manuals

i'm just curious as to see how many orgs have manuals that pledges use to get educated?? Ours is called The Manual of Theta Chi.

GmuTeke 12-11-2001 10:05 PM

Ours is called "The Teke Guide" an excellent read if i do say so. A good chunk of it can be found at our IHQ site if you're curious.

Phi Psi's is "The Manual of the Phi kappa Psi Fraternity." Not too original, but I know that their are others who have very interesting names.

Ours is "Delta Zeta and You" but when I went through it was just called "The Pledge Handbook". Still the same stuff, though.

The1calledTKE 12-12-2001 12:53 AM

I noticed how most the fraternity's pledge manuals are hardback where the sororities are paperback. I wonder why that is. I am not saying this is true in every case just from what I have seen.

DeltAlum 12-12-2001 01:12 AM

"A Life of Excellence" is the Delt Pledge Manual. I'm trying to remember what it was called when I pledged in 1966, but I can't.

BrianMUDU 12-12-2001 01:17 AM

Ours used to be The Manual of Delta Upsilon. Then it was Our Record. Now it is The Cornerstone: Delta Upsilon's Guide to College and Beyond. Yeah, a little long, that is why we just call it the Cornerstone. That is what we all get during pledging, but we also makes Pledge Manuals as a chapter that the Pledge Ed puts together.

dzsaigirl 12-12-2001 01:20 AM

I think the Cornerstone is a very good manual. I have read it and I think some parts are so cute. Like about how to balance your college career and make time for dates and stuff! I love DU!

I believe ours are called the "Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity Education Manual" but they just revamped them so I don't know if they changed the name.

Optimist Prime 12-12-2001 10:17 AM

I think ours needs to be revamped. It will have a new edition next year. Also we had workbooks and interview books that we made. OUrs looked good. They had our letters going diangonal surrouding our coat of arms and hadour names, theta chi fraternity fall 2001 and beta class printed on them. :) we rocked.

UMgirl 12-12-2001 01:54 PM

Leslie, I think ours are called something different now... I think I just remember a big 1904 - Alpha Gamma Delta Guide Book, or something to that extent.
Does anyone else's talk about the different orgs (NPC, NIC and NHPC) also?

curiouss 12-12-2001 03:11 PM

We have em'.

Bologna Docet is what we use . . . IT needs to be updated.

I have read several Fraternity pledge books and they are all pretty similar in what they cover. In fact, there are probably 5-6 chapters that are almost exactly the same in each of them.

shadokat 12-12-2001 04:26 PM

We have the fine Delta Phi Epsilon New Member Pearl Manual, and it's this really great planner that's made by the same people that make those Covey planners. It's a cute little book with our logo on it, in a spiral bound book. VERY cool, much cooler than mine, which was a binder with photo copied pages.

Peaches-n-Cream 12-12-2001 05:37 PM

You are so lucky. My D Phi E pledge manual was the size of a pamphlet. It was very informative though. That was back when three or four of our founders were still alive!

Tom Earp 12-12-2001 05:56 PM

We have the 'Pedagogus' which gives the history of the International and many other things such as pixs of different chapter houses:)

BrianMUDU 12-12-2001 06:02 PM

dzsaigirl,

I'm glad you enjoyed reading The Cornerstone. Did you like the part that shows you how to tie a tie? :)

ladyj39 12-12-2001 06:14 PM

Our new member manual is called The Ivy Leaf and it's really informative! In my chapter, we also received a binder full of facts and songs too.

Miami1839 12-12-2001 10:47 PM

ours is very informative and covers a lot of great history of my fraternity and when others were started as well. We have a section that features Bettie Locke Hamilton too.

I never got a handbook from what I can remember....but two years ago can seem like forever! :) But, our new members get the CD-ROM so that they can learn all about ZTA.

yep, APO's Official Pledgeship Manual is the "Good Book" for our Fraternity's pledges, nothing has been taken away from the original, however, current updates are added on to it.

Phi Sigma Sigma has one! Its called Reflections

AOII's new member manual is called BRIDGES (Building Relationships and Ideas, Developing Goals, and Enriching Self). The copy that I have is a small loose-leaf binder but the updated manual (updated this summer) is a regular size one-inch binder and is really cool!
