Thing I have Won

So on Friday I won a trip to Las Vegas to the I Heart Radio Music Festival. I don't win thing very often so I'm an extremely excited.

What have you won before? Any prize big or small.

***I know the title is grammatical incorrect. It should say 'Things I Have Won'. I didn't notice it until after I posted it an now I can't change it.

The hearts of millions.

I've won several free lunches from local restaurants (quite a few seem to do the business card fishbowl draws), a cruise, and an iPod Shuffle.

christiangirl 08-21-2012 04:27 PM

I won All That: The Album from a mail-in sweepstakes when I was a kid. That's about it.

SWTXBelle 08-21-2012 04:31 PM

On "Jeopardy" - (leading until Final Jeopardy - studied instead of drinking in college and thus was the only one not to get the final question) - Case of Rice A Roni - ALL THE SAME FLAVOR; stereo, Centrum, cold medicine and the home game, which no one would play with me because, hey "You were on the show".

On "Win Ben Stein's Money" - I didn't; I did get a "You are the prettiest contestant we've ever had" from Ben Stein which I treasure to this day.

Yea, I was gonna say. If I can't use WAL all willy nilly, no one can.

adpiucf 08-21-2012 05:04 PM

Tickets to Live in the Vineyard in Napa. It was awesome!

And in third grade, I won a globe beach ball for being the class spelling bee champion. I miss that beach ball. It had the Soviet Union on it.

princessamy 08-21-2012 05:29 PM

I won tickets to see the Backstreet Boys on their comeback tour. That completed my childhood right there

Of course!

I've won a lot of stuff over the years. Off the top of my head, stuff off of the radio--concert tickets, fun stuff. A few $5 lottery tickets, and of course, Mr. Ninjapoodle;)

TPA85 08-21-2012 06:22 PM

I just won tickets to an Akron Aeros game for this weekend :-)

lovespink88 08-21-2012 07:20 PM

In ad agency land, there is something magical called upfront season where all the TV networks put on presentations to sell you on why they are awesome and why you need to throw your clients' media dollars at them. Among other things, they also give out lots of presents. Some of them are smaller gifts that everyone gets (although some of my "small" gifts have been Samsonite luggage and a Sony stereo), some of them are contests. The contests are great because the pool of applicants is so small (usually the contests are advertised via emails that only get sent to agencies and advertisers and on top of that, majority of people don't play). I've only won like $25 gift cards in the contests, but I've had co-workers win iPads, Beats headphones...etc. My old account director won a 60'' 3D TV last year. Needless to say, I play every single contest that I get via email, lol

IrishLake 08-21-2012 07:55 PM

I won $20 on a scratch off lotto ticket once. I walked away from a Roulette table up about $600.

Not sure if I've posted this before, here goes...

This is from the 'old' days: I "won" the Junior High School School Science Fair.

Judging was blind--no names on entries and no contestant by their entry as it is judged.

Each entry included a hand-written ledger stating what we did, how we did it, and what it meant to the scientific community. My ledger used PRINTED letters (not cursive), which in retrospect is used by teen males more often than teen females and may explain what happened next...

AFTER all contestants AND THEIR PARENTS had re-entered the display room AND seen the winner's plaque and certificate by my entry, the judges suddenly realized they had declared A GIRL their Science Contest Winner . I was the FIRST GIRL :D to win the school's Science Contest.

But the judges were having none of that! (remember this was the olden days)

They huddled together and decided the winning entry was really a display by two BOYS (who ironically won the Science Fair, with a different display, the previous year).

In the uproar that followed it was decided I should still get a prize, so at the school's award ceremony later in the year I was given a ten dollar bookstore certificate while the two boys each got a twenty-five dollar bookstore certificate.

Only their names went on the plaque as the winners :(.

My science teacher was upset, but it was his first year of teaching and he had no tenure and thus no say-so in re-instating me as THE winner. But I still have a fun story to tell :).

That is total bullshit. LAME!!!

Let's see...I won like 20 bucks in scratchers in my entire lifetime - none of which I purchased...so yay?

Beyond that...nothing I can think of. Hmm...

