greek cheers and jeers

Just noticed a couple of things today in my university's greek world ...

:D cheers to Phi Sigma Kappa who colonized here this past weekend. The original chapter had a lot of history at my school but was closed down four years ago. The group of guys bringing that chapter back to life has done an awesome job. One of their members is a columnist for the school newspaper and wrote a nice column in today's edition. (Its the Tuesday edition at www.dailyegyptian.com under Outlaw Nation columnist Joe Johnson)

 jeers to a sorority alumni (only a 1st year law student) who was at a bar tonight drinking in letters. Everytime I see something like this, I just wonder how could you "forget" you have letters on when you go to a bar? Just a pet peeve, because I value my letters so much.

:D cheers to a group of Delta Sigs who I saw out tonite. Two are graduating and I have known them since my freshman year - Fall 1997. And my "little bro" was there. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.

ZTAMich 12-12-2001 02:53 AM

 jeers to the fraternity boys who were mean to my little at their formal!! she came home early and it was so sad to see her at my door crying in a pretty formal dress and slippers!!!

:) cheers to the fabulous newly elected officers all around (esp the new pres of Zeta...oh yeah that's me! gotta pat yourself on the back every now and then hehe)

AOPiLaLa 12-12-2001 09:38 AM

Cheers to the Georgia State Chapter of AOTT for initiating 17 new members as of tommorow! It is the largest pledge class so far an I am sure there are more to come : )

Cheers to the lovely Elon AOTT's and AXiD's of this weekend, who showed another fine example of greek sisterhood : )

Cheers to all of you for being such an outstanding example of why I went greek and for promoting greek unity everywhere : )

Optimist Prime 12-12-2001 10:33 AM

:) Cheers to the sorority girls who can wake up so early in the morning, throw on a set of letters, and still look cute as hell.

 Jeers to the few indivisdauls who oppose the formation of new chapters on campus, and who only serve the interests of their org and not the greek system. Our way of life is being threatend, in more ways than one, and people only car about what is good for themselves in the short term and not good for everyone (themselves included) in the long run. Just like when this country (USA) got started, the states only cared about what was good for themselves, and it took such effort to get them to work together. And even untill recent tragic events, the US was very sectionalised into regions and there was still-at least around where i live and grew up-a feeling of rivalry between states. Its a shame that it had to take somehting so tragic and extreme as what happened three months ago to bring us together, and I hope and pray that something that bad isn't whats needed to bring the greek system together.

 jeers to me for getting distracted and getting up a soapbox.

:) cheers to me for saying what had to be said. (and then some)

:) cheers to the Longwood chapters of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Sigma Nu for being such good hosts this summer. ;) Pm me for details on that one.

SSS1365 12-12-2001 02:22 PM

Ummm... yay Sigma Nu and Sigma Phi Epsilon?
(I don't really know any SPE's but the Sigma Nus are okay)

Anyway, so...

:) While, on that subject, cheers to Sigma Nu for getting recognition from the college and doing a super job with community service projects.

 Jeers to some fraternity guys who broke into our chapter room, stole our food, and broke a full beer bottle in our hall.

:) Cheers to their president for sincerely apologizing after he heard about it.

 Jeers to some other fraternity guy puking all over our dorm's halls and stairwells. This happened one night at like 10. Come on, if you're that wasted at 10, you've got problems!

BrownEyedGirl 12-12-2001 02:42 PM

:) Cheers to the sororities who put Christmas cards and treats in our elevator room on ours hall to wish ZTA happy holidays!!

:( Jeers to the television shows that perpetuate Greek stereotypes!

:) Cheers to our T-Shirt sister who got all of our cute shirts in before we left for exams!!!

Cheers to my GreekChat Delta Zeta ladies; I'm truly thrilled to call you my sisters!

Yay, Us!!! :D

My father was a college man, a Beta Theta Pi
My brother is in college now, a happy Sigma Chi
My uncle was a howling sport, he joined the Sigma Nu
And so when I to college went, they told me what to do

My father said, "Now daughter dear I'll give you good advice
Your mother was a DZ girl, a gem of matchless price
So if the DZs bid you, don't refuse the honor high,
Be wise just like your mother was, and pass the others by

ZTAngel 12-12-2001 08:00 PM

:) cheers to members of all GLOs that truly perpetuate true feelings of sisterhood and brotherhood. the world would be a better place if everyone could feel such love.

 jeers to the few members of GLOs that don't give their organization the respect and honor it deserves (and therefore putting other members in difficult situations) through their discourteous actions

:) super cheers to GLO members who try to deal with these issues in a fair and sisterly (brotherly) manner

:D Cheers to all the fabulous women who I am so happy to call sisters through Kappa Alpha Theta!

:D Cheers to the new Theta alum from the Univ. of Texas- Austin who stopped to help me on the highway when my car had a flat tire! She had to get going for Thanksgiving dinner but was such a sweetheart and stopped and helped me, for like, an hour. It really is awesome to have a Kappa Alpha Theta license plate :).

