rear view window. No one knows it is there. I switched my school alumni license plate frame to a KD one about 10 years ago. Friends love it-- makes my car identifiable in the mass of cars that are identical to mine. Many of us in my Alumnae Chapter have a KD license plate on our car, makes finding the hosting house easier to find when all the cars are parked in front of the same house.

I've been a SigEp alumnus for a year and haven't been in college for a few weeks now, and I damn well won't be shamed out of displaying my letters however I please. I don't have letters on my car right now, though, just because I still haven't decided if I want a sticker or a plate frame. I have my mediocre university on my rear windshield, though, so you bet my awesome GLO will end up back there as well. |
I have a small Euro sticker for each Alpha Xi Delta and Gamma Sigma Sigma on my right bumper. I don't find anything wrong with it. People who aren't familiar with Greek letters or fraternities/sororities probably won't think anything of it, just like how something I don't understand wouldn't register on my radar even if it was right in front of me. Without context, there is often no relevance. So do what you want.
I actually like the chrome letters. Maybe when I trade in my beloved Jeep. |
If I'm coming into town for a Homecoming game and meeting up with fellow Alumnus and the boys then why not. http://www.s4g.com/assets/images/cat...s-cat-icon.jpg