My husband won tickets on the radio to see Peter Murphy in concert. It was just kind of meh, but we had fun laughing at people who danced like Pee Wee Herman, so it was worth it.

I just remembered, I won $15 on a scratcher a few weeks ago. I've also won a couple drawings at work (one for $50 and one for beer glasses...I don't drink beer but they're nice for soda).

If we're talking about "more than luck" contests, then I've won 1st place in a national writing competition a few years ago ($75 and an offer to be published which I declined).

WhiteRose1912 08-22-2012 04:59 AM

I've won lots of small lotto money prizes; I like scratchoffs. I won $50 during the most recent big lottery jackpot.

I won $1000 from Fuse, the music channel, when I was a freshman. That money all went to groceries and a sweet tattoo for my then-boyfriend. I should've gotten my own sweet tattoo!

Dixie_Amazon 08-22-2012 06:42 AM

Won a Dyson last year!

Cheerio's story reminded me - I won the Sallie Beretta Outstanding Senior Woman award for my undergraduate class.

I won a silver tray.

The Outstanding Senior Man got $1,000.

When there was a glitch getting gypsyboots her financial aid package for the summer I called the alumni office and offered to bring them my tray if they would give her $1,000.

They did come up with $700.

I am now only 7/10ths as upset as I was.

ChioLu 08-22-2012 08:26 AM

I've won 9 trips (so far):
Hawaii (USA Today)
Bahamas cruise on Royal Caribbean (beer company)
airplane tickets -- twice (radio station & forget who sponsored the other)
Paris -- 2 trips -- 1 w/tix to EuroDisney (MasterCard), 1 w/tix to the French Open (USA Network)
Trip to Los Angeles (radio station/Universal Studios)
Jamaica w/a week at an all-inclusive resort (Nestle) & my mom won the same prize (they gave away 90 trips)
Sundance Film Festival (Chase bank)

$1000 cash (twice) - Kraft foods; an Atlanta TV station

Was on a game show -- "Top Card" on The Nashville Network (TNN) where I was champion for a day and won spectacular prizes like: a chainsaw, a leaf blower, a sewing machine, a set of his & hers bowling balls w/matching satin jackets (plzzzz don't be jealous!)

Lots of smaller prizes (too many to name)

Waiting to hear those magical words of ... "you've won a new car!"

etadrisophila 08-22-2012 08:31 AM

Forest Gump VCR
2 Best Buy $25 gift certificates

ChioLu 08-22-2012 09:07 AM

There are sweepstakes newsletters that you can subscribe to -- like a magazine subscription. I won most of the trips BEFORE all the sweepstakes are published on the internet, but just won the trip to Sundance in January. Just google "sweepstakes" and you'll find a ton. But, you have to pay taxes on prizes (about 1/3 the ARV) so it's never really "free".

DeltaBetaBaby 08-22-2012 09:46 AM

Once upon a time, there was a website called GreekCentral.com that sold lettered merchandise and stuff. Anyway, they had a $5000 sweepstakes, and I won it, and they came to my sorority house with a giant check and a camera crew.

In the pictures, it turns out that the fancy lighting made my sweater entirely see-though.

dreamseeker 08-22-2012 09:54 AM

I won tickets to see Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and some other folks. My boyfriend was coming from a different state and the idiot bus driver some how made a 3 hour trip a 6 hour trip. so we missed Lupe and it was also raining. The seats were for the standing section and far so we could only see it on the big tvs. Good thing we had an umbrella.

Tulip86 08-22-2012 11:18 AM

Won:
A tipi at IKEA when I was a kid, I won a writing contest for 10-13 year olds

A Le Creuset pan (promotion for Irish beef)

A 100 dollar coupon for designer swimwear with Elle magazine

An iPod speaker set with Glamour magazine

Tickets to a football game

Go Alpha Gam 08-22-2012 11:25 AM

I won it all on The Price Is Right - furniture, piano, car, $1,000 on the wheel! I tried about 9 times to get picked and finally did!

