Northern VA / DC Metro Greek Chatters

I wouldn't mind doing a meet up sometime - who else is from the area?!

IUHoosiergirl88 02-03-2013 08:04 PM

I'm not from here, but I live here now! I'm in Silver Spring, 2 blocks from the Metro there :)

AngelPhiSig 02-03-2013 08:16 PM

I'm not from here either :) I'm from Pittsburgh!

Would you be up for a GC Meetup? We did a Pgh one a few years, okay, probably more like 10 years ago. It was fun.

IUHoosiergirl88 02-03-2013 08:53 PM

Definitely!

NCSigma 02-03-2013 09:06 PM

We're moving that way in June!

Where are you moving to?

NCSigma 02-03-2013 10:28 PM

Not sure yet -- we are looking for a 4BR rental, hopefully in Falls Church or Vienna. I'll be working in Arlington. Seems like the 4BR houses in ARL are out of our price range, unfortunately.

alum 02-03-2013 11:46 PM

^^^Lots of rentals in Burke/West Springfield as there is a high military officer population that rent out their homes when they move away from Washington. It's a bit further out but extremely easy to commute to the Pentagon/Arlington/the District via Metro, VRE or driving your own car.

And in case any of you are interested, the Nprthern VA Panhellenic Association is fairly active.

NCSigma 02-04-2013 02:24 AM

We've lived in the area before, I think Vienna is as far out as we want to go. I'm confident we'll find something that fits us.

Alum, are you part of it? Im kinda interested!

Also, I live further out, past Manassas, but my husband works in Vienna. We wish we could afford to buy, even here, but alas, we cannot.

Benzgirl 02-04-2013 07:38 PM

A few years ago, GC meet up and the thread getting people together is out here somewhere.
I used to stay in Tyson's every week but no longer travel so much for work. ;-)

I can barely make it to my Kappa alum meetings, let alone Panhellenic ones. I do know they are very helpful for prospective college freshmen in search of recs. The NPC website has area coordinators listed by state who can put you in touch with the NoVA group.

I feel for your husband. Having to drive on 66 during rush hour is not fun.

I'm in Maryland, and I would LOVE to come to a get-together! The one we had in Pittsburgh way back when was a lot of fun and it would be nice to do something like that again :)

I wonder if there's any we could get Sheila, Dani and Cheyenne to come down??

TOTALLY... It'd be a Pittsburgh GC meet up here :) I'd gladly open my house up for visitors!
Where are you in MD?

IUHoosiergirl88 02-05-2013 08:43 PM

I'm in downtown Silver Spring!!...so barely MD. I skip out on the DC vehicle taxes ;)

naraht 02-05-2013 10:53 PM

Mongtomery County

I live about 7 miles north of the Northern Point of DC in Aspen Hill, MD (the far SE end of what the Post Office considers Rockville)

Gamma Xi Phi 02-06-2013 12:01 AM

Everyone's welcome to join GXP at our Black History Month event in DC on February 23. It's in the heart of Columbia Heights. Maybe a late lunch/early dinner?

Gusteau 02-06-2013 12:08 AM

You all are making me miss living in Fairfax so much!

AngelPhiSig, I believe the NoVA Alumnae Panhellenic is pretty active. Some of the Mason alumnae I know are involved in it.

GammaGirl1908 02-06-2013 04:09 AM

I'm swamped and barely making it to the meetings I already have (gahhh!) ... but I'm also a couple of blocks from the SS metro, heh.

ADPi95 02-06-2013 10:41 AM

I'm up for a meet-up, but I'm further out like AngelPhiSig.

PhiMu_Lindz 02-06-2013 12:49 PM

Like a few others, I'm just a few blocks from the Silver Spring metro. :)

IUgreekmom 02-06-2013 04:22 PM

Yes the Northern Virginia Panhellenic Group is active and a fun group to be a part of. I am the Scholarship Chairperson this year and we are awarding a $1500 scholarship to both an undergraduate and graduate sorority member who attends a college/university in Virginia. Pass the word!

Just outside of Annapolis but I'm more than willing to travel wherever you have the meetup!

AngelPhiSig 02-07-2013 06:15 PM

How does March look for everyone? Doing it on Badge day would be great, but Im sure not do-able for everyone. I have a BSP meeting on March 9th (and then usually the first Saturday of the month.) So that day is out.

(side note, if anyone is interested in our chapter of BSP, let me know. We are from all over NoVa - and one from York PA, so yeah, not "local".)

Id love to meet you all, and see some old friends again!

alum 02-08-2013 01:16 AM

This sounds like fun to meet in March. Our Province Meeting for KKG is the 1st weekend in March in Arlington but no other greek/panhel conflicts otherwise.

KillarneyRose 02-08-2013 01:49 PM

March works for me!

IUHoosiergirl88 02-08-2013 06:09 PM

March outside of the 8th-16th works for me!
