Ladies, In you opinion

Before anyone goes any further, I did a search and this specific topic did not come up. Somme people touched on it during other posts but not directly. So...

What is your favorite/best working shampoo and why?

crazyleggedsigma 12-05-2001 11:30 AM

Ha!

Funny, Karen, I was just thinking about all the haircare threads that were active over the summer.

I'm a cheapo girl, so I never buy salon shampoo. Just the way I am-I figure that it is all 99.8% the same stuff anyway, and I'd rather save my money.

My current favorite is TreSemme's Hydrology for Dry & Damaged hair. Talk about silky! My hair had gotten nasty and dry as a result of some botched highlights (don't ask me how it happened-the same place I've gone for highlights since Sophomore year in HS!), and this has returned it to its natural, fluffysoft state. I highly reccommend it to anyone.

IowaHawkeye 12-05-2001 11:44 AM

I can tell the difference between my hair if I use salon stuff and drugstore stuff - so I stick to my salon formulas.

I love love love Biolage!! I think its the greatest thing in haircare, lol :D
I use Biolage Hydrating Shampoo - I getmy hair highlighted and I use a blowdryer so it restores the loss moisture in my hair and totally leaves it healthier.

For conditioner I use the Conditioning balm - they smell great - and it leaves my hair super soft and shiny :)

If you need a deep conditioner - I totally suggest the HydroActive Hair Masque - leave it on for 10 minutes once a week and your hair will be transformed - I swear!

DGPhoney 12-05-2001 11:48 AM

hmm shampoos
well I love although it 's really really cheap, lol, Suave's Strawberry aroma one, it smells soooooo good. Also their orange one is tne bomb too. My expensive stuff or rather salon stuff is Motions anything is great, hair is always shinny and smooth. Sometimes optimum but very rarely, cause I dunno, it works well was just never found of it.Also pantene, is good I think too
DGPhoney~

volgirl2376 12-05-2001 11:54 AM

Well...I must say, when I shampoo my hair, I use two different shampoos. My hair is naturally curly, but must be weird because I cant use anything with conditioner in it - or else it looks like I poured crisco oil all over my hair.
So for the first wash I use head & shoulders "refresh" - I am all about the tingle it gives my scalp :)
For the second wash I used Paul Mitchell. I never never use pantene anymore because it makes my hair fall out (no lie!)

AlphaGam1019 12-05-2001 12:21 PM

Neutrogena - Clean Balance

I love it cause it washes out very clean and also it's scent!!

:0)

ladybug1116 12-05-2001 12:33 PM

Biologe products just like IowaHawkeye....the shampoo and conditioner are wonderful :)

BrownEyedGirl 12-05-2001 12:40 PM

I really am ALL about fragrance! I buy salon shampoo occasionally, but mostly I like to rotate shampoos and experiment. My hair looks just as shiny using Suave as it does using anything my stylist gives me!

I LOVE Tresemme for the fragrance and BIG bottles (I go through shampoo like you wouldn't believe!!)

I also like Clairol Daily Defense.

ilovemyglo 12-05-2001 01:30 PM

I use the daily defense too, but normally I use Scruples O2 line.. it smells awesome and can be used as a body wash too!! I also like Bed Head's Mega Vitamin... it smells like oranges or tangerines or something.. yummy! And I have curly/dry hair so I have to have conditioner. Oh..... as for other hair care products, try Potion #9 by Sebastian... i put it my hair and it immediately softens it, and it can be used by fine hair all the way up to thick hair. 1/2 my sisters and I use it and we all swear by it. No frizzies! and it detangles.

alphachiohmy 12-05-2001 01:34 PM

Biolage - Me three!

I have absolutely loved the Biolage shampoo and conditioner I began using this semester. It was only $10 a bottle; but it lasts so long and I can tell the difference between drug store shampoos and what I now use.

valkyrie 12-05-2001 01:36 PM

I'll use just about anything, as long as it's not tested on animals and contains no animal ingredients. Right now, I use Nature's Gate Original Herbal Shampoo, and it smells SO yummy and makes my hair feel nice and soft. I love Paul Mitchell stuff as well -- The Detangler is AWESOME!

Ideal08 12-05-2001 01:47 PM

I know this is going to sound like a commercial...

Now, I use Motions brand EVERYTHING!! But before, I used Suave Strawberry shampoo and conditioner. It is the cheapest, but let me tell you, my hair had SO much body, and always looked SO healthy!!! It's not the best for damaged hair, I don't think, so after a rather unpleasant experience, I've started using my salon brand, Motions.

Are we doing conditioners, too? Mane & Tail is AWESOME!!! I used to think, they use it on horses, I'm not using that mess!! But it really is a good conditioner, and it's leave in! :)

xok85xo 12-05-2001 02:15 PM

another biolage user here :)..Really is worth the price..

juniorgrrl 12-05-2001 02:15 PM

I use Herbal Essences for color treated hair. It does a good enough job. I've never used anything that's made me say "wow' one way or the other, so I just stick with the Herbal Essences

SparkliiQTMTSU 12-05-2001 03:27 PM

Biolage is definitly worth the price!! I have a special formula that my stylist*if thats what you wanna call her* gives me b/c I have such fine hair that it's always falling flat and I need a good shampoo and conditioner so that It will hold a curl and stuff and Biolage has definitly worked wonders on my hair!!

