Vacation spots you want to go to, or have plans to go to...

I want to kick it in Johannesburg, South Africa. I haven't made any plans to go, but, as soon as I get my finances tight again, I definitely want to make plans with my fiance' to go. One of my boys just came back from there on business. Dude said he loves it there. He said it's like a bigger/warmer version of Chicago.

Any of y'all have any dream places you want to visit, or are there any places you are planning on going to?

adpimiz 12-18-2012 04:28 PM

The Bahamas, or really anywhere in the Caribbean. My parents took me on a cruise when I was about 11, but I was really too young to enjoy it then. I would love to go back! Tropical places are my favorite.

Tulip86 12-18-2012 04:45 PM

Japan!

Would also love to see more of the middle east, but right now, I'm not taking the risk.

Botswana is also on my list.

PiKA2001 12-18-2012 05:38 PM

I'm going to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic Dec '13 for my cousin's (who is a DG btw) wedding. I've never been to the Caribbean, let alone an all inclusive resort (Hard Rock) so I'm looking forward to it.

clarinette 12-18-2012 06:16 PM

I want to visit all of Great Britain. I just love all the culture in each country!

cheerfulgreek 12-18-2012 07:22 PM

Italy and Greece. It's just that my mom was born and raised in southern Greece, and my dad was born in Italy, but raised in the U.S. I'd like to visit my "roots" one day. :)

DubaiSis 12-18-2012 07:40 PM

I don't have anything booked yet, but I really do have to get to Oahu and Kauai (for business), and Machu Picchu is at the top of my bucket list.

Tulip86, most of the Middle East is perfectly safe, in fact WAY safer than here. You probably wouldn't be going to Saudi Arabia, Yemen or Syria, which I wouldn't recommend, and Israel hasn't had a day of peace in 2500 years, so I wouldn't let the occasional threat of war slow you down if that's on your list. Very few foreigners ever get caught in that cross-fire anyway; they fight mostly amongst themselves. But UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan are all fine, and Lebanon is just currently having a blip. They'll be fine again shortly. And Egypt outside Cairo is also perfectly fine, although technically not Middle East.

I Phi 1963, I just came across a fantastic promotion for South Africa, so how convenient is that? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...type=1&theater And yes, that's my work Facebook page, but I really did get this promotion about an hour before reading your post.

I really want to visit Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, since I have traveled some other places in the Middle East already, and I've heard wonderful things about those countries. I know most countries in the Middle East are very safe, never felt unsafe in any of the countries I visited there.

Qatar is also on the to-go-list, but at the moment, financially out of my reach.

DubaiSis 12-18-2012 08:29 PM

Jordan should be the top of anyone's list. It was really amazing. And while there's some trouble happening in Lebanon, to me it's not worth putting off a trip if that's what you want to do. During the war in the Balkans, people traveled literally through an active war to get to Medjugorje. As far as I know, no pilgrims ever died in Yugoslavia en route, and that was way more violent than anywhere in the Middle East, except Syria. There was a window in about 2011 when you could go to Syria. Now, I would plan roughly for 2015.

I don't mean to be crass, but next time you hear about violence in one of those countries, count heads. Is it worse than how many got killed last week in Chicago or New York or LA? And yet you wouldn't think twice about going to New York to go Christmas shopping.

Tulip86 12-18-2012 08:58 PM

That doesn't really have anything to do with my reasons for not traveling there, like I said, I know the Middle East is quite safe, I´m not so naive to think the US is the safest place to be.
But since I want to combine Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, I'll just put it off for a while. One of my best friends made that trip, and I loved the idea of combining them. Since I get a few weeks off , but can´t take those weeks off separately, I´m aiming for one big trip!

If I can make a suggestion for someone who wants to experience an Arabic country, but doesn´t want to go to the Middle East per se, I´d say check out Tunisia. It is an amazing country, with a lot of culture, beaches and amazing scenery. The people are welcoming and laid back. One of the most amazing trips I´ve ever made (and budget friendly too!)

One of the guys in my BF's fraternity just came back from South Africa after a 6 month internship. He loved Johannesburg, said the vibe was really good, great people, a lot to see and do.
He said Cape Town was a must-see as well.

Yeah, I heard Cape Town was nice as hell.

Still BLUTANG 12-19-2012 01:03 PM

there more i travel the world, the more i want to explore the US. I'm an east coast girl so Denver, San Francisco, Seattle and Vegas are on next year's domestic travel agenda.

txAOII_15 12-19-2012 01:10 PM

^^^ SF is a great city. Let me know if you need any tips on what to do here :)

happilyanchored 12-19-2012 02:31 PM

I really want to go to England, Australia, Morocco, Southern France, Spain, and the Bahamas!

