Over Rated Movies!!

What is the most overrated movie you`ve ever seen? You know, the ones the critics rave about and most of your friends and relatives keep telling you to go check it out. Then you go see it you and just don`t understand what all the hype is about.

MY PICK: SILENCE OF THE LAMBS!! I finally saw it in 1998 after many warnings do not watch it alone and not in the dark, etc. That CHIT was more boring than anything else.

FuturePhD 12-06-2001 10:33 PM

American Beauty...it won all those awards, but I was just didn't get it.

exquizit 12-06-2001 10:34 PM

The brothers! That movie let me DOWN

PKTSU01 12-06-2001 10:41 PM

Rosemary's baby...was it supposed to be scary? Maybe it was at the time but sweet Jesus, people must have really been boring back then. Easily the WORST movie I've ever seen.

DELTAQTE 12-06-2001 10:53 PM

without a doubt

Without a doubt TITANIC!!!!

This movie made crazy money, teenage girls seeing it 6 million times, and all I could think about is "when is this damn boat gonna sink???"

I almost did a little dance when he finally froze and went in the water(that's cold, but oh well)

QTE ;)

I boycotted that MICKYFRICKY movie. I REFUUUUUSED to sit and watch a movie about a boat for 3 hours. If I want to watch a movie about people on a boat, I pop in ROOTS.

I know someone who one day was soooooo bored, he watched TITANIC three times.   There is nooooooooo way in the world I will EVER be that bored.

DELTAQTE 12-06-2001 11:18 PM

ALSO

Oh I can't forget about MISSION IMPOSSIBLE The first one made no damn sense to me!

HANNIBAL I loved SOFL, but Hannibal was NOT all that, the end part just made me laugh, eating brains? come on now, more makeup please:rolleyes:

X-FILES, THE MOVIE They said if you didn't watch the show, you would still get it....WHATEVA!

TOMB RAIDER This movie was just horrible!

FROM HELL This movie needs to go back to the place it's titled after:rolleyes:

PITCH BLACK I just wanted to see Vin Disel fine self, that's it!

PAY IT FORWARD Put in a little bit of extra PAY and get better moviescript writers.

AKA2D '91 12-06-2001 11:42 PM

I refused to see Titanic when it was released. I refused to watch it on HBO when it premiered there. HOWEVER, I did EVENTUALLY see it and it held my attention. I even shed a tear. LMAO!

BUT, I think it was OVERRATED!

Special1920 12-07-2001 12:14 AM

Hands down!

Malcolm X! Why do Spike Lee have to be in all his movies, ugh!
Just did not like it.

i agree w/you totally. i made a special trip to blockbuster to rent this movie. afterwards, i was confused, to say the least. if that movie received x number of awards, then the color purple should have received double that number.

I feel exactly the SAME way. I saw the movie last year and was so let down.

JJSP01 12-07-2001 09:28 AM

Let's see...I'd have to agree with you all on Hannibal...as much as I love Anthony Hopkins and Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal was weak. I even read the book before seeing the movie, and the book was weak too (I hated the ending).

I'd also have to say that Two Can Play That Game was wack....

Never saw Titanic and never will....I was mad that it beat Amistad for all those awards!

skywalker20_99 12-07-2001 09:30 AM

Shrek. Cute movie, but not as wonderful as everyone claimed it would be.

ClassyLady 12-07-2001 10:14 AM

HANNIBAL It was okay, but not worth the hype

AMERICAN BEAUTY It wasn't even okay, I saw it once on HBO and I will never watch it again. Not really Oscar material in my eyes.

TWO CAN PLAY THAT GAME It was just corny, like Booty Call Part 2

BABY BOY It's a crying shame when the lead actor can't act.

BELLY When I first saw it, I hated it. DMX could not act if his life depended on it. I'll watch it now, because it's funny to me.

