calling all college sports fans
 

Okay, I was just curious the reasons people cheer for certain college teams, if you are not an alum or current student at that school. Here are my reasons-


I am a HUGE Duke basketball fan because my grandfather and my aunt went there and when I was little, I always remember going to my grandparents house and watching basketball games with my dad and my grandpa. It was just kind of ingrained in us when we were little that Duke was fun to watch. And I loved the spirit of the Cameron Crazies. I didn't hurt that Duke always had one or two hot players, as well(I am so in love with WoJo, STILL). So, even though I went to Elon, I am a die hard Blue Devil b-ball girl. I think I am lucky though because Elon and Duke have never played(that would be sad--I doubt Elon would even score) but my brother goes to Wake Forest and he switched alliances now--guess that makes sense!

Anyone else have a team they root for and then attend a different school?

I'm a huge GA Tech fan, mainly because my dad, uncle and brother all attended Tech. We've had season tickets to every football game since I was 4 years old, and in every house we've owned, we've had at least one room dedicated to Georgia Tech memorabilia. :)

I wasn't very interested in math and science in high school, and Georgia Tech didn't offer a journalism degree, so I went to a school that did. However, I never lost my love for the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech! :D

My whole family are big Penn State football fans. Since we aren't too too far away, I guess it seemed like the logical choice. My uncles usually go to one or two Penn State games each year. Saturdays are usually spent in front of the tv cheering on JoPa and the Nittney Lions. Last week was a very big dissapointment when they got kicked out of the running for the Alamo Bowl.:(

Ok, I even though I went ro UM, I am serious Notre Dame and Syracuse fans. Im considered evil for being a ND one and going to UM.

My area has nothing but ND alumni and along SU (2 hours away) theyer are just teams ive grown up on and I will always be a fan.

I don't go to UNL but I'm a Husker fan. Although I think simply living in the state of Nebraska makes you a Husker fan...but the rules apply so GO BIG RED!

The first thing that comes to mind for me is that I am a new Hampton basketball fan. Last year, they were so much fun to watch during March madness, and the way the team was so exuberant when picking up their coach after winning a big game is one of my favorite sports moments of all time. They seemed like such a fun, great group of guys, so I'm a fan now!

I'm a huge Auburn fan b/c I grew up in Auburn and my Dad, Aunt, and Uncle all went there. Decided to come to FSU because Auburn really doesn't have much of a music department. I had to leave much of my orange and blue attire at home, though b/c unfortunately ;) those are the colors of the Gators.

I'm a Vols fan and never attended UTK, I attended UTC (and now APSU). Why am I a fan?? I guess partly b/c I live in TN and it's sort of expected, the stairway in my house is covered in Vols stuff. Plus I graduated HS with one of the guys who is playing a lot this year and it's cool to see him score and think "I knew him back when". But I'll probably always be a Vols fan. (My dad wouldn't let me in the house if I was a FL fan! LOL!)

I didn't go to UM, but I visited it when I was looking at colleges, and my uncle went there-I always cheer for their football team. Love them. I also cheer for Colorado, and Texas, who is my absolute favorite!! That was a really hard game for me to watch though, I didn't know who I wanted to win.

Let's see... I love Duke B-ball - I don't know why, but they have some hotties and their fun to watch. I love the Vols and hate the Gators. I think this is because my mom is a UT alum (Heather, my mom feels the same way, but she still lets my sister in the house now that she goes to UF - I don't know why...), and for IAA I love Georigia Southern because I went there for 3 years before transferring to South Florida. I never switched my allegiances though I don't root for the USF Bulls:confused:

Even though I'm in the state of Texas, I still have to root for LSU and La Tech. If you think football season is wild, you should attend an LSU basketball game. November to March is my favorite time of year. As for La Tech, let's just say that the Lady Techters got robbed in '94 :(. I can't root for any other time till the National Championship makes it's way to Baton Rouge and Ruston:D

Yeah I graduated from La Tech in '95. So no matter how many school I go to, I will be a Techter for life!

