Kappa Alpha Thetas?
Sorry to jump on teh bandwagon, but I'm wondering how my Theta sisters are doing around the country... feel free to be open and honest.
Thanks :) |
I hate to say it, but my memories of Theta are not exactly fantastic. There were a coupld of sweeties in there, i remember the President being a great girl and a wonderful greek and i'm sure she still is. But, we did Greek Week with them, and well, to have only 10 girls out of a house of about 80 show up to events was pretty apathetic. Kind of tarnished my image of their pride in their letters by their lack of drive but, they might be different now. Then again, that was only last semester. Definetly not a bad house, like I said, some girls were awesome, but, I really thought they would hold themselves to a higher standard.

Theta at Texas Tech...
Just one word is needed: Outstanding. In every way. I admire the Thetas' sisterhood, activities, involvement, they're a great group at Texas Tech.

TechAPhi, that is wonderful :)! |
Eh, the Thetas here don't have a very positive image...I guess within the Greek system they're liked by a lot of the fraternities for being "hot partiers" or whatever, but they're pretty much the stereotypical "sorority girl", and not respected at all by the campus community as a whole. I do know a couple of nice ones, but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
|
The Thetas here are snobs of the highest order. I know a lot of nice girls in the chapter. The chapter as a whole is very snobby. Even the girls I'm friends with tend to think that (when it comes to their sorority) they are better than everyone else.
We have a basement song about them that goes along with their "Boom Boom" song. It's hilarious but I don't want to post it here because it's not nice. |
Well.. I hate to see some of these replys I am use to only seeing positive things about theta with just a few negatives...Every sorority has there snobby "typical sorority/fraternity" appeal. But I am very proud to be a Kappa Alpha Theta. Theta is one of the oldest fraternities around and is still going strong and is greatly respected by many. So before you start bashing my organization look at your own is it perfect at every school....hmmm probably not. And to the girl who's chapter has a song about us...that shows pure class.
|
Thetas at A&M were very strong when i was there. Very smart -I sooo admired them for that. They were defintely a strong house.
BTW the question says to be open and honest, I think Greek Girlie was doing this. Unfortunately when these questions are asked you have to take the good with the bad-especially if says be open and honest. |

Sigh. I really hate to be mean, but to be honest the Thetas here are the snobby ones who are all blonde and tan. For the longest time I had a horrible connotation with the Thetas, but actually this year I've gotten to know a few of them and have seen that they aren't as bad as the reputation shows them to be. Overall they are a strong chapter and really that's all that is important, right? :)
|
Everyone's got at least one basement song going around about them...do we need to jump on that one person who admits it? We have to realize that sometimes you hear good stuff, sometimes you hear bad. There are at least 150 Theta chapters, they can't all be perfect, can they?
With that in mind, my school's chapter. They've gotten recruitment infractions for various things (going over budget), they dirty-rushed me, and basically do whatever it takes to get a big pledge class (promise girls better housing, etc). I'm not chastising them for this, as my chapter did this in the past (before I came on board) They have a fairly high attrition rate. On an individual level, some of the girls in the house are some of my favorite people ever. They are smart, sweet girls who just happened to be in a sorority where some less than honest women ran the show. This will all change next year, as one of the "smart, sweet" girls will be running the show. I wish them the best of luck. |

I wasn't being disrespectful. I was telling the truth. We have basement songs about every chapter here. Most houses do on my campus. Our Theta one is particularly funny. I didn't post it-that would have been rude. If you can't handle what people may say-don't click on the thread. Start a thread that says "Only say good things about XYZ"

