Chi Omega
Ok, gang, since we are doing everyone else, let's have it......how are the Chi Os?
|
XO's were very very good at A&M. Unfortunately, you usually had to be a legacy to get in. I did not try to get a rec b/c I am not a legacy and thus I did not go to their house during rush. Again though-excellent chapter.
|
Well, obviously there's no XO chapter here at the University of Hawaii, but I know that Chi Omega rocks because their Greekchat chapter is amazing!!! ;)
|
My best friend is Chi-O at Cal Berkeley, and I love her and her chapter!!!
Greek Love, Lil Snakey K |
I cannot figure out how to find my old entry regarding Chi O, but here is a brief idea...
I love them, they are great at ECU, in my day and will always be. They are a role model chapter and helped my chapter during colonization. I hope that soon our new chapter will be top teir fighting with them for the #1 position! |
The Chi Omega chapter at George Mason Univ. is absolutely amazing, but I'm biased!!!!!! We're very strong and involved on campus!
|
Nothin' but Love for XO...
Oooh, we had some ferocious battles with Chi Omega over the prize rushees during my years at Pitt! They were our biggest rival, but we still respected them because they were just great girls! XO was a very close second choice for me and I felt confident filling out my pref card that I would have been happy there if I hadn't gotten DZ.
The Pitt Chi-O's went through a few lean years, but I understand they had a FANTASTIC rush this fall and I know it's only a matter of time before the legendary recruitment battles start up again. Not a group I would ever count out! PS Two of my best friends in the world are Chi Omegas, and I also think every one of the Chi-O's on GreekChat are awesome ladies :) |
My best friend is a Chi O at Oklahoma State. They're awesome!!!
|
The Chi-O's at the UA are a very strong chapter. They aren't what would be thought of us the rich girls or the prettiest but they always make quota and are well above total. They're very down to earth and all of the chi-o's that I have met have been very nice. They just got a brand new chapter house a few years ago and I know that a lot of people really like it.
|
Chi-O is extremely strong at Duke, and respected by pretty much everyone - they're not snobby and they aren't hung up on all of their members being thin and "hot" (and contrary to what some here might think, that doesn't make them "weak" or unliked - they have no problems with the fraternities liking them, the other sororities like them, and even non-greeks say they're a cool group). Very down-to-earth. I like every Duke Chi-O that I've met. They have the most members out of any sorority here, I think...if it's not the most, they're in 2nd.
|
Chi O is a wonderful house at FSU. They are pretty and many of them come from wealthy families. All of the ones I have ever encountered are very sweet and down to earth. They always do well in All Greek competitions and seem to have a lot of spirit.
|
I absolutely love Chi O's, Every single one I've met has just been incredibly nice. One of our rush chairs was going out with one during the summer rush season and I immediatly found out that Chi 0's were awesome.
Here at UNL, almost all their members are in the Honors Program so they are an academic house for sure--usually second or third in grades i think, and they are of above average looks--they have a good diverse mix, but none so hot that guys are intimidated. But the main thing is how nice, and personable they are. I totally think that they are our female equivalent. I totally love em. |
Well, I've only met two Chi Os besides here on Greek Chat. Both of them very classy ladies. Oh my god, this one had the cutest little southern dialect.
The Chi O's on this board are some of my favorite people ever. Nationally, however, they are lazy. Or just really busy. That may come accross the wrong way, but get off your butts and colonize at Radford!! ;) I love ya!! |
Chi Omega at Clemson is considered a very 'fun' sorority, and their girls are usually very down to earth and outgoing. They have a LOT of fun at their socials - we had a joint crush party with them last fall and it was a blast!! I have friends in Chi O at Winthrop, USC, and C of C, and all of those chapters have similar reputations - fun, party girls who have their stuff together!!
