Alpha Gamma Delta closed!
I just heard from one of my sisters the the Alpha Gamma Delta chapter at Syracuse University is about to be closed. Did you know that was their Alpha chapter? Well, like they say only the strong survive.
|
It is indeed their Alpha chapter and I'm sure the entire organization is grieving.
They hope to return to the campus in 4-5 years. |

That's very sad...I hope they are able to come back strong in a few years!! As for 'only the strong survive', I hope AGD comes back kicking!!
They are a great national organization with a strong history, and they deserve a lot more respect than a comment like that gives them. EVERY GLO has good and bad years, and I find it displays a lot more strength to rise from the dust after such a situation; much more strength than it takes to coast along, making light of others' misfortunes. I hope that OrangeGirl spoke without thinking, and didn't really intend her words to sound so callous. |
The only the strong survive comment, don't worry, we will. AGD still has 178 active chapters that are very strong and doing very well. Our Alpha chapter sisters have all my strength and support. It must be very hard and I hate to let them go inactive, but I know that they will be back stronger than ever. I know on my campus 3 chapters have closed and Iwould never say it was because they weren't strong, rather than it was because sometimes negative stereotypes are perpetuated by other groups and that fuels flames that are already sparks. It is unfortunate, but I know that is what has happened at my campus. As for the women of Alpha chapter, EPSILON PI....
Love and loyalty, Sarah |
First off, are we POSITIVE that Alpha Chapter is closing? I know they were having troubles and alot of us sent them cards to inspire. If its only a rumor, I dont want us to jump ahead.
AS far as only the strong survive. Every chapter has had its hard times, whether its now or in the past. Alpha chapter will remain strong whether its active or not. Im sure the girls will continue doing things together. It takes alot of things to have a strong chapter...not just numbers. I wish the best for Alpha Chapter and also Chi (which is rumored to be leaving). LIEP to both, and all other AGD's. |
I am not an AGD member, but I did have lots of AGD buddies in college - and you could not find a friendlier, more outgoing and sweet person around! The chapter at the Univ of Tenn became inactive sometime after I graduated, but I hope they are able to open back up soon - and I hope the chapter at Syracuse does too!
|
Well, looks like rumor is truth and its a complete shock to all. :( Just check out Alpha Gam.net and an Alpha posted about it. Very unfortuate day for AGD.
|
I think it is in bad taste to open a discussion on a closed/closing chapter. If it is going to be done I think, it should be done by someone from that group, at least.
We have many other things to chat about, it is never a positive thing to close a chapter and that sort of thing can hurt feelings. |
Alpha Gams are the best! Alpha Gam will still thrive even with out Alpha, because they are some of the greatest gals in the world especially the ones I know. Many GLO's don't have their Alphas open for one reason or another but they do just as well. Alpha Gam is no different. Keep your heads up ladys , you gals will be great no matter what and you have my full support if you need it.:D

I was very saddened to hear about Alpha's closing this morning. I had gotten up, did my morning email ritual, and I was very shocked to hear that our beloved Alpha chapter is closing. :( Since this is a very sensitive subject to many of us AGDs, I encourage my sisters to discuss it further either in the AGD forum or on the AlphaGam.net message board. Hang in there, sisters! I know that they'll be back! |

