Survivor Caramoan: Fans and Favorites (Spring 2013)

And the cast is up. Brandon Hantz and Phillip Shepherd are indeed both back. {sigh} But so are Malcolm, Dawn and Cochrane.

Meet the cast video here.

NutBrnHair 01-18-2013 07:02 PM

I already have a FAVORITE...

Hope Driskill is a Chi Omega alumna from Univ. of Missouri and is a former Miss Missouri.

Oh yeah.

Hope seems very nice. She should make the merge and do well this season.

Cochran resembles a character, out of 1960's teen mystery books, named Brains Benton.

SydneyK 02-15-2013 10:09 AM

I got a chance to watch the premiere last night. Some thoughts...

  • I was disappointed to see Francesca get voted out. I've liked her (from what little we've seen) both times she's been on the show.
  • Why was everyone so surprised at Cochran's sunburn? Don't they remember his blindingly pale skin from the last time around? You can't take that kind of skin, expose it to equator-esque sun and expect it to be ok.
  • I am truly grateful for all our service men and women, and I usually root for them whenever I can. I found it disappointing that the Marine yelled out, "Break her wrists!" during the challenge. I get that there's a Marine mentality that may be hard to get out of, but c'mon. This is a game, not war.
  • Was Malcolm this quiet last season? I guess he and Denise had a lot of camera time simply because their tribe dwindled so quickly, and he had to talk to the camera. I was expecting to see more tribe involvement from him this time around. I get the strategy behind flying under the radar, though. I think I'm just curious why he voted the way he did, who he's having conversations with, etc...
  • The group of "high school cool kids" has done a nice job of putting a target on their backs. They're too busy patting themselves on the back for being cool to realize they're being stupid.
Short of Philip and the angry Marine, no one else appears to be toxic - yet.

I'm looking forward to watching this season play out!

NutBrnHair 02-20-2013 07:10 PM

Yeah, I'm already worried about Hope. An alliance of 4 cool kids is nothing but annoying to the others at this point.

SWTXBelle 02-20-2013 09:23 PM

I am so over Phillip and his nasty underwear.

TEAM FANS!

Also, my boys have grown up watching "Survivor" with me. As their grandmother was trying to light a fire in the fireplace, they were cheering her on - "Fire means life!"

Former Federal Agent Underpants seems to have done the impossible -- gotten even more delusional. Brandon seems to have gone even further off the deep end, too. And all of that scribbling all over him!

But I still like Malcolm, Dawn, Cochrane and even Corrine and Brenda. It's going to be interesting to see how Malcolm does, since he's the one favorite whose season no one would have seen play. (This season started filming less than 3 weeks after last season's final tribal council.)

And the other guys are supposed to be fans? Did the fan foursome miss the repeated examples over the years of how coupling often leads to a quick exit from the island? Did Shamar miss all the examples of what can happen to the lazy and disagreeable? Laura, Michael and Sherri impress me. The rest of the fans, not so much. I want to like Reynold, but so far his gameplay is pretty sloppy. Maybe he can pull it together.

AGDee 02-24-2013 01:59 AM

Reynold isn't totally sloppy. I didn't get to watch this week's episode until last night. His finding the HII was pretty darn good. The fact that someone figured out he had it was pretty surprising to me. A bulge in the pocket means he has an idol? I thought he did good when he said at TC that he was going to play it that night and then chose not to.

I don't know how long I can take Phillip and I'm really surprised they kept him at the first TC.

AnchorAlum 02-24-2013 10:07 PM

Can't decide who wins the trophy for the most obvious person to be voted out next - the Marine fan or Brandon (not) Favorite.

I also get this undercurrent of a feeling that there is a certain amount of staging going on with this Survivor. Me no likey.

AGDee 02-24-2013 10:16 PM

Agreed.. because it was chance that Phillip is wearing the same color and style underwear as last time? He always wears pink underwear, right?