|
Chi-O at my school
I liked the Chi-O's a lot during rush, but I don't think I had a very accurate picture of what they were like back then. They are ok but not great here. For the most part they are friendly and down-to-earth, but as a rushee I did not realize how prevalent the pot-smoking was among a fair number of the girls (nothing like that in my sorority)... something I'm definitely NOT into, and I'm glad I didn't end up in a group like that. They don't all seem to get along that well as a whole. They didn't get quota last year, and I think a lot of their pledges had preffed other houses. I know some Chi-O's who actually complain about the sorority to "outsiders." There are internal cliques (I can't see certain girls being friends with some of the others in that house, that's how random some of them are), and issues as dumb as who sits at which lunch table. Not to be overly negative (and I'm not saying which school I'm at), but this is my opinion of the group as a whole. A lot of the girls are fine on an individual basis.
|
I met a Chi Omega from LSU here in New York. She seemed nice and smart and is very pretty. She represents you well. :)
|
I can only say good things about Chi O at UCF!! UCF also has a very strong Greek System. We were voted #1 Greek System in Florida. The system is growing, Theta just colonized last year (I love those girls, too!!). Our chapters here, on a whole, are very strong.
Chi Omega has only been on campus since April 1998, but for the little time we've been here, we've done so much!! We placed in numerous events such as Homecoming, Dance Marathon, Greek Week, and other philanthropies. The current panhellenic president and treasurer are Chi Omegas. Most of all, and the most important to me, is that we have SUCH a close sisterhood. Where ever you go, you see Chi Os hang out in huge numbers. We're a diverse group of girls who are well respected here at UCF. It's so nice to hear all the kind words about Chi Omegas from other schools!! :) We rock! |
The Chi Omegas at Arizona State are an incredibly strong chapter. They are one of the highest in academics. They are an all-around good group of girls.
|
Twinstars,
I'm sorry that the chapter at your school has given off a bad impression. I hope you have gotten to know the Chi O's on G.C. and have seen us in a better light. I know the ones on this board that I have met are role models I would want my children to look up to. Can't comment on Chi O's though for this post- I'm totally biased and love each and every one of them!!!! Sue;) |

XO doesn't have a chapter on my campus. I'm hoping Erica will come here and start one. ;) |
Chi Omega's at Emporia State University
Some of my best friends were Chi Omega's at ESU. They just opened a brand new house and it's beautiful. We were the biggest rivals (in a very good way), and always helped one another to be the best. Great Panhellenic sisters.
Interfraternally, |
The XOs that I knew at GMU were very nice and smart. I didnt hang out with them really(not as much as aoii) but they were really cool. I had a blast at a xo formal at vt once. All the xos on gc are very nice :)

Hey Miami,
I'm part of the GMU chapter now! I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to know or hang out with any girls from our chapter. We definately have a very strong presence on campus and a good sisterhood! We're the top sorority for academics, we won intramurals last year, Derby Days several years in a row, and Greek Week! But all the chapters on campus are great girls! _______________________________________________ "...to be womanly always, to be discouraged never..." |
Hey ChiOqt,
Thank You. Dont get me wrong I new a few xos but we didnt generally hang out with them all the time. I just wished we did hang out more but thats ok. I had one brother, jack, that dated one of your sisters and another brother mike d. that actually married one of your sisters.(they are almost 10 yrs apart). I agree, all the sororities at Mason are fine sororities. Especially XO. :) |

Chi Omega at Indiana University....
Hottest sorority on campus!! Id go as far as saying untouchable. Nah, no one is that surreal. But as far as repuation goes...I'll break down and be superficial...Chi Omega probably has the best. They have the hottest girls and party pretty hard. I dont know how their grades go, but I know that they're pretty respected. All of the fraternities want to pair with them but only a select few are so lucky:) XP2k |
ChiOS
I haven't rushed yet.. at Cornell we have our rush in the spring.
