I have tons since I read so much, however, listed below are my TOP TEN.

1. The Coldest Winter Ever
2. Sister Sister by Eric Jerome Dickey
3. Friends and Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey (in the works I heard)
4. Cheaters by EJD
5. Milk in My Coffee by EJD
6. Mama by Terry McMillan
7. Scenes of a Sistah by Lolita Files
8. Getting to the Good Part by Lolita Files
9. Your Blues Ain't Like Mine by Bebe Moore CAmpbell
10. Brothers and Sisters by Bebe Moore Campbell

This is NOT even 1/2 my list but I want to hear what you think.

Try these on for size!!!!

Child of God----Lolita Files
The Wind Done Gone-----?
Please,Please, Please------?
God Don't Like Ugly------?

I read so many books that usually I never know who the authors are, unless it's somebody that is pretty well known. I KNOW when I'm reading an EJD, BeBe Moore Campbell or Terry McMillan book. ;)

straightBOS 12-15-2001 11:23 PM

"The Wind Done Gone" is by Alice Randall, and exceptional read, I highly reccommend it anyone.

"Possessing The Secret of Joy" by Alice Walker, deeeeeeeppppp

Sorority Sisters ~ Tajuana Butler

RRMDQT 12-17-2001 03:27 AM

What about E. Lynn Harris? His books are too addictive. If he had a movie to come out I would have to buy it and watch it over and over again.

Invisible Life and If This World Were Mine are my favorites.

Note: I thought I heard that Sorority Sisters is already in the works to becoming a movie, maybe I'm wrong.

smlwonderdst 12-19-2001 11:17 AM

I would like to see anything by Eric Jerome Dickey or E. Lynn Harris go to the big screen. They are some fantastic writers.

ClassyLady 12-19-2001 03:16 PM

Flyy Girl - Omar Tyree
This Too Shall Pass - E. Lynn Harris
What You Owe Me - Bebe Moore Campbell

Aislynn 12-20-2001 07:32 PM

Here are my picks:

I'd love to see the escapades of Basil Henderson, in a television series. I love E. Lynn Harris and after reading all of his books, I've decided a movie would not do justice.

Child of God- Lolita Files

Here and Now- Kimberla Lawson Roby

Shades of Justice- Linda Mckeever Bullard

Sorority Sisters- Tajuanna Butler

CrimsonTide4 12-21-2001 07:31 AM

I agree with all of your choices and ABSOLUTELY cannot believe I left out Kimberla Lawson Roby's Here and Now.

More Picks
1. Tumbling by Diane McKinney Whetstone
2. Homecourt Advantage by Rita Ewing and Crystal McCrary
3. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
4. Incidents in the Life of A Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs
5. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
6. Love's Deceptions by Charlene Berry
7. Sister Secrets by Breggie James
8. Beyond Our Mother's Footsteps
9. Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain
10. A Day Late and A Dollar Short by Terry McMillan

Yolanda Joe's books
Sheneska Jackson's books
Franklin White's books

Told you I read a lot.

I agree. Maybe Showtime or HBO would pick that up because he will not be on @ 9:30 after the Bernie Mac show.

MeezDiscreet 12-22-2001 06:46 PM

e. lynn harris' books would definitely have to be a series! books i would like to see are...

flyy girl
cheaters
sister, sister
mama by terry mcmillan

and, in search of sisterhood. because i've acted it out in my head so many times, i would love to see the separation/founding/incorporating acted out

PrettyPetite 12-23-2001 10:59 PM

Definitely "The Coldest Winter Ever"!

Winter should be played by Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Midnight--Morris Chestnut, or Omar Epps.
Santiaga--Hmm. Not sure. Maybe someone like Wesley Snipes could pull it off.

I don't know about the rest of them. :p

Santiaga was of Spanish descent so unless Wesley is going to do a WONG FOO move again, count him out.