AnchorAlum 03-01-2013 10:49 PM

Is anyone else tired of the seemingly planted "idols"???

I know what you mean. I guess the producers decided to stop addressing the Russell factor these days.

On another note...
Enough with the March Madness already. The last two episodes have been on tape delay because of UK basketball games. That has irritated me, but I understand. After all, UK basketball is it's own brand of religion around here. Since Kentucky isn't playing tonight at 8, I thought I'd actually get to watch Survivor when it's aired, but no. I have no interest in the Florida/Vandy game; I want to watch Survivor! Isn't this what ESPN is for, anyway? Argh!

Cheerio 03-08-2013 09:55 PM

Darn Shamar! I wanted a Top Ten All-Male season! Guess there's always a Top Nine...

AnchorAlum 03-09-2013 04:51 PM

So I hope everyone is watching this week for the oh gee what a shock Brandon is going off episode.

Seriously, planted idols and Brandon being an absolute mental case. Shamar is a Marine with two tours and he lets himself come on that show so physically wrecked out that his fat butt can't do anything?

I can't remember when I've wanted to reach through the screen on any other Survivor and just smack somebody. Maybe the chick in the Amazon but that was a while back.

DaffyKD 03-13-2013 11:50 PM

Psycho gives the players a lecture? CBS, time to stop the putting psychos on the show.

PeppyGPhiB 03-14-2013 01:44 AM

That was wild tonight. A Survivor first.

Yeah, you put two total whackos on a tribe together and that's what happens. The women on the favorites tribe were clearly shaken. Their fear seemed genuine.

PeppyGPhiB 03-14-2013 11:13 AM

I think it's interesting that Brandon seems to think he's just like his uncle Russell. I don't think he's anything like him, except for being short.

I hope the favorites continue to win. The Fans had a really bad strategy, almost like they haven't actually watched much of the show. Voting out the strongest players first, just because you don't like the "popular kids" clique of FOUR? You need to worry about beating the other team in the challenges first!

SydneyK 04-04-2013 08:39 AM

Oh, Corinne. Your plan probably would've worked if you hadn't gone blabbing to Dawn. Even if you had simply said, "Let's go with the easy vote [Sherri] tonight, then figure out what to do next," instead of "I don't feel heard! This isn't a democracy! I'm voting Philip out next!" your plan would've been fine.

I feel bad for the rest of her alliance, but she brought this on herself. At least she had a decent exit interview.

summer_gphib 04-04-2013 08:56 AM

I loved that Cochran won immunity last night. And his cocky little dance. I ♥ Cochran!

AnchorAlum 04-10-2013 09:43 PM

Interesting night. So was the whole Malcolm gets Reynolds idol scenario cooked up - ?
Note that Eddie, Reynold, and Malcolm voted for Andrea, after Eddie flirts her up then tells her she is in danger. So she flips from Malcolm and votes Michael and gets a majority to go that route as well.

Brenda winning immunity is interesting. Has there been anyone who has talked less this season than her? By the way, who else has seen her in the cereal ad?

AGDee 04-11-2013 12:01 AM

I thought that was a brilliant move by Malcolm because he wasn't sure whether he was on the chopping block or not. He managed to pull out Reynold's idol, not let on that he has one of his own, and saved his own butt for another day. I think he'll be a big target next though, because he showed how smart he is at this game. He is the type of player who could win multiple immunity challenges in a row, depending on the nature of the challenge, so he could continue on for a bit longer.

Actually if you look at the votes at the very end, Malcolm voted for Reynold. He was Reynold's only vote.

Could anyone tell what Malcolm said when he voted for Reynold? I replayed four or five times but never could understand it?

Phillip looks like more of an idiot every week -- for the founder of Stealth R Us, he just can't stop blabbing. It was obvious that his blabber at TC was casuing wheels to turn in Malcolm's head. If The Specialist had kept his mouth shut and if Andrea hadn't let her insecurities get the better of her, Malcolm probably would have been totally blindsided.

