All locals?
.
I'm not certain, but I think Sewanee (the University of the South) only has local sororities and fraternities. At least I've never heard of any national GLO's on their campus.
You thats an interesting question, before I became a member on the this message board I had mever heard of a campus with just local organizations as their overall greek system. But from being on here, I have learned that to be very untrue. Although my particular school isn't like that , I have heard that other schools have a vast population of locals and multi chapter orgs. which I think is very unique and just more greek love :D

brookline,
Sewanee has all local sororities but national fraternities (except the Phi Delts who went local). All-local schools (fraternities and sororities) I've seen on the net are Hope College, College of Wooster, Heidelberg College, Trinity University and Cornell College in Iowa. As you can tell I find this subject fascinating! |
Yes i can relate
at the school where i did my undergraduate work at call Olivet College in Mich all of the Greeks on campus are Local, NOoo national at all...
Hey! There are only two locals at my University and they are both sororities.
The U. of Hawaii has mostly locals. The college where I teach has only locals.
my school has just three national greek orgs...D Phi E and Phi Sig Sig for sororities and TKE for fraternities. meanwhile we have 4local sororites and 4 local fraternities...so it's mainly a local run school, but no one at all makes any sort of differentiation between the locals and nationals, it's all just one system. in fact the independents at our school would never know the difference between the groups, they're all very similarly run. by the way, i'm a member of one of the locals :)
At my school we have all national fraternities. Sorories we have 3 national and 1 local (thats about to change). The local one (my sorority) is about to go national. I'm sooooooo excited about affiliation.
My school is made up entirely of locals- we have 5 sororities and 4 fraternities
John Carroll U in Cleveland was all local until this fall, when the U made them all join national orgs.
Emory and Henry College in Virginia is only comprised of local Greek organizations.
Well we are one
I attend Olivet College which is located in the middle part of michigan, and our greek systems consists of all locals. African American ones., and White one also. So there is no natinoal frat or soror on our campus at all yet i may add..lol

The main sororities and fraternities that the majority of students on campus join are local. There are some service, professional, and NPHC sororities and fraternities that are national, tho

Austin College in Sherman, Texas requires all chapters to be local. My best friend in law school and a darned fine attorney was a member of Gamma Gamma Gamma. Austin College is a church related liberal arts scchool fairly selective in admissions.
Texas Wesleyan has one local fraternity "Sons of Sakkara" founded in 1933 was a Sig Ep chapter 1973-1995. |
Hope College in Holland, Michigan has all local organizations.
University of Redlands in CA has only locals, except for academic nationals. Our trustees disallow "social" national orgs on our campus. (several groups of students have attempted to charter nationals here and got rejected).
I feel having only locals really boosts the morale of local members. That way no one has an innate superiority complex. |
Lee University in Tenessee
is made up of all locals. they are extremely well established, well run groups that are pretty old. There are also two colleges in Georgia: Shorter and crap i forget the other-that are all local or were until like this year. Don't know if they have nationals, but I do that as of very recently is was all local. (my sister was investigating private schools in the south)
A friend of my other sisters started the Xi Delta local at UGA. They have an awesome sisterhood with tons of alumna supprt but none of the expense of the Nationals. So, a great alternative to those who think sorority life is not in their reach at UGA. UGA also has Gamma Sigma Sigma-which is service, but those girls are soooooooo sweet and do tons of social stuff like mixers and datenights and formals and stuff. it's really just like any other social with a bigger emphasis on service. My sis brought home a bunch of girls from school and they are in it. They are so nice. Not local, but not NPC. |
Actually, there are at least 5 colleges in Georgia that have only locals.
All our sororities are local (which is cause we are the only one) but the fraternities are national.
