"Sorority Boys" movie
When I was at the theater tonight to see "Ocean's Eleven" (fabulous, BTW), I saw a poster for a movie called "Sorority Boys". The poster featured three college-age men dressed up as women. When I got home, I decided to do a little digging about the film and found this synopsis:
After three rowdy guys get booted from their frat house, they dress up as women and pledge the "ugly girl" sorority, where they figure they'll blend right in. In their new environment, the men relinquish their frat mentality and realize how hurtful they have been to women over the years. When their less-than-stunning female forms earn them an invite to a "dog catcher" party at their old frat, they decide to brave the harassment so they can grab the rest of their belongings from the house and make a clean break. I also found out the original title of this movie was "Dog Catcher". Has anyone else heard anything about this film? |
Here's another article on "Sorority Boys"
Boys Will Be Girls
By Anna David Photo by David Strick It isn’t easy being a homely girl—especially when you’re a guy. Just ask the three rather masculine young men on the football field who are getting crushed by pink-clad coeds while also putting Tammy Faye to shame in the makeup department. It’s just another day on the set of Sorority Boys. Before learning the distinction between eyeliner and lipliner, the main characters, played by Barry Watson (Teaching Mrs. Tingle), Michael Rosenbaum (Urban Legend), and Harland Williams (The Whole Nine Yards), were three misogynistic college students. Falsely accused of embezzling funds from their fraternity—and tossed out of the house—they try to exonerate themselves by gathering evidence from within the frat. Since only girls are invited inside, they RuPaul it and rush the Delta Omicron Gamma sorority, or “DOG house.” Soon they learn what it’s like to be ridiculed, harassed, and even victimized by their own previous “scamming” credo: Guys should go after the ugliest girls if they want to get laid. With its dildo fights and distinctly non-PC jabs at homosexuality, Sorority Boys is about as un-Disney a movie as the mouse house is likely to make. But it was the film’s moral center that appealed to director Wallace Wolodarsky (Coldblooded). “It’s a story about men learning to be better men by being women,” he says. Wolodarsky, a former supervising producer on The Simpsons, corralled his old writing colleagues for two six-hour “joke punch-up” sessions. (He estimates that about 70 percent of those jokes ended up on-camera.) If all this mischief-making and cross-dressing makes you think of National Lampoon’s Animal House or Bosom Buddies, you’re not alone. The filmmakers are actually playing up the resemblance, casting actors from both the classic movie and the TV series in bit parts. The lead actors enjoyed getting in touch with their femininity. “I hope Daisy’s pretty,” says Watson, on break from getting clobbered in football, of his character’s female persona. He admits he “felt naked” at a recent awards show “without the lipstick and eye stuff done.” Still, cross-dressing takes some getting used to. “I’ll be talking to a cute girl and wondering why she’s not taking me seriously before I remember I’m in drag,” confesses Rosenbaum, who likens his look to “Ethel Merman meets Uma Thurman meets Tori Spelling, with a little J.Lo going on in the booty.” As for Williams, he’s getting used to his Kathy Griffin–esque appearance—and the male attention it can attract. “I haven’t seen George Clooney lingering around the set, giving me the eye,” he sighs, flipping his reddish ponytail. “But I did see a janitor behind a tool shed kind of waving his rake at me.” http://www.premiere.com/Premiere/Sho.../sorority.html |
Sounds like a great one to miss.

Yeah, I think I can safely say I won't lose any sleep over missing that one.

I'm a sucker for crappy movies...when does this one open?

it's scary to think that there was once a room full of writers, directors, and producers who thought this would be a good idea for a movie. I for one will skip this disaster.

Is the guy in white wearing Chi Omega letters or is one letter covered up? (i.e. Something-Chi-Omega)? |
Iota Chi Omega
Cutie, I think it's Iota Chi Omega. There is definately another letter there, and if you look at the guy in the black tank top, his letters are Iota Chi Omega.
You know that there's no way Chi Omega (or any sorority or fraternity) would let a film like that use their letters! In fact, I was once talking to a staff member of Tri-Delta, and she was saying that they get approached all of the time for people to use their letters and/or greek houses (esp. some in CA I guess) in films. And it's never any situation you would want your GLO represented in, so of course they say no. But it makes you wonder why those people would think you would want that kind of exposure in the first place  . |
Well, I dont know about yall, but I can hardly wait for these movies to get to sat. dish! Should been soon after opening, then I can turn it over!:D
|
What about the tri-delt skit on Saturday Night Live years ago. Wouldn't they need approval from tri-delt to use their name/letters?
|
If you look into some Greek 101 catalogs, I think thats the one, they advertise the Going Greek movie.... Huh... Why?!
|
eh
what does grssk mean? :)