And Malcolm's move was brilliant.

Meanwhile, I'd be sorely tempted if it didn't mean money in the retired federal agent's pocket:

That's hilarious!

He is creepy scary to me though.

Incase someone didn't PM you, Malcolm said:

"The idea was this was a throwaway vote. After Phillips little speech I don't know what's going on anymore. Hopefully someone doesn't screw the plan."

Thanks! All I could catch was "throwaway vote."

Interesting.

PeppyGPhiB 04-15-2013 01:47 PM

I love Phillip's crazy. The season would be much more boring without him. I miss the "?" next to his "Former Federal Agent" title, though.

AGDee 04-17-2013 10:43 PM

Another brilliant move! That is truly "Outwit"

I'm on the fence about that being a brilliant move: I really enjoyed watching that Tribal, but I'm still worried about what the future has in store for those three guys. The numbers aren't in their favor - it's 6 to 3. Still, it was fun to see the huge smiles on their faces! I see the move as a temporary "Outwit" for now.

I was surprised... well, maybe not surprised... but I found it interesting that Eric switched. He was the only one, right?

Is it safe to assume that the recently played HIIs will be re-hidden? If so, those boys better start looking!

AGDee 04-18-2013 04:01 PM

I don't know... the Sheep may be lost without their leader. I wouldn't doubt that some of them would jump ship at this point and follow Malcolm instead. The way they followed Phillip was downright creepy.

True.

I was hoping that they were simply placating Phillip until they got down to the core 7, but it's hard to tell. Sometimes I thought they were going along with it just to keep him quiet; other times, I think you hit the nail on the head with the "downright creepy" comment.

Either way, I'm just glad Phillip's gone.

AGDee 04-18-2013 06:20 PM

What makes me think they really were his sheep was the way they instantly turned on anybody who suggested they get rid of Phillip.

PeppyGPhiB 04-19-2013 02:52 AM

I will miss the "Former Federal Agent?" Stealth R Us is sooooooo boring without the supreme leader. I'm Team MRE at this point.

AnchorAlum 04-20-2013 12:28 PM

Am I the only one who gets the feeling that we're seeing one of the most highly edited seasons of Survivor EVER?

Finally got a chance to watch, and it was brilliant.

People followed Phillip for two reasons -- he could make their lives miserable and maybe end their game if they crossed him/Stealth R Us (Corrine) and they wanted to be in the final three with him because there was no way he would win. The desire to be in the final three with him drove going along with him and not crossing him. I think with Phillip gone, Stealth R Us is gone, too. Eric may already have bolted. If previews are any indication, Sherri might. Andrea has reason to. Dawn, Brenda and Cochrane just may be in trouble.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens next.

AGDee 04-20-2013 10:56 PM

He could make them miserable if they didn't follow him, but only if they kept him around! If enough of them had turned on him, he would have been gone. I do understand why they would want to take him to the final 3 although I could see that backfiring too. If I were on a jury, I would vote for the leader of the pack who controlled the whole game to win. At this point, my vote would go to Malcolm for sure though. Two outwits in a row.

Anchor- Why do you feel that this is more edited than other seasons?

SydneyK 04-25-2013 08:58 AM

Well, drat. That's what I was afraid of. If Malcolm had kept that second HII secret last week (instead of giving it to Eddie), he'd still be around. It's hard to see him go when someone like Sherri is still in the game. Ugh.

AGDee 04-25-2013 06:09 PM

I was afraid that would happen also. If he had kept the idol last week though, Phillip would still be there too.

MysticCat 04-27-2013 06:05 PM

I was afraid it would happen too, but I'm still glad they played all the idols last week -- that was a TC not to be forgotten, and it got Phillip out of the game.

I hate to see Malcolm gone, but I would be very happy seeing Cochrane win or seeing Reynold pull it off.
