Greeks Doing Good

Okay, we've all heard or had the complaints that Greeks generally only get press when they've done something bad.

Here's your thread to show when Greeks do something good. Raised a fantastic amount of money for a philanthropy? Post it here. A huge group volunteers at a school? Post it here. A chapter member rescued a baby kitten from a tree? Post it here.

To get us started:

Penn State Greeks created a video for "It Gets Better". Kudos to them and enjoy:

Tri Delta raised $4.2 MILLION for St. Jude during the past year, and just 3 years into our $15 in 5 campaign, we have raised over $10 million. I think this is a pretty astronomical number, but it all puts things into perspective once you've seen the hospital. My collegiate chapter visits the hospital each summer, and it has really motivated them to step up their fundraising efforts.

Article about Pi Kappa Phi at Colorado State University stepping in to help with Sigma Phi Epsilon's community service. Sig Ep has been suspended at CSU and is facing closure, but a member wanted to make sure that the community service project went on. Kudos to both groups.

WooHoo! My nephew is a Pi Kappa Phi at CSU. I wasn't aware of this, but will reiterate to him what a good group he's found.

The Indiana University Panhellenic started a go fund me type site for the sister of Hannah Wilson, the Gamma Phi who was killed Little 500 weekend. The site intended to raise $24,000 the cost of a year's tuition and room & board at IU. To date the site has raised over $40,000. At least, that is one less thing the family will have to worry about come fall.

Let's keep this thread going! I would love to have an idea of total monies raised by National Greek Organizations this year alone for their local and National philanthropies.

"DeAsia Romes of Conway, a 22-year-old University of Central Arkansas student, climbed Pinnacle Mountain in Little Rock for the first time last week.

Her wheelchair stayed in the car.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2bY9N6I ) reports that six UCA fraternity members took turns giving piggyback rides to Romes, who has cerebral palsy and is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.

"We went up one side, and it was gorgeous," she said."

"Seniors Benjy Richards, 25, of Greenwood and Cesar Ramirez, 21, of Rogers, members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at UCA, spearheaded the trip."

Members of an Alpha Phi Alpha chapter raised money to pay off school lunch debt at an elementary school in Summerville, SC.

“The crisis of lunch debt is something that we are seeing all across the United States,” Damien Seabrook, President of Xi Phi Lambda said. “The Brothers of Xi Phi Lambda saw this as a project that we could get behind and we knew that our community supporters would help to support it as well.”