DubaiSis 12-19-2012 03:05 PM

That's a quirky mix! I've been to some of the above and like them for different reasons. But you can tie in Morocco with Spain and do a nice trip including crossing the Straits of Gibraltar.

happilyanchored 12-19-2012 03:10 PM

Yeah, most of them are because I have friends who have been abroad in those places and they've been amazing and now I want to go have the same adventures! Also I've already been to the south of france, but it's easily my favorite place I've ever been, it was just so incredibly beautiful. Nice especially. I would almost be ready to sell all the stuff I made/bought for my little next semester to go back (well, almost)!

Sciencewoman 12-19-2012 09:00 PM

Places I really wanted to visit and I've been there (* means I really want to go back):

*Alaska
Norwegian Fjords
*Australia
United Kingdom (*Edinburgh and more of Scotland)
Grand Canyon
Yellowstone Park

Places I still want to visit:

New Zealand
Hawaii
Iceland
Lake Louise in Canada
Antarctica (just to say I've been there)
My dream trip would be an around-the-world cruise

And one place I've been to that I could care less about visiting again:

Las Vegas

AlphaFrog 12-19-2012 09:41 PM

Isle of Skye, Scotland:

Bavaria, Germany:

And pretty much all of Ireland:
http://etadventures.com/city_images/1326137286100.jpg

I'd also like to go back and visit the in-laws:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5030/5...4969f7ed92.jpg

Tulip86 12-19-2012 09:54 PM

The Isle of Skye is gorgeous, I've been there. You have to catch it on a (rare!) sunny day though. If it rains, it really rains. Gets very misty too.

Bavaria is also very beautiful, easy to travel as well. Great public transport and the roads are good. Great for traveling with kids.

One thing I forgot on my to do list:
me and my BF are planning a roadtrip through the Southern/Western States (from Key West, via Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas , New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Nevada to LA) Probably going to be summer of 2014

Sciencewoman 12-19-2012 10:05 PM

I'd also like to go back and visit the in-laws:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5030/5...4969f7ed92.jpg[/QUOTE]

AlphaFrog, where is this?

You're making me jealous that we didn't get to the Isle of Skye. :(

AlphaFrog 12-19-2012 10:38 PM

San Andres-Tuxtla, Veracruz, Mexico - this is the Salto de Eyipantla. It's about an hour north of the in-laws. They live on the side of a mountain in a quiet little village and it is BEAUTIFUL. It was the most stress-free ten days of my adult life - and it was the first time I met my in-laws. If it weren't for the crappy school system, I'd move there in a heartbeat.

misscherrypie 12-19-2012 11:27 PM

I'm studying abroad in Prague next summer, and am really looking forward to that. I've wanted to go for years!

I'd like to visit Israel again, Birthright was so much fun when I went along with making so many memories. I hope to be able to travel there for a month or so after I finish Grad School.

BAckbOwlsgIrl 12-20-2012 12:29 AM

My list...
  • Mali
  • Malaysia
  • Mongolia
  • Thailand
  • Algeria
  • Iran - when it is not so bad. Up until the hikers got taken, it was not bad. There are tour groups that go over there.

Secondary List;
  • Turkey
  • Italy
  • Greece
  • Sweden
  • Jordan

Yah, I know, I have a thing for countries with M's.

Dad wants to a father-daughter bonding trip to India so I will go there.
Also thinking of France

Spain was cool. UK was ok. Not much into Western culture.

AGDee 12-20-2012 12:32 AM

I really want to go to Italy.

PrettyBoy 12-20-2012 08:24 AM

Already planned and ready:
Martha's Vineyard August 25th, 2013 for a week.
http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/family-...s-vineyard.jpg

Planning:
24 Heures Du Mans (24 hours of Le Mans) June 2015

Want to go to Monaco eventually.

flirt5721 12-20-2012 10:56 AM

Since my husband finally gave the ok to travel international:

Want to go:
Hawaii
Alaska
New York
Florida
Italy
Greece
Spain
parts of Mexico (Cabo being planned for spring 2014)
Egypt

Places I've been:
Southern California
Denver
All over New Mexico
Philadelphia
Dallas
Odessa
Puerto Penasco (Rockey Point), MX
Juarez, MX (when it was safe)

lovespink88 12-20-2012 03:26 PM

I've been to Puerto Rico quite a bit (estimating around 15 times). I have family there and back in '07 my parents bought a home there, so I'm quite familiar. If anyone is interested in traveling there, I HIGHLY recommend venturing outside of San Juan. San Juan is just another big city. My family & parents home is on the west side of the island. Lots of really pretty beaches over there! Of course there's also the big rain forest El Yunque (I've only been there once, I was little), awesome surfing in Rincon and I believe I have heard the beaches in Vieques are stunning. There's also really cool caves to explore in different parts of the island. Just go beyond San Juan!!

