The Amazing Race - Season 21

And the teams are announced! Check here or here.

No returning teams, but racers will include the Fabulous Beekman Boys, a former Megadeth rocker a double amputee, married Monster Truck racers and two Chippendale dancers. The new twist: If the team that wins the first leg also wins the last leg, they'll double their winnings to $2 million.

Premiere is Sept. 30.

Ooooh. I like the twist!

Huge race fan! I can't wait for this season!

Tulip86 08-31-2012 07:17 PM

YES! Love this show!

AGDee 09-30-2012 09:36 PM

Ok, who watched?? Any early favorites?

Greek Alert

Brittany Fletcher on this season's Amazing Race is an Alumna of the Alpha Mu chapter of Phi Mu from Auburn University. Though I normally don't watch this show, I may have to in order to cheer on a sister!

My son is rooting for the substitute teachers, but other than that we all agreed that while there were teams who are getting on our nerves already, there really weren't any teams we felt like rooting for. Kind of disappointing, though maybe a few of the teams will grow on me.

I would root for Amy (the double amputee) and Daniel, but why in the world did they tell Ryan and Abbie where the abacus woman was? Stupid, stupid, stupid. That cost them a shot at $2 million. I don't feel like rooting for stupid.

SoCalGirl 10-01-2012 10:46 AM

I'm glad they blew first place because it would have been a big let down when they get eliminated.

I know prosthetics are super super expensive but why would you go on this show without ones that allow you to run? It was bugging me so much that Daniel was carrying Amy's pack while she barely jogged. If she's dragging that much in the first leg when there was not that far to run, their team is not going to last too long.

I had that same thought.

Lexi and Trey are University of Texas graduates. Lexi is my husband's cousin's daughter. She is a Tri Delta and was on the UT Pom Squad. Pom is the group of dancers that wear chaps and dance/cheer on the sidelines at football games. Trey was on the football team at UT. They are such a cute couple! Go Team Texas!

I like the rockers and think the twins seem fun (and a bit whiny). The chippendales got on my nerves FAST.

PeppyGPhiB 10-03-2012 03:02 PM

I went to high school with Abbie, so I guess I'll root for her. And I like the rockers too.

AmoXO 10-04-2012 12:45 PM

The only thing I know about the teams is about the goat farmers ... they're "The Fabulous Beekman Boys"

http://beekman1802.com/

The rockers grew on me during the episode, but I'm reserving judgment.

Funny, I was the exact opposite. The twins were driving me CRAZY by the end of the episode, but the chippendales kind of grew on me.

Overall, I was kind of ehhh; I thought it was a really boring first episode, and I didn't really find any one team that I was super excited about. The UT kiddos and the rockers are probably my favorites so far, but I'm not super excited about anyone yet.

SydneyK 11-05-2012 01:53 PM

I'm pulling for the rockers - I couldn't not pull for them after seeing the way they handled having their money stolen. They're a class act.

Up until last night's episode, Trey and Lexi were my second favorite. They seemed like genuinely nice people. I wish they hadn't split the money the twins stole, though. Oh, and speaking of the twins - those girls need to go. Their personalities are just as abrasive as their voices, if not more so.

DaffyKD 11-05-2012 03:52 PM

The twins made the comment that they wanted their children to see how they are strong competitors, yet their children are able to see they they are thieves. Amazing. Really wanted them to go last night.

Wait - is one (or both) of them actually a mom, or are they talking about future kids? Neither of them seems mature enough to be an effective parent*.

I'm with you, Daffy. I wanted to seem them go home last night, too.

*ETA: Based on what I've seen of them. I recognize that people aren't necessarily themselves when participating in shows like this.

Tulip86 11-05-2012 05:36 PM

Yeah, I'm over the twins. Still love the rockers.

AGDee 11-05-2012 07:26 PM

Love the rockers and love how they handled that setback! I liked the Monster Truckers too but didn't figure they had a chance at winning. I just think they seem like really cool, down to earth people.

I also love how the rockers didn't let on that their money was stolen to anybody. The twins don't know for sure whose money it was from their comments. I tend to believe in karma, so I think they'll get theirs. I was surprised Phil didn't say anything. Is it possible he didn't know until afterward? Wouldn't he have been briefed? Or could nobody do that because they were with the players the whole time? I wonder how all that works.