That poster....ugh. Why does it remind me of those hideous 70's drive-in flicks that end up on USA at 4 in the morning?? |
The movie was filmed at USC last summer and I know quite a few people who worked on it -- even they say it is really bad (has no plot, etc.). I don't remember what thread it was, but I think I posted something about it back in August or September. It is actually a Disney film and the previous thread talked about the fact that you can't trust anyone in Hollywood to portray things truthfully.
We all felt really bad for ADP b/c they let their house be used for filming and their house is the DOG (delta omicron gamma) house. They had a sign out in the yard that said DOG during the filming. Not exactly the image anyone wants to portray. |
they both sound like two great movies to go see, laugh at, and then be glad that greek life is nowhere near as bad as Hollywood wants it to be.
|
My friend who is a Tri-delt, told me that the girl who did the SNL skit was a tri-delt also, thats why she did it. Anyone know for sure?
|
The "Going Greek" movie looks very stupid, but I saw a preview for "Sorority Boys" when I saw "Not Another Teen Movie" and it actually looks like it will be funny.
|
My understanding is that "Sorority Boys" promotes just about every negative sterotype about the greek system. There are a good sorority and a bad sorority and the plot involves fun things like the boys throwing dildos at the chapter house of the "bad" sorority, or the DOGs.
Unless they've done some pretty major editing of what was filmed, I find it hard to believe that anyone will find it humurous except for those who don't like the Greek system, who will use it as proof that the things that go on are what Greek life is all about. |
CutiePie2000 - It was IOTA chi omega :)

Not So Bad?

Actually, from what I understand, this movie is about three guys that get kicked out of their fraternity and some how end up mascarading as members of the Delta Omicron Gamma (DOG) Sorority. While this does sound like the beginning of a possible train wreck, once the three guys get to know the girls, they realize how awesome they are and they help the girls get revenge on everyone that treated them like crap. Will people get the wrong idea of Greek life because of this movie? It's possible...some Greek haters will say Greek Life is terrible no matter what. I reserve the right to change my mind once the movie comes out, but I think it might be entertaining. Maybe it will be like "Legally Blonde"...yes Elle was the stereotypical blonde, perfect, ditzy sorority girl, but in the end she was intelligent and you liked her. Perhaps this movie will have that quality. I think the movie "Sorority Rule" (which has now been put on hold) would have been worse. To check it out, go to: http://www.upcomingmovies.com/sororityrule.html |
Sorority boys looks like a remake of a movie made a decade or so ago about some fraternity pledges that masquerade as new girls in a sorority in order to (I think) steal their composite or something. And of course one of the guys developes a crush on one of the girls . . . and they all learn to be more sensitive.
Sorority Rule that Leslie mentions, actually reads to me like a composite of a lot of the Threads in the Rush forumn. Especially if you combined some of the dissapointed ones, with strangest things, strangest Rushees, and recount your experience. But I bet they would be just fun entertainment |
I checked out that site LeslieAGD. I think you're right. That movie would be a lot worse. Besides just being techincally incorrect ("pledges" and sisters wouldn't have that kind of contact to make her over),the stereotypes are a lot worse. And since its not hailed as a spoof and comedy, many wouldn't take it for fiction.
|
These movies seem silly and well on their way to the bottom shelf of your local movie rental place. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. I certainly wouldn't spend $10 to see either flick. That is, if they are even made and released.
|
I wonder if this movie is going to be for mass release in theatres or just a limited area.
|
How could you not take it as fiction? Like no one in a sorority would notice the facial hair???
|
Gee, you should quote whoever your replying too lol
|
I hope to God this is a joke. The only thing this movie would accomplish is to portray Greek life in an unfavorable light. I'm sure we can all agree that the Greek world has had plenty of that already. We certainly don't need any more.
|
Can you say "straight to video"??? LOL
|
"We need the dues!" :)
|
Sounds like another lame excuse for a B-movie. It should prolly go straight to TV with a 2am Sat. night airing on USA net.
Do you think maybe its the unabridged autobiography of Bridget3D...lol. |
Sorority Boys is being screened on campus tomorrow night and I'm working it for PAC. I'll let you know how it is. :D
H~~~~ |
It's being screened here at WSU tomorrow night as well. We just had an add in our paper with the picture, and the time, but no description, so this is the first I've really heard about the plot. I'm going to see if I can get some friends together to go laugh at it. I'm pretty sure people don't actually believe this is the way things are. Doesn't anyone remember BH 90210 with the KEG (kappa epsilon gamma) house? I mean come on!
