Lilly Sorority 2013 class predictions

Any guesses about which sororities will get 2013 prints?

The guesses among my panhel group of friends is:

1. Zeta Tau Alpha
2. Alpha Chi Omega
3. Gamma Phi Beta
4. Alpha Gamma Delta

Which are the biggest groups yet to have a print. We think AXO and AGD have been passed over previously because of their less than adorable colors.
While we think Zeta and Gamma are very likely (the Zeta among us likes to whine that someone in that department probably was rivals with Zeta in college).

We did it based on size/location (because if the sorority is mainly in the south, they'll sell more merchandise)

The ones we think are possible are:
Alpha Sigma Alpha
Phi Sigma Sigma- though they're not huge in the south...

The ones we think probably won't happen for a while:
Alpha Epsilon Phi- Smaller, and doens't have a huge southern pull
Sigma Sigma Sigma- On the smaller side
Alpha Sigma Tau- Smaller
Delta Phi Epsilon- Smaller
Sigma Delta Tau- Smaller, very northern
Theta Phi Alpha- Smaller

Anyone else have any guesses?

ADPi95 11-02-2012 06:24 PM

I like your predictions. Definitely ZTA and AXO!

EXCUSE ME? :p;)

What's wrong with red, buff (yellow) and green?

SigKapSweetie 11-02-2012 06:34 PM

I would've agreed with the color-based reasons for skipping AXO and AGD at first, except Chi O already has a pattern and their colors are similar (and NOT particularly compatible with the Lilly palette).

DeltaBetaBaby 11-02-2012 06:45 PM

I'm not sure...I kinda think they want to break it up enough that there is at least one of the really big groups in each print class, because that helps them generate buzz.

Well, I don't know that black and gold is adorable by any stretch of anyone's imagination (sorry I can't insert stick out tongue smilie because my GC buttons are all little blue boxes with question marks in them).

Besides, take a look at what Lilly did for Theta. (insert rolleyes smilie here).

Thinking that maybe Lilly will select based on something other than size of membership, but I know not a thing about what their criteria are.

PS (in tiny print) the AOII scary pandas made me feel a little better about our print. Not a lot, but a little.

These are possibilities, but I would have thought that Zeta Tau Alpha would have been in the very first group of prints. Also, remember that thanks to certain websites, Lilly Pulitzer right now is all (and I mean ALL) the rage in sororities in the Northeast, and they know it (not saying it's any less popular in the South). In any event, I would expect that they'll save one of the larger groups for the very last set of prints in order to maximize the hype and PR for the last release.

I hope they get all of this out of the way soon, and I can't wait until we all have our prints. We ALL deserve them :)

DeltaBetaBaby 11-02-2012 08:04 PM

Don't forget, y'all, the D9 groups seriously dwarf the NPC groups in membership.

Also, I think a panhellenic print could be cool

I'm not sure that Brown and Mode are in the Lilly motif. Sure you can throw pink in... but it would definitely have to have brown, and I don't think I've ever seen any Lilly in brown.

DubaiSis 11-02-2012 09:22 PM

I think it's way more dollars and cents based. Not that the big dollars were first, but that they needed to spread out the big money sororities (big southern presence, along with lots of chapters nationwide). So in both of the previous announcements, a couple of the biggest sororities and a couple mid-size sororities were included. That way the next round can happen with a huge bang, like a ZTA would. I don't think the colors has much to do with it. I love our colors and think they are fabulously cute. And Lilly chose a really odd interpretation of said double blue and gold. If they don't like AGD's red buff and green they could easily go brick red, beige and forest green and get away with it. I don't think they should, but they'd get away with it if they decided they didn't like the brighter colors.

I thought the exact same thing! I think red, buff, and green look great together!

adpimiz 11-02-2012 09:55 PM

When does the public find out which sororities get a print and when do they come out?

I wish there was a planner available in the ADPi print right now! I do really like the phone case and will probably order it.

GeorgiaGreek 11-02-2012 11:52 PM

I'm most surprised that ZTA hasn't had one yet. I feel like if it's not in the next round there could be backlash. I'm not even in ZTA nor do I have any connection with them (other than being in an NPC group) but I think it's their turn to get a print just because of their size and national visibility, especially because of their huge contributions to the Komen organization. They also seem to always vote and comment so much when Lilly posts sorority stuff on facebook that there's obviously a huge market waiting for it.