I think Rosario Dawson from Light It Up would make a good Winter. Jada is too old. Jada could, however, play Winter's mom.

Since I'm not a BIG Jada Pinkett fan, I move that Lisa Raye (from the Player's Club and The Source All Access) be Winter's mom. And even if I did like Jada, I think that Lisa would be better suited for the "bad bytch" role. She's all 'tude!!! ;)

Steeltrap 12-24-2001 01:31 PM

Brothers and Sisters

I would also love to see Brothers and Sisters made into a movie, although it deals with events roughly about 10 years ago (the LA rebellion). I used to live in the neighborhood Ms. Campbell references.

It would have to be a period piece, and perhaps on pay cable. I don't see UPN doing it, even though it's a "Black" network.

Rain Man 12-26-2001 05:43 PM

Good Brothers Looking for Good Sisters by Jawanza Kunjufu--A story about 6 Black men who cannot find a good woman. One is a CPA who owns his own firm, one is a widower whose wife died giving birth to his surviving son; the women love him, but not his son. One is a "nerd" who now dates White women because Black women wouldn't give hime the time of day in high school and college. One is a driver for UPS, one is a Black activist, one is a teacher who has a crush on a women who likes him "as a sister" but dates thugs.

I would LOVE to see a movie based on that.

The Maintenance Man by Michael Baisden (host of "Talk or Walk").

It is actually being made into a movie to be released in 2002 or 2003. Some of the scenes in the book are on the serious XXX tip, though, and that's by the time you get to page 10 of the book. I dunno if those will be in the movie or not. Who knows?

That's just to name a few though. More later.

Don't hate on Jada...

Jada Pinkett-Smith bought the rights to "The Coldest Winter Ever", and I believe she's planning on playing the role. Better her than Lisa Raye, who CANNOT ACT HER WAY OUT OF A PAPER BAG. I'd like to see Jada as Winter's mom rather than Winter, but I'd rather see Jada or ANYBODY WHO CAN ACT play Winter instead of Lisa Raye. Rosario Dawson would be good as Winter.

SANTIAGO NEEDS TO BE PLAYED BY JEFFREY WRIGHT (he played Peoples Hernandez in "Shaft" and was in Ali and played MLK Jr. in HBO's "Boycott").

For the role of the oh so fine Midnight, my vote goes to Mekhi Phifer...maybe Omar Epps would be aiight too. My dream Midnight would be the Minnesota Vikings Randy Moss tho - he just seems like Midnight to me for some reason.

Sista Souljah can play herself, LOL.

I think they're making e. lynn harris' "Invisible Life" into a movie for Showtime or something like that. You know showtime has NO PROBLEM showing homosexual sex. The problem will be FINDING BROTHAS TO PLAY THE ROLES. I read somewhere that Showtime's "Queer as Folk" has been desperately seeking black men to be on the show, but no black men want to play a homosexual (even the ones who ARE homosexual, LOL).

I'd love to see "Kindred" by Octavia Butler made into a movie. Also, "The Wind Done Gone" - I loved it and would love to see it made into a movie.

OH, and the BOMB movie is going to be "My Soul To Keep" by Tananarive Due - Blair Underwood has the rights and is making it into a movie (and is starring as David/Dawit). I don't know when it's going to be released tho.

I agree he would be perfect I think to play Santiago. I can see him in that role now!

This also gets a thumbs up from me, I can't wait to see that movie, because that book as you have stated was the bomb indeed.:)

MARRIED MEN

Married Men by Carl Weber would be a good one
Addicted by Zane
Knowing by Rosalyn McMillan

Bamboozled 05-09-2002 11:15 AM

Married Men

CT4, I just finished reading Married Men and I enjoyed it. I'm usually not a big fiction reader, but this one surprised me. As I was reading, I had the following people in mind as the main characters (forgive me for not knowing names):

Kyle - Dude who is now on One on One and always plays the sidekick (short, stumpy dude)
Jay - Tall, dark skinned dude who played in The Brothers
Allen - Wimpy dude with the dreds from Best Man
Wil - Radio Raheem

What do you think?