Thetas Rocks!!!
My sister is a Theta at Fresno State, one of my good friends from high school is a Theta at Cal Poly SOL, and my "greek twin" is a Theta here at SDSU. I love all the Thetas!!! You girls rock! Josh |
I wasn't bashing anyone or anything, I know Theta is strong nationally, and I never claimed that my GLO is perfect everywhere either. Sheesh. She asked for honest perceptions - deal with it.
|
Theta is definately one of the sororities to get in here at Arizona. They have a huge chapter and their rep is for being Barbie-esque. They definately have a rep for being snobby and sometimes it seems well deserved. We had a dinner exchange with them last year though and they were really nice, surprised us all.
|
Theta is one of the top sororities at FSU. They are the "stereotypical sorority girls" though. All very skinny, rich, and pretty. They always do fabulous in recruitment and are very popular with the fraternities. However, they are seen by many others (both greek and independent) as being snobby. I had the opportunity to work closely with one of the Thetas on a Dance Marathon project and she was very nice but when I had to go to Theta house for a committee meeting I always felt very uncomfortable.
|
Theta is one of the smallest sororities at most schools (Wofford, Clemson, USC) in South Carolina, but one thing I really admire is how much pride their sisters take in their chapter. I've seen so many Thetas just beaming when they talk about their sorority, getting SO excited about rush (I hate it when actives complain about how tedious rush is!) and putting together a great dance routine for another sorority's philanthropy. I think they are really sweet, very close girls, even if their numbers aren't as high as other chapters. It's quality, not quantity, in my book that counts.

Thetas are one of the top houses at University of Maryland

They aren't at my school, and I don't know them.

Thank you
Hey,
Thanks everyone for all the comments! I do appreciate them. I did ask for honest feedback, and while it was really sad reading some of them, I did want to know how Theta is doing aruond the country, not just in Cali, you know? Unfortunately at my school we are also viewed as somewhat snotty, but we are working hard to change that. Sometimes, though, we have no idea why the rep still sticks with us, b/c other sororities do tell us that we are one of the sweetest, beneath the snotty stereotype. But, I just ask that you all give us a chance! :) We have surprised many, especially the independents, and they always go, "Wow I never thought you'd be so nice." But again, I really do appreciate feedback, good or bad...because we always can improve our image even more, right? :) And a big virtual hug to Thetagurl! Theta love, |

Theta at UCLA is full of girls who have a really slick preppy attitude about life. They dress well, they look good, and they sure don't want to have anything to do with my fraternity. They are an Abercrombie-type sorority. The kind of girls who drive nice cars and don't want to be around ordinary people. Of course, there are some nice girls in it but the balance of the group leans far too much toward the preppy side.
Our fraternity had dinner with them in spring 2000 and out of about 90 girls I think 30 came. Most of the girls went back to their rooms in about 15 minutes. They kicked us out after an hour. I didn't like that. I'm still polite to them though. |
my Theta chapter
I'm a Theta at a school in the mid-Atlantic region. We have a strong chapter, and nationals has been pretty pleased with us lately. Last year we got an awesome pledge class and a ton of legacies. We are known on campus for having more athletes than the other sororities, but there are plenty of us who aren't into sports. We make a point of trying to be friendly with all groups on campus... the last thing we want to seem is snobby. We are cute and dress nicely but we're not really the "girly girls" on campus. We are laid-back and we like to have fun. There seems to be very very little drug use going on (unlike most other houses) or at least no one would ever talk about it openly if it were.
We mix with a lot of fraternities... pretty much any group that asks us. I don't think there's any other sorority on campus that mixes with a greater number of frats. I think my chapter is remarkably clique-free. We are friendly with girls in other pledge classes and it would be considered totally out-of-line to speak badly about another Theta in any sort of group setting. I am really proud of my chapter... I know a lot of girls in other groups at my school have not had nearly such a positive sorority experience. |

Of course, I'm biased, but the Kappa Alpha Thetas at my school are top-notch, with Chi O always our number one competitor for the top-slot. We are a chapter composed of multi-faceted girls...all with intelligence, sweetness, sense of humor, classiness and beauty, inside and out. Never will you hear bad words about a Theta on my campus!! |
Didnt have Theta at GMU but I worked with one when I waited tables in college. Shes a Theta Alum from Tech and is super cool :) We often shared stories and had a great time :)

