Event coming up...what to wear

On Saturday I'm attending a sorority event as an interest and I'm trying to decide what to wear. It's a get together in Central Park, a BBQ I'm told, so nothing too fancy...but these sorority girls always look really cute and put together so I want to make sure I look good. What do you suggest I wear?

WhiteRose1912 07-25-2012 12:34 PM

Semi-casual business attire? :p Something comfortable that makes you look good, so you'll feel confident.

honeychile 07-25-2012 02:20 PM

What did the invitation say?

If there's no mention of what to wear, I'd go with a crisp shirtwaist style dress in a color that doesn't show stains well, and has pockets, comfortable shoes (cute ballet shoes or wedges), and carry a purse big enough for a lot of literature. Go easy on the jewelry - maybe a watch, necklace, and earrings.

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 05:45 PM

It doesn't mention anything about attire. What is a shirtwaist style dress??

FleurGirl 07-25-2012 05:55 PM

I'd just go with a cute cotton sundress and some nice sandals or wedges. Ditto on what honeychile said about the big purse, expect a lot of handouts to bring home.

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 06:04 PM

Okay. I have a lot of sun dresses. What sorts of handouts should I be expecting? It's the Annual SISTER/TIARA/INTEREST Summer Event.

ellebud 07-25-2012 06:50 PM

Central Park...as in New York Central Park? My daughter would wear those shorts that look like a very short skirt and a cute fuller gauzy top. Do not forget the cute jewelry and the accessory de jour: the panama hat (if you have the face for it.) As much as you might want to wear sunglasses..don't...hides the eyes. A sundress is a natural fabric...

Oh, and if there is food have a Tide stick with you...just in case.

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 07:07 PM

Yes, New York Central Park. I actually have a pair of those shorts you're talking about...as for jewelry...I have 2 necklaces that I never take off, 3 rings that I never take off, and a bracelet that I never take off, along with earrings. Is that good enough?

If you're trying to be discreet, this isn't the way to do it.

Discreet about what??

WhiteRose1912 07-25-2012 07:30 PM

What organization you're trying to join and where. Then again, maybe you're not, in which case carry on. :)

Greek_or_Geek? 07-25-2012 07:33 PM

I thought you were done with Greekchat after the last time you came here for wardrobe advice?

I wasn't trying to be discreet about the organization...but you have no idea where...not sure why you think you do...

Hockeynut 07-25-2012 07:40 PM

Don't be surprised if you experience intense humidity.

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 07:42 PM

I'm used to humidity...it's been an extremely humid summer.

WhiteRose1912 07-25-2012 07:51 PM

Because there are so many small Catholic schools in district IV (or on the chapter roll, period), surely no one would guess it.

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 07:52 PM

District IV?? And if you're so sure...what school?

I thought this said "intense humility."

Although that might end up being accurate as well.

If you are going to an INTEREST event, skip the sundresses or cutesy pie stuff (pretty much everything everyone has said to you in the thread) and go BUSINESS CASUAL. (Disclaimer: This suggestion comes solely from years of reading GC. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.)

(Everyone should have gotten the lightbulb over their heads at this point and realize they are out of their lane.)

I'm not sure how anyone interpreted the OP any other way...it's the middle of summer and NY.

Why would Le Moyne be having a picnic in Central Park?

She said she was going to this event as an "interest." Doesn't that suggest non-NPC?

KeepOnSingin 07-25-2012 09:29 PM

Not Le Moyne Either. Nice try, but you aren't gonna get it.

Dear NPCers,

Let this username figure out what needs to be worn, said, and done without the help of GC.

What would we do without you?

Uh yeah. I get that. She wanted people to guess.

I guess it's just a coincidence that their chapter is having the exact same event at the same place at the same time. Cool. :)

Sorry, I was misreading some of the posts.

Now, what's all this I keep hearing about violins on television?

Thanks for reminding me of this thread. I was fairly entertaining...at least to myself, which is pretty much all that matters in the GCverse.

Old_Row 07-25-2012 10:47 PM

College of Mount St. Vincent. That's my final answer.