After watching last night's episode and seeing how Phil explained to the rockers that they needed to produce their passports before he could check them in, I suspect he gets briefed regularly. I guess he just chose not to comment on the Twins' thievery for whatever reason.

Not happy about the whole To Be Continued thing. I'm too impatient for that kind of business.

I hope the rockers can find their stuff, but I doubt it'll happen. I don't remember seeing anyone ever make such a costly mistake on the show. Surely they knew better than to just leave all their stuff in the cab!! What in the world were they thinking?

Shellfish 11-12-2012 10:08 AM

It was the fourth time that I can think of: Toni and Dallas in Russia, Zev and Justin in Cambodia, and two showgirls on the first leg a couple of seasons ago. They lucked out in that someone found it and was able to track them down at the LA airport via Twitter.

He does get briefed constantly. That's how he knows things like whether teams used a mode of transportation they shouldn't have, failed to do part of a task, etc. And he may have commented on the money to the twins, but that might not have made the edit.

Did Trey and Lexi actually split the money with the twins? I know they knew the twins took it, but whether they split it wasn't clear to me.

I did wonder last night if Trey is Greek when he called the Cyrillic letter El or Pe (couldn't tell for sure which it was) Pi.

AGDee 11-18-2012 11:44 PM

I loved the guy in the school house. "Pencillllllls DOWN" "You Win!!!!!!!!!" LOL

He was very entertaining.

I don't want to spoil for people who haven't seen it yet, but I am sad for the team that got eliminated tonight :(

I was a little late to the Amazing Race game (I missed the first few seasons altogether, and then once I started watching, I missed episodes pretty frequently.) Thanks for filling me in.

I think the producers left it a little vague on purpose. The twins said that they would split the money (thereby, according to their logic, splitting the guilt for stealing it). And at one point, Lexi said to Trey, 'They're going to split the money with us.' But, I don't recall seeing Trey & Lexi receiving/accepting any money. I'm also curious as to how that played out.

I was sad too, but they made not one but TWO boneheaded moves pretty late in the game. It was justified.

I'm all in for TEAM LONGHORNS!!!

Same here.

I don't know all the details, but Lexi told me that "things are not always as they seem". They reported the money they found to the producers and were told to keep it. There is a lot of editing on any show like this. I believe Lexi and I fully support her and Trey. Go Team Texas!!

I am loathing the twins.

Loathing.
Unadulterated loathing.

I am always really sad when people lose a leg because of something like a mechanical failure.

I could have sworn I responded to this last night, but ditto.

And I loathe racers whining about being U-turned or acting like it's somehow unfair that they got U-turned. Yes, Ryan, I'm talking about you and your "The Chippendales cost us $2M" sob story.

This. Is. A. Competition.

The U-turn is part of the game, and the Chippendales played the game well, as did Trey and Lexie. It's nothing personal. (Well, sometimes it is, but not in this case.) Put on your big boy britches and stop whining.

At this point, I'm pulling for the Chippendales to win. (Now there's a sentence that when the season started I wouldn't have guessed I'd be typing.) If not them, then Trey and Lexie.

EXACTAFREAKINGMENTLY!!! He's annoyed me all season. Remember when he was whining when they didn't win a leg & that meant that they wouldn't break the record of the most #1 finishes in the race??? Ugh!

I'm pulling for Trey & Lexie first and then the Chips...

Yep. I liked Abbie, but Ryan got on my nerves too. What a great attitude -- I'm really competative, but I can't take it when anyone else is.

Tulip86 11-26-2012 06:31 PM

There's a huge difference between competitiveness and just being a a-shole.

Chppendales DID NOT cost Ryan $2 million. Ryan and Abby cost themselves $2million. They were the ones who went through Frankfurt, they are the ones who have been at the bottom of the pack for 2 weeks, he is the one who was moping while trying to win people over to give them Euros. The Chippendales did not call the airlines and tell the to delay the flight due to mechanical problems. Ryan is a sore loser.

Argh. Thanks to my (bio) sister, I have to miss the finale Sunday night, but at least I'll catch up with the recording on Monday. So I'm just going to say this now: Go, Chippendales!