At Indiana University, Theta is a strong house.
They have a pretty good reputation. The girls are smart and for the most part pretty. From what I hear, most of the girls have $$money$$. They probably have one the nicest sorority houses on campus. It beautiful and one of the oldest (I think IU's chapter is the Beta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta). They arent known for being slutty, they're wholesome midwestern girls. In the same hand, they arent known for partying much either. Overall though, a great group of girls. // |
I didn't know them in college really, but one of my closest friends now is a Theta. She and her sisters (oh, Michigan State chapter) are great girls who are still close after college. They had, from what I remember, a good rep on campus and liked to have a lot of fun.
|
Theta was one of my favorite houses at USC. It came down to Theta, DG and Chi O for me and I loved them all!
Thetas were a great group of girls. Very involved and visible, sweet and fun. Good friends. Definitely one of the top houses at SC. |
Theta was the first sorority I cut during rush, but they are one of the top chapters here, no question. They have a rep for being gorgeous but also snotty and wild...I've heard all of those things. The girls I talked to during rush seemed fake to me, but then, I think most chapters are at least a little fake during rush so that's not why I cut them; it just didn't feel "right" to me. :p

awatters--
:) what's your point? I've known Thetas at both SC and UCLA and both have strong, great houses... just wondering... Amy |
I love Thetas, in fact I married one ;) While the Theta chapter on my campus (Auburn University) experienced a rapid and unfortunate decline in membership in the late 1990's and regretfully was closed due to lack of numbers, they were always one of my favorite chapters. The ladies were all unique individuals; and while EVERY chapter on campus has its share of great ladies, the girls in Theta were always among the nicest and most down to earth. My fraternity little sister was a Theta and the first date my lovely wife and I went on was her freshman formal to Stone Mountain, Ga. While I can't speak for all Theta chapters or their reputation nationwide, I can certainly tell you that among all the GLOs, next to my fraternity, Theta holds the fondest memories for me and I wish each and every one of their chapters continued sucess.

Kappa Alpha Theta in Canada!
There used to be Kappa Alpha Theta at UBC, but alas, they closed their chapter in 1980!
I knew a KAT from University of Western Ontario and she is great! Here is some interesting trivia for you...the FIRST EVER sorority chapter established in Canada was (you guessed it!) Kappa Alpha Theta, at U of Toronto - Sigma (1887-1941). Unfortunately, that chapter is now closed. (I believe that the oldest Canadian NPC chapter is Alpha Phi at U of Toronto, Xi Chapter, 1906). I only know one KAT personally, but she is great, and I've heard very good things about KAT and that is a well regarded and respected sorority! :) Here's the overall KAT presence in Canada... Operating Chapters: University of Alberta - Beta Chi, 1931 University of Western Ontario - Gamma Epsilon, 1937 McGill - Beta Psi, 1932 Inactive Chapters: UBC - Beta Epsilon (1980-1980) U of Toronto - Sigma (1887-1941) U of Guelph - Epsilon Chi (1987-1998) |
mizzou thetas
The Thetas at the university of missouri are known for being overachievers. They always get first in grades and first in sports. They always place high in competitions, in fact with the men in farmhouse they won all the categories of homecoming (a huge deal at mizzou) except a second place finish in flout. They are a good group of girls who are wel respected but known for being kinda perfectionists and a lil too focused on winning and grades than having fun, but when you get to know them you see they know how to have fun and get stuff done.
|
I was so glad to read all about Thetas since I just finished pledging. :)
Theta love to all my new sisters!!! |
There's no Kappa Alpha Theta at my campus...
But I was working on the school's TV News show (anchoring) and there was a package (story) about a newly upgraded community pool. The lifegaurd they interviewed was wearing a Kappa Alpha Theta cap.. Closest chapter I'm aware of is at Tulsa... Not sure if you're at Oklahoma or OK State. |

but in keeping with the vein of what this thread was originally intended for and on a more positive note :) : i love theta very much here. it is a wonderful house, the girls are so amazing that no matter how i try to attempt to describe them, it wouldn't do them justice, and pledging this house was one of the best things that i've done so far in college. theta has a great reputation at syracuse and although, it's far from perfect, it's pretty damn close to me ;) . |