Since I placed out of a lot of freshmen classes, I'm taking more advanced classes and have met quite afew upperclassmen in various sororities here. I'm not saying this to be mean, but I have 2 friends in ChiO here. I feel bad for them because they are the nicest and sweetest girls, but have the smallest house on campus, and people call them rude names such as "Cow Omega", how rude! They get a lot of girls from the marching band via informal rush, and they usually appeal to girls who wouldn't think of joining a sorority. The two girls I know still love their house so much, but they are always stressed out cause they only have 40 girls or so and most ofthe other houses have 110-130 girls. Three out of the thirteen sororities at Cornell have really low numbers, yet Cornell does nothing to help them. They are even talking about bringing in a new sorority when three sororities never even make quota. How's that fair??? |
I know one of the alums from the ChiO chapter at Cornell and she is very nice and very talented. I don't know the other members at that chapter, but this sister is an excellent role model for any sorority.
|
I agree H2oot. The member you are talking about is intelligent, talented, funny and very attractive. I am proud to have her as a sister!
|
Yes you can't win, everyone has a bad nickname. If it's a weak chapter they are called "Cow Omega" (or if your hubby wants to be a jerk he calls it that!!!) If you were a strong chapter, you are the Chi Hos.....(we got that one a lot although we were FAR from hos!!!!!!!)
|
"Cow Omega" ?
Ive never heard of a weak Chi Omega chapter. |
I have been witness to a very weak Chi O chapter and a very strong one. Both at different schools I went to. Chapters vary from school to school, so finding out how your sorority is doing at whatever school is not necessarily useful info. Love your sorority no matter what!
|
I've heard the Chi Ho thing, but not Cow Omega. I've only heard the Cow thing with Phi Moo. Like it was said, all sororities have a name to dis them.
I am not aware of any weak ChiO chapters (relatively speaking with the other chapters on a particular campus). From what I know, if a chapter is not keeping up, nationals usually gets involved, and they either meet a standard or they lose their charter. Sometimes, I think they pull the charter too soon, but since I am not there, I am not the one to judge. |
Sometimes it doesn't matter if your chapter is weak or strong. If there is a nickname that can be "cleverly" made of your letters or that rhymes people will use it.
I do have a question. A good friend of mine is a Chi-O at another university in Oklahoma. Ya'll have like four here. The ones I know if are OU, OSU, TU, and East Central. I personally don't know much about the East Central chapter but I do know that East Central is a small regional school (AKA-easy to get into). Most people that go there end up transfering to a state university after a year or two. She gets very frusterated because they have to take them and they aren't the same type of girls they would have pledged. It does make the house bigger in numbers though. My chapter also has this problem. I was just wondering if any of you have this problem of girls from weaker chapters affiliating. It's like being between a rock and a hard place. They are sisters but they change the make up of your chapter and we can't do much about it. Just curious. |
About having to take transfers, you don't. If I were to transfer to another school and wanted to affiliate with a Chi Omega chapter there, that chapter would vote to have me join their chapter. If I was not a "high quality" person, they would not have to accept me into their chapter. On the other hand, say that chapter wasn't one I fit in with, I would not have to affiliate with them.

Sorry to jump in on your discussion (since I'm not Chi O) but from experience, I have to say that having a semester to decide the affiliation process is a good idea. I wish I had taken a closer look at the new chapter instead of just assuming things would be the same.
|
The Chi Omega chapter at Montana State is the largest sorority on campus. They are a bunch of fun girls and always seem to be having a good time. I have three really good friends in the chapter, two of them just graduated, and one will be a senior next fall. For living right across the street from them, though, we don't do a whole lot of things together. The one thing we have is an ongoing prank war that's gone back farther than i can remember!
|
Well, I'm not going to yak on and on about my own chapter(which is the best!! :D ) but I do want to say this: I have a friend who is in the University of Louisville chapter (Beta Gamma I think) and she represents them so well!! Shes so smart, funny, beautiful-she rocks!!
|
Chi Omega had such low numbers at USC that in the 90's they had to close down. Oh well.