A few years later my daughter and I won a cruise while playing Bingo on a cruise we were on.
Bottom line (and my motto) - you have to play to win. I win tons of prizes on radio contests, but I am always calling in when they announce it!

honeychile 08-22-2012 01:36 PM

I'm an extremely lucky person on goofy things, and less so on the big ones. Also, once you figure out radio contests, it becomes much easier to win prizes there. Here's my list, although I know that I'm leaving out things:

-the complete American-released Beatles catalogue
-20 other artists' albums (yes, pre-cd) for my sorority
-$500 for a logo contest
-countless door prizes
-small kitchen appliances (mixer, toaster, coffee maker, etc)
-dinner for two at 4 different restaurants
-Rolling Stones tickets (I think this was the Metimucial Tour)
-Rod Stewart tickets (with back stage passes)
-Ringo Starr tickets
-Paul McCartney tickets
-Steeler tickets!!!!!
-Soccer tickets!!
-King-sized quilt
-television
-several smaller lotteries, never more than $500 - YET!!

And again, I know there's more. Sometimes it's embarrassing!

AGDee 08-22-2012 09:16 PM

I win basket raffles at the kids' organization fund raising events all the time. It has become a joke with a friend of mine because I win those things so often. I won some tickets to a local holiday event and a restaurant gift card from a radio station that was broadcasting live at the mall on Black Friday a couple years ago.

I never win money. Never ever win money.

Pirouette 08-22-2012 09:39 PM

As a kid, I correctly guessed the weight of a giant pumpkin. The prize? The giant pumpkin.
I don't remember how much it weighed, but it weighed more than I did.
I also remember that my parents weren't too happy when the learned that they were responsible for transporting it from the farm to our front porch...

PM_Mama00 08-22-2012 10:30 PM

I never win anything, but last football season I won the pool for a Lions' game ($5 buy in per week, so it was $125. Didn't really win much cuz it all evened out). Tonight I won a pretty pricey necklace at a Lia Sophia party. Now I'm stuck having one.

CutiePie2000 08-25-2012 01:59 AM

How did I miss this thread?

I have won:
-1 airfare for 1 person to Narita, Japan on JAL airlines (no hotel, so I sold it to a colleague for $300.00 cash)
-1 trip for 2 to Los Cabos, Mexico (I was Caller 94 on the radio - that was SWEET!)
-A pair of gold earrings
-3 or 4 wine baskets at different wine tastings (with raffle) that I attend
-a big mother gift basket of Easter chocolates and candy, which had a $200.00 gift card to a wine store
-a gift basket of motivational books + DVDs
- free entry to a conference that I wanted to attend ($1600.00 value)
- Visa Gift card worth $50.00
- Fleece jacket from Chupa Chups
-Free hotel stay at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada
-Free hotel stay at the Westin Hotel in Whistler, Canada
-Free hotel stay at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, Canada
-This sort of glass and metal summer patio lantern that is quite lovely
-Smaller items like books, pens, traveler coffee mugs, gravy boat, potpourri type items, etc.

Numerous other things that I cannot think of at the moment...raffle items and what not.

I am hoping to win a house, a car and other big ticket items in the future!

I believe in The Law of Attraction, cuz it works, baby!!

KillarneyRose 08-29-2012 02:21 PM

In the early eighties, the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team had something called the "Stick Boy/Stick Girl Promotion". Any kid between, I believe, the ages of five and ten could write an essay about how much they loved the Penguins and the winner would receive two tickets to a game, a photo with his or her favorite player and a hockey stick signed by the whole team.

As an avid hockey fan, I WANTED that prize! Unfortunately, I was 15 or 16 at the time so I was too old to enter the contest. That was okay, though. I wrote a kick ass essay and put my nine year old sister's name on it and hoped for the best.

A few weeks later, we got a call that "my sister" had won the contest! And I got to go with her to the game :)

TPARose 08-29-2012 07:42 PM

I won $60 in a pool during the Super Bowl while I was in grad school.. Unfortunately, I donated it to replenish the beer at the party.

Yeah.... I have NO luck, but I think what was said earlier about "You have to pay to win" is also try.. and sometimes even just playing to win helps.

Even still, every time the lottery gets over $300M, Ill buy a ticket and convince myself that I'm going to win. Being delusional is free!