Im sorry to any AGD's who may/may not be losing their Alpha chapter. We just had out Pi Chapter re-installed at Sryracuse this semester. I know they said that the 3 Alphas there were all very strong (Alpha Phi, AGD and Gamma Phi Beta - the three NPC orgs I highlighted in a chapter newsletter this past issue!) I hope things work out and you can keep your Alpha. Our oldest chapter is Delta.
We lost our Alpha at Hunter, and our Alpha Alpha (after Hunter split and had a campus at Lehman college, we split our Alpha, and installed an Alpha Alpha in 1968. ) :( |
To all the Alpha Gams out there, I'm so sorry to hear about this! I hope your chapter will reopen. Our chapter at Syracuse closed in the late 90s, and has yet to be recolonized.
Good luck :) |
why are they closing?
|
It's a sad day when any chapter closes. You have my sympathy.
|
I am so sorry to hear this...
A few points...
1. My collegiate chapter was closed about five years after I graduated. I know how it hurts to see your chapter closed. I can only imagine how the current actives must be feeling. It goes without saying that to Alpha Gam's Alpha chapter members this is a devastating event. The hearts of any Syracuse University Alpha Gams (and Alpha Gams in general) will hurt when they read this thread. I know of what I speak. I have read a similar thread on GC about my (now-closed) chapter and it hurts. 2. I am sure that Alpha Gamma Delta will do all in its power to bring the Syracuse chapter back and better than ever. As a member of a Syracuse Triad* sorority I feel sad in hearing of the loss of one of our "sister" organizations. Alpha Gamma Delta is a great group, filled with wonderful women and I am sure they'll be back on top at Syracuse in no time. Sometimes a re-group and re-organization, no matter how painful, is for the best. I know Alpha Gamma Delta would not close this chapter without great thought and consideration, and a plan for the future. 3. I support the right to post what you like. But why couldn't this have been done in a tasteful manner? The "only the strong survive" comment was, indeed, very nasty and inappropriate. I'd like to ask people to please consider the feelings of the readers before you post. Convey your information, but don't do so in a manner that will hurt others. Re-read your posts and ask yourself: "How would I feel if this were my fraternity/sorority?" It hurts to see information--sometimes faulty information--about your beloved sorority exposed to public comment (and, sometimes, ridicule). * Note to those who don't know: The Syracuse Triad is composed of the three International sororities founded at Syracuse University: Alpha Phi (1872), Gamma Phi Beta (1874), and Alpha Gamma Delta (1904). |
YES we are closing, I'm a current Alpha
Yes the alpha chapter is closing. We were told that that sunday's meeting with Suzzane Spicer (intrna'l pres), Nancy Knickerbocker( vp extension) were coming to discuss our upcoming formal recrutiment in the spring. This was the LAST thing on our minds. We are all devestated. Most of our alumnea are taking some sort of action, we have received lots of support. WE are closing due to low membership, we were pu on a new program for chapter membership. It is ideally a 3 year program but we were told most chapter are on it for longer. We were given this title in August, we were give 1/6 of the time of the "ideal" to get stuff done. WE were not given a chance. WE were given up on. WE (sisters) never gave up. And we still will not. If you can please write a letter, email or call headquaters. We appreciate all the support we can get.

I'm very sorry to hear about AGD's Alpha chapter closing. Good luck with the efforts to re-colonize. The Syracuse Triad will always live on no matter what.

The online Alpha Gams were here for us Chi Omegas, and I'm sure I can speak on behalf of all Chi Omegas that we'll be there for you too!
With sisterly love, Hootie |
this both sucks and blows.
To the AGD's at Syracuse, and to all AGD's everywhere, you have my deepest sympathy and concern.
Our Alpha Alpha chapter (one of our reorganizational chapters, comparable to being an Alpha chapter) is currently closed, and it really is depressing, so I know how you feel. I wish for all our groups that we could get through one year without seeing a chapter closed. I hope that your IHQ will change their minds and see fit to do an expansion rush, or some other action, other than shutter the Alpha chapter, especially so close to your centennial. Hang in there ladies, keep your chins up and always be proud of your sisterhood. |
To my Alpha chapter sisters and sisters everywhere: It breaks my heart to know that the chapter is closing!! Anything you need, I'll be there in a heartbeat (well, 7 hours I think it takes to get me there ;) ) I love all of you and our LIEP will keep us united!! While is wonderful to have the conection to our history as to have our Alpha, I think that we are SO STRONG that we will move on from this, re-colonize and come back bigger and better than ever before!!! Let the love of our founders keep our hopes high and our spirits strong!!

Alpha Chapter
Eric Conrad on the TKE discussion board has a great thread about when one chapter, no matter the organization closes, it affects all that campus's Greek organizations. After all, if the "lowest' fold, the top ones are closer to the ground.
My heart and prayers go out to Alpha Chapter. I can only guess what a blow it was to expect IHQ to talk about Rush and then to bel told you are going to close very soon. :( |
a truly sad day for Alpha Gams everywhere
beth14g ... please check for a PM that I'll be sending to you.
As some of you may remember, I had the pleasure of visiting the Alpha chapter back during my trip back in February when Suzanne and Nancy were there as well. I can sincerely say that everyone of the sisters I met were super nice!! :) I know how much Emily & the rest of the chapter cared about AGD and carrying on the proud Alpha tradition. I echo the sentiments that many of our sisters have already shared - our Alpha sisters are in hearts. Know that we are thinking about you & wishing you nothing but the best. You are and always will be our AGD sisters ... remember that Alpha Gam is the sisterhood that never ends - you need us & we'll be here. Loyally in EP, Jen Delta Zeta '97 |
Why won't it let me delete it?
|
Because you would have to delete the entire thread...only moderators can do that. If you want to "edit" what you said...do that..otherwise if you want to clarify, just reply back.