I doubt SDT will get one for a while, especially since the areas of prominence and the area of Lilly's popularity don't overlap too much, but I just hope if Lilly ever gets around to us, they use Cafe au Lait and Old Blue, not the primary blue and primary yellow so many companies use for our stuff. I don't even get why they use yellow, brown is closer to cafe au lait anyway.

aesovs 11-03-2012 01:04 AM

Just based on which prints made it to the final round of voting, I'd definitely agree with adipose, but I'd also add Tri Sigma, because for the past two years Lilly has made five prints. I think that out of all of the sororities left, Tri Sig probably has the largest presence in places that Lilly is popular.

I've been gunning for a Gamma Phi print, but if we don't get one this year, I guess I'll just wait it out. I remember reading that Lilly intends to finish out the print series for all NPC groups, however long that takes.

See, maybe it's me but, I actually really like the Kappa Alpha Theta print. I like it more (dare I say) than the Phi Mu print because it has more than just one or two colors. Don't get me wrong, I love the Phi Mu print but, there are other prints I actually like better.

The Phi Mu Lilly Print would make a great baby blanket for a legacy...those pink lions are cute!

shirley1929 11-03-2012 04:30 PM

I've wondered if the reason why ZTA hasn't happened yet is because they're trying to co-brand with a pink ribbon and want/need Komen's blessing?

I'm not sure...I haven't seen a print yet that's alluded to philanthropy. Co-branding would be cool, but it also would make me wonder why they wouldn't try it for the other prints. Maybe since the pink ribbon could be considered to go along with Zeta's symbols?

I would be interested to see how the public vote plays into which sororities they pick, because I feel like Zeta's always had a really strong vote.

AGDee 11-03-2012 04:54 PM

I'll put a disclaimer here.. these views are not the views of AGD or my sisters...plenty of them love Lilly and were voting like crazy.

That said, I am clearly a northerner because I don't "get" Lilly. I can't imagine wearing those kinds of prints or buying anything in those prints. They aren't my style at all. I suspect ZTA hasn't gotten a print yet because the whole thing is a ploy to get sororities to market for Lilly for free and if they keep a "big" sorority hold out, they can milk that for all its worth.

Then again, I'm kind of anti-designer of any type and I don't wear t-shirts, etc. that market for a company (like Old Navy shirts that say Old Navy prominently, shirts with a Nike swoosh, etc.) If I paid for the product, I'm not going to advertise for them too. They should be paying me to wear stuff like that.

For the most part, I agree. I have never bought anything from Lilly. The thing I like about the sorority prints, though, is that I like the idea of wearing something that isn't obviously my letters, but would be recognized by another Greek. This goes along with being a Northerner; I don't want to shout my affiliation from the rooftops in a professional setting, but it's cool to connect with other Greeks.

For example, I see a lot of AKA stuff that is green and pink and says 1908. Obvious to anyone in the D9, but not necessarily to a non-Greek (or even to an NPCer). I'd love to see more stuff like that in the Phi Mu collection.

That said, the only item I can imagine wanting in the Phi Mu print is the Murphee, and I'll be damned if I am gonna pay $80 for a scarf.

trisigma212 11-04-2012 11:13 AM

I think Tri Sigma will probably be in the next class. People say its a size thing, but remember, they were in the voting to the final round in the last class. Plus the colors and symbols easily align with Lilly- Purple and White and sailboats and violets. One of the easier prints to come up with, I think. I do think its ridiculous that they make it out as if voting makes a difference though, since they had the final say and ZTA was on top in terms of voting presence. I know that pissed a whole lot of people off.

Personally, I own a few Lilly things- some dresses and a planner. I went to college in the south, but other than a few girls here and there, Lilly wasn't really seen on campus. Most of us derived our wardrobes from White House Black Market, Ann Taylor, etc. More classic in terms of style- no crazy prints. I think the sorority prints in general are garish and not my style, but since they come in accessories, I'm more likely to wear one or two bright prints and pair it with my mostly black wardrobe.