NOWorNEVER 12-07-2001 10:28 AM

WAITING TO EXHALE

After the book, all those previews and all that hype, I was expecting a masterpiece. It just didn't do it for me.

candygirl 12-07-2001 03:29 PM

Blair Witch

This movie was so overated. I remember being upset because I didn't get the chance to see it at the movies. When I finally rented it I was so upset and dissappointed in the movie and all the people who said it was sooo good.

carolyne 12-07-2001 04:06 PM

Ladies, don't shoot me down but I loved Titanic and American Beauty.

The movies that I think were overrated are:

Blow (with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz)
Unbreakable (with Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis)
THE ENTIRE BOND SERIES
Eyes Wide Shut (with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman)

That's all I can think of now.

PrettyKitty 12-07-2001 05:51 PM

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Planet of the Apes
Shrek

D.COM 12-10-2001 05:49 AM

THE WORST MOVIE OF THE YEAR: AI!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie S-U-C-K-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2nd Place: Two Can Play That Game (simply S-T-U-P-I-D!!!!)
3rd Place: FAST AND FURIOUS (How stereotypical and predictable can a movie get???)

DSTSolo01 12-11-2001 04:44 AM

I had the terrible fortune of seeing a FEW horrid movies this year:

1) Scary Movie 2 - this was the most ridiculous and UNfunny
ish I have ever seen
2) Evolution (BOOOOOORING)
3) Jurassic Park 3 (BOOOOOOOORING)
4) Black Knight (so predictable and so corny)

Those are all I can think of right now, and by the way, I LIKED TITANIC. And Mission Impossible is my stuff!

I thought I was the only one who didn't get it. American Beauty was interesting to say the least, but not worth all the hoopla. The bad part is I actually bought the video before ever seeing it b/c I just KNEW it was a winner (I mean, it had a gazillion Oscar nominations for God's sake)...disappointed is not even the word.

ROTFL! :D Soror DELTAQTE, you ain't NEVA lied! What the HEEZY were they thinking when they made that movie?!

zetaphibeta301 12-12-2001 10:05 PM

THIS IS SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC, SORRY. I THINK THAT THE MOST OVERDONE MOVIE IS ALI. I MEAN HE SEEMS LIKE A WONDERFUL PERSON THAT DOES LOTS OF CHARITABLE THINGS. STILL HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS CAN THEY PRESENT HIS LIFE STORY?

KappaStargirl 12-12-2001 11:57 PM

Absolutely and without a doubt the most highly overrated movie I've ever seen was The Blair Witch Project.

Was it supposed to be scary? Was the ending supposed to be all mysterious. I thought it was stupid and not scary at all, plus it made me a little sick when the camera did all that jerking around.

I thought AI was OK. Long...But pretty good. Haley acted in this movie. It is hard to believe he is as young as he is.

I agree with many of you for my picks of the most overrated movies:

Unbreakable ~~ The superhero thing was just out there. And, what was up with Sam Jack's hair!!

Planet of the Apes~~Just kinda retarted

American Beauty ~~ i just didn't get why everyone said this movie was so good. It was stupid to me!

Eyes Wide Shut ~~ just boring!!

Hannibal~~Him eating the brain. NOOOOOOO!!! This movie was just pretty stupid. And I loved Silence of the Lambs...

The Brothers~~ It was OK. I am sorry, but Shemar Moore is not a comediac actor.

Waiting to Exhale ~~ They left so much out of the movie that it wasn't that good. Plus, Whitney Houston threw me off. Because of her, I still haven't seen the Preachers Wife.

DeltaGirl-BH-ASU 12-15-2001 09:06 PM

I would have to say THE BROTHERS!!! I mean that movie sucked and I still don't know what all the hype was about. I guess you had to watch it with your significant other...but I watched it one Saturday nite over a bowl of Butter Pecan Ice Cream and it was horrible.

In addition...
1 The Titantic
2. Pitch Black
3. Next Friday
4. Down to Earth ((or whatever that movie is called that stars Chris Rock and he dies and comes back as a white man!! I actually fell asleep in the movies on my brothers shoulder)).

