Eighty-six blessed years of awesome.

When George Lindsey (Goober) died just a few weeks ago, I was surprised to learn Andy was still alive.
I understand he was not a very pleasant person to work with.
But maybe that's why he was so good at what he did.
RIP.

I knew this day was coming, but it's still just so sad.

RIP indeed, to both a great Sinfonian who exemplified our values in so many ways and a great Tar Heel who dearly loved North Carolina.

Andy singing the lyrics to his show's theme song:

And probably my favorite - Andy explains the opera "Carmen"

Ilione that one. Andy started out doing the club (as in Rotary and Kiwanis) circuit in NC. My parents saw him at a Kiwanis Ladies' Night in my home town. His routine was full of these "retellings" -- "Romeo and Juliet" (which got worked into an "Andy Griffith Show" episode the first season), "Hamlet," "Swan Lake" . . . .

Our favorite, though, was always "What it Was Was Football," which is on YouTube but I'm having trouble linking it.

When I was a little girl,we would always come back in the house from playing just in time to watch the show and eat PB and J sandwiches. Thanks for the memories Andy!

RIP Andy. My late BFF had an autographed photo of him in her house

From a hick, hill billy in "no time for sargeants", from mayberry to matlock.

what a great career and so very well thought of.

Not any greater than Andy.

What it was, it was football was my all time favorite, too.

This really saddens me. I always stop down and watch Andy when I come across him on tv. I always wanted to live in Mayberry.

christiangirl 07-03-2012 08:39 PM

I saw this and got really sad. Then I started to whistle the theme song.

Something that just seems so very odd to me about his death today.... apparently he passed away this morning, but was already buried as of early this afternoon. Does anyone know why the rush?

That is how his family had planned it.

That is also how my family members and I wish to be laid to rest. Quickly (with the hope that our passings are not untimely and filled with drama). Some of us wish to quickly be buried and the others wish to be quickly cremated and sprinkled where their wills indicate.
