Executive Councils
.
|
I am a member of Phi Sigma Sigma. Our executive council consists of all the committee heads. Currently in my chapter the committees are Philanthropy, Fundraisng, Alumnae, Health Wellness, Diversity/Risk Management, Sisterhood, Social, Public Relations, and Ritual. We meet formally as an executive council every other Sunday to talk about ideas and brainstorm. The ecouncil meetings are run by our Vice President (which is me.....:) ). I know that committees vary from chapter to chapter due to chapter size and different interests, but the main one's are usually the same.
I too am interested in hearing how other chapters executive councils are made up. |
I am new to our executive council, but basically it's made up like this. President, VP Moral, VP Social, VP Mental, Secretary, Treasurer, Rush Chair, Social Chair, House Manager, Risk Management, Panhel, COB Chair, and Risk Management. I think that's about it, but I have a feeling I'm missing someone. However, next term we're changing it where the Risk Management, COB, and House Manager won't be part of Exec.
(Oh, I am VP Social btw.) If anyone has further questions just ask!) Erin |

Re: Re: Executive Councils
Be of good cheer Brooklineu, that stuff is not really secret or confidential although I can understand why people might believe so. All your organizations are incorporated non-profit groups which means thta your constitution/by-laws/rules (or CBR), operating procedures, financial status etc are actually public record.
Your Ritual is secret. Also, if you reread your CBR you'll find that there is no explanation of the secret things within your various groups. Or there shouldn't be :). Also, a lot of leadership manuals are pretty much just copies of popular leadership doctrine and some have even been written by third parties. How secret is that? And, just to kick the dead horse two or three more times (I didn't actually kill the horse so all of my beloved animal rights people here on GC can rest easy :)) IF i gave you copies of my operational manuals you might know that we have a position called GMC (Grand Master of Ceremonies) which corresponds to a VP of membership, what he does, but not what his Ritual significance might be. To sum it all up, Share away, because there have already been posts going into detail about exec boards from way back. Quote:

alpha gam has a president, vp member development, vp scholarship, vp operations, vp finance, vp campus relations, vp recruitment, and a property coordinator.

Delta Phi Epsilon has a Leadership Team, formerly Executive Board. They are made up of President, VP Membership Development, VP Operations, VP Recruitment, VP Academic Affairs, VP House Management and Member At Large.
|
My chapter has President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, New Member Educator (Phi Director), Recruitment Director, Scholarship Director, and Panhellenic Representative. Other committee chairs are not considered members of the executive council, but they are supervised by the VP.
|
brooklineu: That sounds pretty good to me!
Kappa Delta: President, VP-New Member Education, VP-Membership, VP-Standards, VP-Public Relations, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, and Panhellenic Representatives I don't think National Kappa Delta considers this info confidential because it's printed underneath our names composites. |
Theta Chi: Pres. VP., Sec, Tres, Marshal. Marshal is in charge of new member/pledge education.
|
Since my Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter was very small, we had an exec council rather than the standard chapter council, which normally consists of all elected officers and chairs in a chapter. Exec council was Pres, VP-Organization, VP-Standards, Treasurer, and one more that I can't remember (hey it was a while ago :) ).

If it's all public record, that is fine. Obviously I don't need to volunteer any information then, because it is already available somewhere else. |
Our ex. board is :prsident, vp. membership educatio, vp special projects, secretary (who is corresponding and recording), treasurer, historian and parlimentarian (me!) we also have committee chair but they are in no way shape or form art of the excutive board (except where the chair s also and exec. member)

We're a brand new colony right now, so we're still working out Committee heads and all that, but our basic exec board right now consists of president, VP Operations, VP Sisterhood, Secretary, Treasurer, and National Liason. Our nationals only requires one VP, but we recently decided to make it a two part position. Yeah for me...I'm the new VP Sisterhood!:D
|
my local has Pres, Exec VP, VP of memership education, treasurer, asst. treasurer, secretary historial, and sargent at arms (the one that keeps order in meetings). Then we have the Panhellenic senior and junior delegates (I'm the senior). Then we have our committees: Social, Fundraising, Philanthropy, Membership and I think thats it. Panhellenic and committees aren't on exec.
|
Gamma Phi Beta's executive council should not be a secret either because the positions are listed on websites, under composites, etc.
We have: President Administrative VP Financial VP (me!) Membership VP Membership Education VP Public Relations VP Panhellenic Delegate All other positions are under one of the above positions. |
Usually, the Executive Council includes the overall Chapter Advisor and Advisors for the VPs. Chapter Council is for the collegiate EC members plus any other collegiate office.
Policies may differ into what a chapter council may do without getting official "permission" from EC. But remember, it's usually the Chapter Advisor who gets called in the middle of the night from the school, police and/or media. |
Our exec board is:
President VP-Exec VP-Standards (used to be same as VP-Exec) Formal Recruitment Director New Member Educator Secretary Treasurer Panhel Delegate Then there are various committee chairs, including informal recruitment director, fundraising, social, etc, that aren't part of exec board but may attend exec meetings if they wish. brooklineu, add Panhel rep to your exec board if you can - she acts as a liaison between the sorority and Panhel, and represents the sorority to Panhel, so she really is a leader within the chapter. (Former Panhel rep here - can you tell? ;) ) Otherwise, your officer list looks good. |
Sigma Nu was founded as a military organization so we retained the military titles for our officers. They go as follows:
Senior Officers: Commander Lt. Commander Treasurer Recorder Marshal Recruitment Chair Chaplain Then on down the list for Jr Officers (not in ranked order, my chapter has one for these folks but I don't have a copy of our Constitution handy): LEAD Chair Social Chair House Manager Risk Reduction Chair Sentinel Academic Chair Steward Reporter there are a few more, but that's most of them...