As far as I want to go, I'd love to go to the following:

England (my husband makes fun of me, but honestly my biggest reason is I want to see a bunch of Beatles stuff. So sue me.)
Brazil
Germany, preferably if we could catch some of Oktoberfest
Spain
Italy

DubaiSis 12-20-2012 04:15 PM

Here's my current bucket list
1-Machu Picchu (along with Galapagos where I am looking forward to snorkeling)
2-Rome
3-Croatia
4-safari
5-India safari
6-Norwegian Fjords
7-Alaska cruise-tour
8-Kauai and Oahu
9-Tahiti, probably via cruise on Paul Gauguin
10-river cruise through Germany, Austria and Hungary

Except for Machu Picchu being at the top of my bucket list, the rest are inter-changeable as far as where they fall. One of my clients just picked up her documents for her trip to Costa Rica and Peru and I'm SOOOOO jealous. 2 weeks, everything top of the line. Perfect.

cheerfulgreek 12-20-2012 04:20 PM

I would love to visit the Brazilian Rainforest, too. I mean, it's just that there are so many bugs, spiders, reptiles, etc. there that I would never be able to see here in the states. Not even a zoo could contain all that is there.

DubaiSis 12-20-2012 07:52 PM

Adding to my list, I've been on a Med cruise, but I really want to go on Celebrity Reflection, and the Reflection Suite in particular. The shower is cantilevered out over open air and then the sea! Cool.

CutiePie2000 12-27-2012 01:21 AM

Places that I have been to, based on continents (i.e. I have been to every continent except Antarctica)

NORTH AMERICA:
Canada - (all of the provinces and territories, save for the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Newfoundland)

USA - Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Massachusetts, Montana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan)

Mexico - 7x in total -- Barra de Navidad, Mazatlan, Huatulco (2x), Riviera Nayarti, Los Cabos, Playa Blanca.

Cuba - 2x and honestly, the food is isht, all inclusive or not.

SOUTH AMERICA:
Argentina - loved it, would go back
Chile
Uruguay

AUSTRALIA
-just Australia, no other part of Oceania, such as New Zealand

AFRICA:
South Africa (Went to Jo'Burg and Capetown. Capetown is beautiful)
Zimbabwe
Botswana - good animal sightings here

ASIA:
China
Malaysia
Singapore
Vietnam
Hong Kong (this was pre-1997)

EUROPE:
Germany
Austria
Italy
Finland
England
Belgium
Holland
Denmark
France
Latvia
-----------------

I would like to visit the TEENY TINY European countries such as Monaco, Lichtenstein, Andorra, San Marino and so on....

I'd also like to visit more of the southern US such as Georgia and South Carolina.

Tulip86 12-27-2012 07:41 AM

Wow! Major travelling! I would love to go to Botswana, have heard some amazing things.

Monaco is pretty, but I didn't think it was that amazing, nearby St Tropez and Cannes are way more beautiful.

Just an FYI
Holland is NOT a country. It's called the Netherlands.
It's like saying South Dakota instead of USA.

(most people don't know this, but Holland is just a province of The Netherlands)

ASUADPi 12-27-2012 08:34 AM

United States: I'd like to go to Hawaii, Alaska, back to NYC, Washington D.C., Florida (Disneyworld et al)

Canada

Europe- pretty much everywhere in Europe, especially Germany.

England and Ireland (not sure if they would count under Europe)

Australia and New Zealand

South Africa

South America: Brazil, Honduras (I'd like to visit again)

I'm a big cruise fan so, I would like to take cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Europe. I would also like to take a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean (U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Bahamas).

This is beautiful, but I think I'd be too nervous to enjoy it. Have you been to the CN Tower in Toronto? They have a plexi-glass floor section. You can look straight dooooooown. Kids were jumping on it, and it gave me the willies.

DubaiSis 12-27-2012 02:33 PM

It's kind of a moot point. A cruise in this suite for 2 people is about $20,000+, so we'll call it a smidge outside my budget.

Sciencewoman 12-27-2012 03:03 PM

Yikes! I was wondering about the cost.