 :(

Ok! I'm still confused over that one.

I'll have to add The MEXICAN w/my girl Julia Roberts & Brad Pitt.

Thank you thank you SO MUCH for being another person who agrees with me on this...I thought this was one of the most boring movies of all time and fell asleep both times I tried to watch it. When I tell people I didn't like it, they look at me like I said I don't like oxygen!

I also hated The Graduate. Simplistic and overstated.

thesweetestone 03-08-2002 03:37 AM

THAT'S TRUE I STILL DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND THAT MOVIE. I LOVE BRAD PITT BUT THAT MOVIE WAS STUPID!

I DIDN'T LIKE THE MOVIE "THE BEST MAN" EITHER.

I DIDN'T LIKE KINGDOM COME.

WAITING TO EXHALE WAS HORRIBLE:eek::rolleyes: :(

  Who'da thunk that a movie with so many high caliber actors and actresses could turn out to be a pile of sizzling hot mess over easy.:p

The PLOT -- there was none at all. I remember seeing the previews during the airing of the Soul Train Awards and thought OOOOO I can't wait.http://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gifhttp://www.plaudersmilies.de/jump.gif Once the movie was over, I walked out in straight http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/wtf.gif mode. That movie will neeeeeeeeeever be in my I PAID FOR THIS MOVIE COLLECTION. http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/thumbsdown.gif

txdiva 03-08-2002 07:42 AM

KINGDOM COME: Ridiculously STUPID! I was so disappointed!

HANNIBAL: SICK, SICK, SICK!

TOMB RAIDER: Wasn't all that great; actually put me to sleep

DOWN TO EARTH: Stupid as hell!

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT : I enjoyed it at the movies, but when I found out it was all a fake, I was like  ! What a letdown!

lovelyivy84 03-08-2002 11:29 AM

Lord of The Rings: Now this was a visually stunning movie BUT come on, like 10 Oscar nominations? I don't think so! It was not the movie of the century. It was not as good as the book a'tall.

On the same tip of movies based on books, Queen of The Damned was AWFUL. They ripped the guts out of Anne Rice's dark and sensual book to make a LOVE STORY. Ugh. What dreck.

I agree with all of your picks...

Kingdom Come and "The Brothers" ~~Big disappointments. So big that I refused to see "Two Can Play That Game." It looked worse.

Blair Witch I & II~~ I just really didn't like these. The second one was worse than the first.

Down To Earth ~~ JUST PLAIN STUPID. I like Chris Rock in stand-up, but he cannot act!!! I believe he is first cousins to Whitney Houston.

Monster's Ball~~ Movie was good until the end. Nothing makes me madder than a movie that is going good and the ending ruins the whole thing:mad: !

Baby Boy~~ Finally saw it. Well...I guess.

I actually liked "Two Can Play That Game" BETTER than "The Brothers". I didn't think it was a great movie, nor was it as good as say "The Best Man", but it had its moments. It was better than I'd expected (wasn't expecting much though, and maybe it helped to go with two other women).

CrimsonTide4 06-13-2002 01:40 PM

TTT

Tonight Ideal and I are going to see Monster's Ball and John Q for 50 cents each, LOL. So we will report back somewhere on GC later tonight or tomorrow.

Steeltrap 06-13-2002 01:44 PM

Gruesome

American Psycho. Disgusting movie, saw parts of it on HBO the other night, couldn't finish watching it.

neicy81 06-13-2002 01:57 PM

The Matrix

Titanic

Fell asleep in the theater on The Matrix.

carolyne 06-13-2002 02:20 PM

I finally saw "The Fast and Furious" recently and I couldn't understand the hype around the movie.

Gina1201 06-13-2002 03:13 PM

Vanilla Sky

The worst movie that I have seen is Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz. The movie made absolutely NO sense. The only satisfaction I got was the fact that I didn't pay.
