Old School slang
Okay folks, I am really about to tell my age. Remember the "old school slang" that we use to use on the playground:
1. Sike 2. Fresh 3. Dope 4. Bad (as in good) 5. The all time two favorites: Word and Def *Def Jam records put the word Def in the grave. :D |
"You be illin'..."
Girrrrrl, some of this may be regional or even just for GA folks, but we had a few others, too.
1. Bustin - same as "fresh" 2. I don't think I can spell it ---> "Uway" ---> like in the song by those two dudes talkin bout gettin "slizzard". Uway was out when I was in 4th grade, so I know that's old. 3. Hype - how can you forget? Ya know, I never thought we would get back to saying "hot" or "cool" again, but look at how we recycle everything. Because we keep recycling styles, I'm boycotting the '80s styles. No rectangle or square jewelry, no neon colors, and it there definitely will not be any side ponytails for any reason. What's up with that, especially in the videos? jojapeach |
Dibs/ no dibs
Cobs/ no cobs Man' you got me bumped |

These terms have sure brought back memories!
But what about the slang terms that have made a comeback? Like: Wack Here in New York, people are running that word into the ground! "The shoes she wore were wack!" "You're not coming to the stepshow? Man, you are wack!" "He called but I didn't want to talk to his wack a$$." "The professor gave us this wack exam last week." |

This thread is too funny!
I remember back in high school me and my friends used to say: "S.L.A.P.P" which means "Sounds Like A Personal Problem" we were so "whack":D Some other ones where "You get a 'rub' " (that is when guys would slap the back of another guys head..especially when they had a fresh haircut) "Like Whoa!" "Sippin on that Sizzurp" "As if!" |

I've heard this term before and in the context that they used it in, it meant that they were intoxicated or tipsy. I'm not sure if this completely correct so if I'm wrong someone please correct me. :) |
"slizzard" does mean to be tipsy or drunk. Here in the south we used to say, "You got me bent" (mixed up or "you don't know me)! We also used to say "M.B." or "emboosticated" (means embarrassed).
Some others: Fly Dope Tight Outtie 5000 5.0 One Love |

lmao@home slice/skillet and gimmie some skin. I sincerely forgot about those. I almost cried laughing. Here's one that is making a comeback in a ghetto way.
Old school - What's Happening? New school - Wuz Ha-na-nin? I also remember these: buggin or illin hangin on da flip hand side dats da lick word to ya mama peace, love, and hair grease outtie 5000 |
I recently read an article that said the word cool has been in use as slang since the early 1900s. I think it's here to stay.
remember: lunchin' trippin' buggin' ya'll said old school but do people around you use popped? the young folks round here use it all the time. |
We would end phrases with "...than a mug"
For example: I'm hotter than a mug I'm hungry than a mug She blacker than a mug I'm broke like a mug Salty That's ill Grimey |
