New Sorority
I went through the rush process at my college and really enjoyed it.
Ultimately, I'd love to open another sorority. I keep thinking it would be great and if all those women in history could do it why can't I open a chapter? What exactly are the steps I need to take? |

ETA: Beta Gamma chapter closed in 2000, not 30 years ago. |
Just because there is an awesome house available on campus and the Greek Life Director made a random remark doesn't mean that it is a good idea to expand.
Also, I would edit your post to remove your school and the name of the closed chapter. GC and the internet are not as anonymous as you think! |
I don't think the first sentence of the second paragraph is necessary.

That picture is quite ridiculous. |
reasons I cited. I could or could not be wrong I really wasn't trying to get specific on why they closed.

Sounds like you knew exactly why they closed. |
BUT THE HOUSE IS SO CLOSE TO A GREAT FRAT!!! OMG THAT MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER AND WE SHOULD THROW OUT ALL THE EXPANSION RULES!!!

Forget it, I didn't realize the process was so extensive. You all are correct. Sorry to waste a thread.
The moderator can delete it, but thank you for the input |

I just wanted to know steps to take in looking into opening a new chapter on campus. But a few of the responses have helped me decide against it-it's a lot more in depth than I have figured. And I thank everyone for opening my eyes to that.
And no I didn't think I "signed a lease", I just don't want to be a part of this anymore. Kappa is a fabulous sorority. I regret turning it down everyday, but other things were influencing my final decision (not quite making it for me but definitely ruining it for me-especially problems at home) It had nothing to do with the sorority at all. I love the girls I know who are in Kappa and I thoroughly respect them. They are wonderful people. Not asking for sympathy-just asking to be deleted from GC. |

It is not impossible for people to start new chapters, but in the time frame that most people are in undergrad, for them to be active in the new chapters, it is unrealistic. This is why it is often discouraged.
You went through recruitment once and received a bid. I don't know your class standing (sophomore, junior, etc.) but if you would like to try recruitment again, this would probably be your best bet to being in a sorority. Keep in mind it will probably be harder this time. Why? Because sororities usually prefer freshman AND you declined a bid. I'm not saying Kappa will drop you because you declined their bid, but doing that definitely gives off the "I'm not interested" vibe, whether that's true or not. Give recruitment a shot if you want. I don't know if you can delete your username (unless they ban you, which they wouldn't because you haven't done anything wrong). They can lock this thread, but again there's not much that's terribly offensive in it. I would just stop posting if you choose or if you have a different question/discussion you can go ahead with that. |