Nichole

justamom 12-05-2001 03:29 PM

I buy what is on SALE at the time. Treseme' (sp) is good, so is Suave. The trick for me is to alternate every 3rd or 4th shampoo.
When my hair gets a tad dry I use Pantene-even tough the rumor is it has wax in it. I can't use clarifying shampoo-too drying.

PKTSU01 12-05-2001 03:38 PM

Guys use shampoo too ya know!!! Reverse sexism at its finest!;)

KarenC725 12-05-2001 03:44 PM

I am so sorry that I was insensitive to my male counterparts ;) Please enlighten me on your preference

;) hmmph!
Keep in mind, most guys don't realize that girls dig guys with good hair, most guys could give a F*%( less! I used to have longer hair and I had two separate girls get pissed at me cause my hair was better than theirs. Butm they were hot, so I stopped teasing them about it! Tresemme Balsam and Protein Herbal shampoo and Pantene Pro-V conditioner, i like that thermasilk stuff too.:p

Steeltrap 12-05-2001 03:55 PM

I've used Redken for years, but these days I'm into Phytologie, a French line. My sister has been a cosmetologist since 1974 or 1975, so I get stuff at half-price. ;)

Right now, I'm using Phytologie's Phytocitrus, because my hair is relaxed AND colored. I also use Phytocypres, because I have a very sensitive scalp that needs exfoliation.

Good topic.:)

AOPiLaLa 12-05-2001 04:14 PM

I am LOVING Sheer Blonde shampoo and conditioner right now. My hair has blonde highlights and this really works to make them brighter. I also love Clinique Shampoo--it smells yummy--like mints

KappaStargirl 12-05-2001 04:58 PM

From a beauty junkie-

I was blessed with perfect hair (naturally light blonde, perfectly straight yet holds curl, and thick). I have terrible acne, but God took pity on me or something. I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo. If I need a clarifier I like Bath and Body Works peppermint shampoo. Conditioner: John Frieda Sheer Blonde I also use Johnson's Baby wash and Baby Bedtime Bath. If anyone ever walked into my bathroom, they'd start looking for the infant.

LeslieAGD 12-05-2001 05:56 PM

maybe I need to try this Biolage stuff!!!

I switch shampoos but usually alternate between Suave Chamomile and Clinique Daily Shampoo. Every once in a while I buy this Origins Orange shampoo that really gets all the oil and junk out of your hair.

Hootie 12-05-2001 06:02 PM

Cute Topic.... ;)

My favorite Shampoo is Biolage. I love it because I don't feel like I need to use a Conditioner after using it.

Some other favorites include...
Bed Head Controll Freak
Rusk Calm
Suave Herbal

LexiKD 12-05-2001 06:53 PM

Head Games...my favorite or Fat Cat, I need volume! My little works at a salon so I get the hook up, if you will!

Tom Earp 12-05-2001 07:00 PM

DA

SAUVE is cheap and runs on sale! My hair dresser said it was as good as all of the rest!

His name is Pat, 6'7 and rides a Harley! Am I Tuff or what!:D

Beef 12-05-2001 07:02 PM

I dont have any hair, but if I did, I would just use whatever my mom bought:D

I have heard that rumor too - the reason Pantene and other drug store brands make your hair so smooth or claim to "fix split ends" is becuase they coat your hair with wax making it look smooth - all an illusion!

newbie 12-05-2001 08:58 PM

Well, with all the rave reviews about Biolage, I guess that's the next thing I will try! :)

My personal favorites that have revived my hair from the dead (my hair has been colored over 30 times...eek):

-Redken All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner (smells wonderful too...and my hair actually is super-soft with this)

-Alterna Hemp Seed Shampoo and Conditioner for Damaged hair (expensive, yes, but it works like no other!!)

-Joico K-Pak Protect and Shine Serum (smooths out my thick, sometimes frizzy hair...makes it silky)

-Joico Resolve for when I go swimming

Ideal08, I heard that that's really good, too! Portia de Rossi (sp?) of Ally McBeal (and is also a Loreal Hair spokeswoman) swears by it and she introduced it to Lucy Liu and Calista Flockhart, too.

aephi alum 12-05-2001 11:43 PM

I use Aveda. I moved to my current neighborhood a few months ago, and there's an Aveda hair salon right up the street. I needed a haircut, so I tried them and liked the results! :)

The shampoo, conditioner, and other hair products are a bit pricey, but you only need to use a little each time you wash, and their products are all natural, no animal testing or anything like that.