I feel sorry for any group that has to go last. No point in voting anymore, right? No hoopla surrounding it. Sure you're excited, but every other group that already has one, they don't care anymore. They've got what they want. I think this voting crap was a horrible idea from the beginning.

BabyPiNK_FL 11-04-2012 11:58 AM

I bought the tumbler-everything else is out of my price range or will just get dirty like crazy.

AOII Angel 11-04-2012 06:17 PM

I wouldn't pay $5 for anything with the Pepto Panda on it. I know AOIIs are glad to have the print, but it's terrible. I'm surprised any of the other groups bother with this any more. Every time the prints come out, they are disappointing.

Hahaha, this made me laugh. Thanks.

IndianaSigKap 11-04-2012 06:51 PM

^^Me too! Pepto panda made me giggle. Vineyard Vines has a sorority line, but the prints are mainly letters and small symbols. Not sure I'd like a SK print in their line.

VV is designing a Theta Phi Alpha line and I'm hoping it will hold me over until we finally get our turn with Lilly, so I have high hopes for getting a classic and understated print (not covered with penguins!) But a couple of the current designs do make me a little nervous.

Btw, I would adore a panhellenic print if Lilly would make one!

IndianaSigKap 11-04-2012 08:42 PM

^^ Beware! Instead of pepto pandas you could end up with periwinkle penguins! :-)

Lol, that's EXACTLY what I'm afraid of. If only these companies would let us vote on the actual designs of the prints :)

ShadeTree 11-06-2012 02:14 PM

I would much prefer crowns, strawberries and a nod to Themis than pink ribbons for the ZTA print. Our founders knew nothing of pink ribbons. Yep, I'm old school.

And, it's not like there aren't a gazillion pink ribbon prints out there already.

FSUZeta 11-06-2012 02:35 PM

The majority of the Lilly sorority prints have not done justice to the sorority symbols they are representing, imho.

I think Kappa Delta is my favorite. The Phi Mu one isn't great, but it's about the best I could expect, given our colors/symbols.

lunalovegood 11-14-2012 03:02 PM

I think my favorites are between Pi Phi and Delta Gamma.

I'm also a little afraid of what Lilly may do to AGD... I think this has the potential to be not so attractive. :(

shadokat 11-14-2012 03:31 PM

This is hysterical!!

That being said, I agree with the others who say they aren't Lilly fans. I think it's an acquired taste, and not one I'm ever going to acquire! Just like I don't get the buzz over Vera Bradley bags...they look like my grandmother's knitting bag...BLECH! :)

I must be in the minority, I like my organization's print. I was expecting a lavender and maroon monstrosity with scary doves right out of Hitchcock's The Birds. I was pleasantly surprised.

SigKapSweetie 11-14-2012 09:41 PM

IndianaSigKap - I love our print too! I have the tote and the scarf with me on a business trip. I like that they are something I might pick out and carry just because they're pretty, and they also happen to have our letters on them.

I really like our print too. I'd like the scarf, but I can't much justify $80 on a scarf. I considered getting the tote for work this school year, but can't really get myself on board with the pepto pink handles and piping. If they'd make one with a more neutral handle and trim, I'd be in!

I like yours the most of the most recent print class.

ComradesTrue 11-14-2012 10:09 PM

I love my (Theta) print too. It hasn't been well received on these boards, but I am pleased with the way it turned out.

Some, *cough AzTheta* cough, don't like that they added light blue to our black and gold, but I truly believe that they were creating a beautiful sky background for our soaring kites. In addition, the pansies appear almost cloud-like, resulting in an overall effect that blends all of our symbols and colors into one theme for the print. For me, the effect works well. I also appreciate that our letters are in the print, but in a very subtle manner.

I have the tote bag and the scarf, and get compliments often.

I do understand the frustration of some groups, as there are sorority prints that I think they did well, and others that could have been tweaked a bit.

But the tote has gold sequins on on the handles...lol. Like that makes it better. :D I am a scarf girl, I have tons of them and wear them at least two or three times a week once the weather gets cool. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten one. I wish there were a few more product options like an iPad cover, a zip up bag a little larger than the make up bag, etc.