CTHU @ your descriptions
Kyle = Kelly Perine (one on one)
Brothers cast -- Mo Chest :D, Bill Bellamy and DL Hughley were the tall dark skinned men

I gotta think on tihs one.

Bamboozled 05-09-2002 11:28 AM

Oops, I didn't mean to say The Brothers. I meant to say The Wood. Tall, dark skinned dude from The Wood.

Ok, I just found out his name: Richard T. Jones and he played Slim.

As a member of the E. Lynn Harris fanclub, I get e-mail updates from the author. I received one last week stating that one of his books (I think Invisible Life) had been picked up for production by one of the major TV networks. (Sorry the details are so sketchy. I deleted the e-mail by accident).

kissy324 05-10-2002 08:29 AM

With no doubt, "Colder Winter Ever", is my number one choice.

I would also like to see: "Please, Please, Please", "Tumbling", and "Casting the First Stone (did I get the name right?)"

I've read books # 1, 2, 5, & 6 (will get around to buying and reading # 3 & 4), and agree that these should become movies. However, I have my personal preference on who should play the main characters in "The Coldest Winter Ever."

1. Winter- Taral Hicks
2. Ricky Santiaga- Giancarlo Esposito
3. Midnight- Omar Epps, Richard T. Jones, or Mo Chest :D :p
4. Mama Santiaga- Khandi Alexander
5. Natalie- Lil' Kim

As for Mama by Terry McMillan, I really have no preference as to who'll play the children, but I think the Mama Mildred Peacock should be played by no other than Millie Jackson!!! She just seems too perfect for the part! :D

Those are my rays of sunshine. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/natur/sunny.gif Until next time, people!!!

I met my Phrat Carl Weber so I have to say Married Men and A DO Right Man by Omar Tyree and Maintance Man.

CrimsonTide4 10-29-2002 10:50 PM

These books are written for teens in mind by a teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio but they need to be bought to the big screen and SOON:

Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper
Forged By Fire by Sharon Draper

She has 2 others but those 2 are the more well known. Yes she is a BLACK author. I HIGHLY UNEQUIVOCALLY recommend them to anyone with teens or works with teens.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-30-2002 12:22 AM

My Picks.....

I love to read and I've read so much that the books have begun to run together but if I had to choose they would be

1. The coldest winter ever (I read somewhere that they're working on this)

2. God don't like ugly

3. Tumbling

4. Bailey's Cafe (Gloria Naylor)

5. Family (J. California Cooper)

6. In the light of my father's smile (Alice Walker)

7. The living is Easy (Dorothy West)

8. Mama (Terry McMillian)

9. ANYTHING BY E. LYNN HARRIS!!!!!!!!

DOESN'T EVERYTHING STOP WITH #9!!!!!!!!!!!

poodleNtraining 10-30-2002 11:10 AM

Definately The Coldest Winter Ever!! What about Sonny off of General Hospital, He's Used to that kind of role LOL. I like Jada as Winter, shed be able to carry the attitude. I know she's older now, but she still looks young, and you know the miracles they can work with make-up. I'd also like to see Coffee Will Make You Black and Ain't Gonna Be The Same Fool Twice, by April Sinclair, I love those two books. Also,

-Flyy Girl and/or For the Love of Money
-Oh and Mama is NEVER gonna be made, when Terry McMillan was on Oprah, she said she'd never do it, its too close to her, but I'd LOVE to see that as a movie!
-A real Disappearing Acts
-Cheaters by EJD

JJSP01 10-30-2002 11:21 AM

I'd have to say:

Scenes from a Sistah-Lolita Files and One Better- Rosalyn McMillan

And since I'm such a Dean Koontz fan I'll add The Bad Place to my list.