The only problem is that, in summer, I sometimes end up with a swarm of bees around my head... :(

HeidiHo 12-06-2001 12:48 AM

I love the Bed Head line of products. I have to orange stuff now, and got the "dumb blonde" shampoo when I got my hair highlighted this afternoon. I'll let you know how that works. It was funny the other day, one of my housemates was like "I love going in the bathromm after you take a shower, it smells so good" I guess I keeps my hair pretty healthy b/c in spite of coloring my hair it's still in pretty great condition. I also used the leave in conditioner when I was in Florida over the summer & my hair was all crispy-like, and it fixed me right up.
About the Mane 'N Tail stuff, omg. I got that b/c I heard it it makes hair grow really fast but it makes my hair look like a greasey mess after about 12 hours. Heaven forbid you use an products on it as well, then you have to shower every 6 hours to keep it looking clean. I wasn't pleased but I'm glad it works for you guys.
When I modeled, the one thing I had to promise to do was to quit using Pantene. It fades hair color, I'm guessing the wax rumors may be true and the buildup of deposits blocks the color. Everyone was wondering why my color kept getting so dull, until I told them my shampoo :o I haven't touched the stuff since.
Heidi

SigkapAlumWSU 12-06-2001 03:33 AM

I'm all about the cheap stuff! Suave, White Rain and VO5 are my choices. I used to not use Suave because it stiprred my hair, but I stayed at a friend's house, and that's all she had, and this time, it made my hair feel great.

I personally love either strawbery or the coconut one! I don't waste my money on the expensive ones because if you look at the ingreidents, it's essentially the same. Besides, I don't have that kind of money!

aggieAXO 12-06-2001 04:32 AM

I use Matrix (great conditioner), Joico, or Biolage + I love Finesse (sp?) conditioner and mousse.

has anyone with blonde or red hair had a relaxer? I want straight hair and have tried a "straightner" twice-they just applied perm solution and I had to sit there for 2 hrs while she combedmy hair-did not work either time. So I was thinking about a relaxer but I have really thin hair strands and am afraid my hair would fall out:eek:

volgirl2376 12-06-2001 10:04 AM

HeidiHo: I noticed Pantene stripped my hair too - but did it make yours fall out? It did mine!

Also, did they change the formula or something of the Suave shampoo that smells like strawberries? Back in the day when it first came out it used to smell so rank! Ill have to check it out again!

OK, I dont know how to say this correctly...so dont bash me :)
My roomate in college was african american. And she used this amazing shampoo - and I cant remember what it is called - except it has PINK in the title and it is for african american hair.
I was out of shampoo one morning and borrowed it, and let me tell you...that shampoo was amazing! I have never ever ever had such bouncy shiny awesome blonde hair. If anyone knows the name of it please post it!

Could it be Luster's Pink? Because I am familiar with Luster's Pink Oil, but don't use it. :)

ZTAngel 12-06-2001 04:38 PM

Biolage. I will NEVER use anything else. No other shampoo has worked as well or smelled as good as Biolage.

I'm not sure if it's Luster's or not, I didn't know they made shampoo! I thought they only made the pink oil. Anyway...

Volgirl, if you are comfortable, this is what I would say do... go to a hair shop frequented by African-Americans. I'm Black, and I wouldn't know what to call them, lol. But most times, they are operated by either African-Americans or Asians. The reason I say try this type of shop is because they will have more of an "ethnic" hair selection (for lack of a better term) than would somewhere like Sally's. Anyway, walk around, up and down the ailes, sniff some stuff (lol, cuz that's just fun, lol), and look for the bottle that your roommate had. If you still remember what it looks like. And then buy a small bottle, in case you have the wrong one, you only waste a little bit of money. :)

Now, remember, most of us don't wash our hair every day, so I'm not sure if the shampoos are made "differently" because of that. Wow, this is interesting, lol. Soror Steeltrap, ask your Cosmetologist sister, lol.

Ok, now, AggieAXO, about the relaxers. If you are talking about the same type of relaxers that Black people (I would've said women, but you know we have these Al Sharpton and James Brown characters, LOL!) use, BE CAREFUL!!!! Because some of them can have some strong chemicals, and you hair WILL fall out. My suggestion, and I'm not a cosmotologist, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night (j/k, LMAO, I am giddy today, lmao)... ANYWAY... I would buy a Just For Me relaxer. Just For Me is for children's hair, so it's milder. Test a portion of your hair, in an inconspicuous place. So this way, if it falls out, you only lose a portion, and you won't be bald. :)

volgirl2376 12-06-2001 04:59 PM

Thanks for the advice :) I think she could buy it at like Wal-Mart...but next time Im out Ill look and report back...it wasnt oil, but shampoo - and it was fabulous!

Hootie 12-06-2001 10:48 PM

Has anyone ever used a hot oil like V05 or something? What does it do?
I haven't had a hair cut in a while (I'm getting one in a week). My hair is really dry (doesn't help that it's Winter) and the ends are terrible. Would something like the above help?
I've also heard a rumor that with age (not that I'm OLD) your hair will change texture sometimes. I've noticed my hair is a lot thicker than it once was...sometimes that bugs me because I miss my lovely thin flat hair....anyone know?

HOOTIE :D