:D Cheers to all the Thetas that I've met on the road through my Theta license plate! Some of them I've even had lunch/dinner with.

:D Cheers to all the GC women who are Kappa Alpha Thetas!

:( Jeers to those who think that Thetas are nothing but rich, snobby blondes. Jeers also to those that stereotype Greek life in general.

:( Jeers to the sorority at my school that badmouths us anytime they have a chance. Their green-eyed monster is not so subtle, you know...

:) Cheers for it being against the Vikings!!!

Akronn 12-19-2001 01:55 AM

:) Cheers to all my Brothers for a fun filled couple of years and giving an old guy a second chance when he should've pledged a loooong time ago! I was a bit down and out in '99 and I probably wouldn't have made it through without my fellow Delt Sigs (big bro especially!)

SuperSister 12-19-2001 12:57 PM

Being as that I am in a astoundingly good mood today:

:D Cheers to all, but especially the wonderful people on GC. For the most part the threads are entertaining and informative and I have noticed that people are always willing to help out with wonderful advice :)

GG93 12-20-2001 06:22 PM

 Jeers to the powers that be at Clarion University who have outlawed mixers. How sad a disappointing that they are trying to crush the greek system by forbidding socializing between the groups. Apparently, they believe that mixers = drinking and by discontinuing all mixers the underage drinking problem will be miraculously solved. Sad. (If I have been misinformed and this is not the situation or the rationale for it, by all means fill me in. I ma interested to hear what is going on).

:) Cheers to this great site that I just found out about through a sis. Cheers to her too for pointing me in this direction!

Dont worry babydoll. They thought the same thing when they enacted drinking age laws, and when they enacted risk mgmt rules. Nothin changed, we still having a good time.

GmuTeke 12-22-2001 01:50 PM

:D Cheers to all the new Tekes that have popped up on this board in recent months

 Jeers to one person in particular who passed himself off as a Teke and wrote inflammatory hazing remarks

:D Cheers to all the GC'ers, esp SigmaChiCard, who saw through the hate and the pettiness of the previous poster, and realized that we Tekes are more than hazing maniacs

The1calledTKE 07-20-2002 02:03 PM

Time to bump this thread to the front again.

DeltaSigStan 07-20-2002 03:49 PM

 Cheers to Delta Sig for throwing an AWESOME party Tuesday night! For a Tuesday night during the SUMMER (when 97% of students leave town to go home), the party was blazin.

 Cheers to getting in touch with my old high school friend Jenny and finding out she's in Gamma Phi Beta:)

 Jeers to members of my house who are "content" and "comfortable" with the state of my chapter now, when we're the smallest house and could be (AND WILL BE NEXT FALL) a LOT better.

 Cheers all the houses on the new fraternity row. Next year will be big for every house.

 Jeers to a certain Latin fraternity puting up a gate after moving in, thus blocking the walkway next to Theta that we used when one of my brothers lived across the street. You're USFC, don't try and go above IFC. Be lucky you have a chapter house when you don't deserve one.

 Cheers to all the Alpha Phis, AChiOs, Thetas, Pi Phis and Sigma Kappas that came to our 4:20 party, a night NOT soon to be forgotten.

 Cheers to our Alumni. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you.

hannahgirl 07-20-2002 04:52 PM

:) Cheers to all the DGs on GC who offer wonderful advice and stories to share!! ITB!

 Jeers to my 2nd VP Recruitment on Panhellenic for choosing to consistently lie to me about not being able to come to meetings in order to for the rest of council to be updated on the plans for recruitment.

:D Cheers to the Lambda Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma who are celebrating their 125th anniversary of being on The University of Akron's campus this year.

TrojanGirl 07-20-2002 07:41 PM

:D Cheers to the sisters of Pi Phi Arkansas Beta who worked so hard to make it through a rough semester...

:D Cheers to the GLO's at UALR who stood by us!

 Jeers to acts of god that fry the equipment at work!

 Jeers to the girls I saw drinking in their letters from another University last night

 To MTV's Sorority Life.... just because!

TG

DeltaSigStan 07-20-2002 07:47 PM

:( Jeers to our Pi Phi coaches who, after we lost to Sammy BAD at Arrowspike, ditched us and left us alone at the beach (and haven't spoken with us since) when they were all cool with us beforehand.

GPhiSweetiePie 07-20-2002 11:22 PM

:) Cheers to all GCers and the great stories you've all been posting lately!

:( Jeers to missing my sisters who live far away :(

:) Cheers to those who are rushing this year! I am so excited to hear where everyone ends up!

:) And cheers to those of us who will be rushing people (especially first-time rushers, like me!) The more sisters, the better :D

(On that note, anyone who has advice for me since it will be my first time on the other side of rush, PM me)