It's a small world you were probably there together he was there 89-93.

I was born in NOrthern Iowa, in the eastern part of the state, so I will always be a Hawkeyes fan. Even if I don't go to school there. Even if there is no theta chi there.

I will always be a Kansas Jayhawk fan. I went to Grad school there.

Even up here in Canada, I have been a Duke fan since Gr 10 - did my first March Madness pool, and Duke has always been my pick .... that and Christian Laettner was so HOT (okay, so that dates me...) . and they like their Canadians too ....

I attended the university of Louisville, was a collegiate member of my sorority there, later returned there to finish my degree. But am I a Louisville athletics fan? No way!

I'm proud to be a die-hard, bleed blue, University of Kentucky fan and have been as long as I can remember. Couldn't tell you why, but I think my lifelong fandom was clinched when Kyle Macy transferred to UK years ago. GO BIG BLUE!!

Well I guess I should have read the whole topic first before I replied but here goes. I love watching Kansas State football- I went to the Cotton Bowl in 2001!! My best friend is a cheerleader at K-State and has been for 3 years! He is awesome so thats really why I like them..

I like Flordia state becuase thats where I was going to go to school at but I didn't. I wanted to go there so bad but when it came down to it I wanted to leave home go far away but I wasn't sure how far so I just ended up going only 4 hours away instead of out of state.. Sometimes I wish I would have gone to FSU but I can't do anything about it now. So its just nice to watch them play sports etc.

grew up in iowa, parents are alumni . . . so I LOVE the hawks, to this day i'll sit in the fraternity house and root against iowa state until my brothers think i'm retarded and kick me in my ass.

For that reason, I also happen to like Hampton, as someone else said before - because they beat the piss out of ISU, and therefor i'm always in their debt

University of Southern California Trojans all the way! !! ! Its my alma mater and I bleed cardinal and gold.

and, since I grew up in Las Vegas in the era of Jerry Tarkanian and the National Championship basketball team, I will always be a U N L V Basketball fan.

I love my Terps!! Can I just mention that we just beat Duke in the last Maryland/Duke game that will ever be played in Cole Field House? 87-73. Damn it feels good.

FSU was my dream school and second acceptance letter I got. Couldn't go though. My dad had also been friends with one of the football recruiting guys so that's how I came to love FSU football.

I'm a diehard UConn fan. I've followed UConn basketball about as long as I could follow sports, all the way back to when Cliff Robinson was on the team and they sucked. Now they're trying to build up the football team, and although they'll get killed, it'll be cool to see them play Miami next year.

As a kinda strange side-note - I also follow Syracuse football, especially since high school. For some reason, a lot of players from my area of CT have gone to Syracuse - I think it's because the old head coach of my high school was a captain of the team in the early 90s, and he still has connections in the football dept. there. It's been cool to see guys I played sports against in high school play big- time college football. (as an example, their current quarterback, R.J. Anderson, played high school baseball against me; and one of their recruits for next year, Tim Washington, went to my high school, he was three years younger than me and is friends with my sister).

I’m an ACC Basketball fan. When an ACC team plays another conference.....go ACC. If it is an ACC team playing against each other it’s basically Duke, Carolina, NC State, and Maryland.

I have to say that I am a University of Arizona Wildcats bball fan BIG time, I think pretty much anyone who grew up there can't help it. Its like a cult you ditch school to go to the rally when they win the national championship and teachers didn't make homework due on thurdays after bball games. For football I go for the CU Buffalos cause my whole family went there, including my grandma who was a Tri Delt there and my grandpa who was a Phi Psi (sp?) there too.

Well... I am a Huge Terps Fan, although, I don't go to University of Maryland College Park, all the other schools in MD go off of their school system and they are the only good football team and basketball team in MD(Sorry Morgan State :rolleyes: ) But I mean the Terps are Just the Maryland way to go!
I mean finally MD just beat Duke this weekend (knock on wood) so lets keep it up MD :D
